The one-day conference, which is being organised by Enterprise Ireland, is aptly themed, “Bloom for Ireland” as it will aim to harness the power of the Irish female diaspora, to contribute to continued economic growth and prosperity in Ireland. The conference will be opened by Minister for Justice, Frances Fitzgerald TD, and will be hosted by Minister for the Diaspora, Jimmy Deenihan TD. Conference delegates will hear from Rose of Tralee Maria Walsh as well as some previous Roses, many of whom have successful

he Rose of Tralee Festival, which is now in its 56th year, is a perennial favourite in the hearts and minds of the Irish diaspora, from rural fireside armchair to stateside Irish bar, every year more and more Irish people tune-in and soak-up a little bit of the beauty of Kerry and hear the stories and journeys of the 32 Roses. People travel from all over the world to be part of this great event and to soak up the atmosphere that has made it one of the worlds most loved events. It all begins on Friday with the infamous International Rose Ball, Glamour, colour, music, great food and radiant Roses are just some reasons why the 2015 International Rose Ball, the opening event at the Rose of Tralee International Festival Friday august 14th. The General Manager of the Rose of Tralee International Festival, Oliver Hurley, said: “Many of our friends - old and new - have chosen the Rose Ball as the centrepiece of their visit to the town for their own Rose gathering. This event continues to be the highlight of the year for many people and once again there will be a spectacular night of style and entertainment on show.” “We have retained the ticket price from the Rose Gathering of two years ago and everyone who attends will be in the company of this year’s 32 International Roses, 32 Escorts, RTÉ Selection Host Dáithí Ó Sé, his RTÉ colleague Mary Kennedy and many more well-known people,” said Oliver Hurley. The magnificent band Brass & Co will entertain the guests with a fabulous mix of music, while local favourite Chris Shortt will roundoff the night into the early hours of the morning with his exciting disco. Street entertainment is always a firm favourite with families and this year is no different with names such as Nathan Carter,

Hometown, Stereokicks, Hudson Taylor, Riptide Movement, Sharon Shannon and the Kilfenora Céilí Band being just a few of the acts that will all perform live at this year’s Rose of Tralee International Street Festival, there is something for all the family. ONE wristband is all that’s needed to see the above great names and others live on Denny Street during the Rose of Tralee International Festival. The main attraction this year will be a salute to Irish Designers, Irish Fashion and Irish craft to celebrate Irish Design Nationally & Internationally by the Rose of Tralee. Maria Walsh, the Rose of Tralee, will Judge the Best Dressed Lady Competition for which the winner will receive a Luxury Prize valued at €1000 sponsored by The Loop at Dublin and Cork Airports.
BLOOM FOR IRELAND This year, for the first time, the Rose of Tralee Festival will provide the perfect backdrop for the introduction of a new and important dimension; a celebration and
careers in business both in Ireland and else where. 2005 Rose of Tralee, Dr. Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin who is a Doctor of Mathematics Education, will share her worklife experience and talk about the need to encourage more women into the STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and maths). Senior female figures from the Public Sector, the mulit-national sector, the media industry and the indigenous business sectors will share their insights and provide valuable learning take-aways on such themes as leadership with authenicity, achieving business scale and how diversity drives innovation.

Kerry is genuinely, I believe, one of the most beautiful places in the world that it would be a shame to come here and not travel around and to witness it. So have fun, travel around, take it easy and enjoy this beautiful county

So lots to see and do for the entire festival but as always the Rose of Tralee would not be the success it is without its roses, so we catch up with reigning Rose Maria Walsh and Kerry Rose Julette Culloty to tell us how plans are progressing.. Julette tells us of her excitement and longing for what she thinks will be the week of a lifetime with memories and friendships created forever. So how have the last few weeks been for you since becoming Kerry Rose? The last few weeks have flown by, I can’t believe the festival time is almost here, I have been so busy with rose duties. It has been incredible; I got the opportunity to take part in so many fun events... From taking part in the 4th of July parade in Killarney, to judging in a strictly come dancing competition, visiting schools and local events... It is just such an amazing experience. Are you looking forward to your week? I am so excited, I cannot wait for the festival to kick off and to go on tour with the other roses and to finally arrive into Tralee, and it’s going to be magical. I still have a lot of organising and preparing to do for the festivities but thankfully it has all started to fall into place. What advice would you like to give the girls and their families travelling here to
Maria reflects on what she calls a very memorable journey and we are delighted to share this with our readers. Maria you have had a whirlwind of a year, can you tell us some of the memorable parts of it? To answer this question I must share and reminisce with your readers the start of this memorable journey. August 19th last year the greatest unexpected expectation happened in my life. Philadelphia was shouted out in front of two and half thousand people in the glitzy Dome, with over a million people watching at home. My life as I knew it – changed. As a Rose, regardless of being International Rose or one of my sixty nine Rose sisters from the 2014 class, we are all given a podium to share our stories and our chapters and how proud we are of being an Irish woman within society. For me I had two agendas over the past twelve months. First to highlight and showcase that this great Festival is a twelve month ambassador role and not just the two nights we see on television. By achieving this goal I felt significant time was needed to be dedicated in connecting our Rose Centres and Diaspora. The second was to ensure as much time was given to promote and empower young people. I spent a significant amount of time visiting and speaking to young people in schools and colleges across the country. Hearing a young person ask a question in front of their peers about being a pioneer, or a member of the LGBT community or a lover of fashion are some of my most memorable memories. Seeing Irish organizations work here and aboard also carried memorable weight for me. I was fortunate this year to support hard working Irish organizations abroad. I travelled to Kolkata, India with the Hope Foundation, South Africa with Mellon Educate, Chernobyl with Adi Roche and Chernobyl Children International as well as Tanzania with Development Perspectives. All amazing and empowering journeys for me. The Festival is a celebration of people. It was developed by friends sitting around a table discussing how they could enhance their community. I love meeting people, sharing and hearing great stories. I have been fortunate this year allowed me to create memories with people.
Do you think the Rose of Tralee is as recognized around Ireland and Kerry in particular as it is around the world? Do we in Kerry take it for granted? Yes, I believe the Festival is as recognized around Ireland and Kerry as it is around the world. In January we spent two weeks visiting the thirty two counties in Ireland and connecting with our Rose Centres. In recent times Centres have struggled at attracting woman in their communities to become involved in the Festival. But I believe that is changing. Tradition and culture is an integral part of our society and the Festival is the heart of this. Right across the world there is seventy centres that celebrate the Irish women within their communities. They offer a podium for us to showcase our ‘gra’ for being from Ireland and the many things we identify with. You can’t find that anywhere else in the world. Trust me – I looked!! I don’t believe people in Kerry take the International Festival for granted. I love when I meet Kerry people because I feel they appreciate and respect the Festival differently. The Festival was born in Kerry and with the Festival attracting over 200,000 people each year, Kerry people understand how important it is to their community. Even though I may fight about football with Kerry people, I am honoured to represent Tralee and grateful to be able to say the Festival, Tralee town and county of Kerry offered me my greatest chapter. What advice would you give the girls participating this year? The best advice I can give to anyone, not just my fellow Roses, is to be yourself. That is often easier said than done I know, but we all offer unique voices and our stories and chapters in our lives deserve to be celebrated. And the International Rose of Tralee Festival allows us to be a part of something unique and special. I said earlier there is no other Festival or event that

Connect | Cover Story offers this much to young women between the ages of 18 to 27. There is no other event that offers families, friends and tourists all that the Festival offers. The Roses are just a part of what the Festival offers there is also the street music, Rose Buds, Escorts, volunteers, tourism and craic galore. I have heard too many times a young woman lost interest because there is belief you need to have a talent – a song or dance or poem. And you don’t! I entered the Rose of Tralee Festival when I first moved to Philadelphia in 2012. I entered to meet people and I missed the banter that only the Irish have. But I was successful. An amazing ambassador Elizabeth Spellman was selected to represent Philadelphia that year and I was so happy because she was exactly what a Rose is – humble, beautiful inside and out and had the most amazing sense of humour! Last year the Philadelphia Rose Centre asked me would I be interested in being a part of the family again. And I declined. But fortunately for me they knew better and continued to encourage me. And with “the trouble is, you think you have time” tattooed on my arm I applied. And how grateful and fortunate I am. I am proud to call myself a Philadelphian Rose, an International Rose and a member of the Rose of Tralee family.

The lifestyle magazine for Kerry I only wish I could bottle up my experience and sell it because people would spend the week in August nowhere else but in Tralee. As the year closes and this chapter of your life ends, what’s next for Maria? I wish I knew! I am so proud of my year and I am proud that I got to share how great the Festival is with the many I met. It is a bittersweet moment for me. I have been living and loving this past year as the 2014 International Rose of Tralee. But I am excited to see how the 2015 International Rose makes and creates her year for both her, her fellow Roses and Escorts. Each and every year the International Rose can make and shape the year the way she wishes. And I have enjoyed doing what I love, connecting with people and dare I say having the craic and banter as I travelled the country and world. The next steps… to be continued. I have a few projects that are in early stages so we shall wait and see but I plan on staying in Ireland for some time.

uck Fair is one of Ireland’s oldest festivals, celebrating almost 400 years of documented evidence. The first day of Puck Fair is called The Gathering Day which makes Puck Fair the original and oldest Gathering Festival in Ireland. his month’s Connect Recommends Muscle Therapy, Muscle Therapy is based in the Scotia Clinic Rooms at Killerisk Tralee and while they specialise in maternity fertility and post-partum massage treatments, they also do fantastic deep tissue and muscle massages, so after a busy day at work I can honestly say there is no better way to unwind then with a deep tissue massage with Alex. Her friendly smile, gentle manner and patience made me feel welcome and at ease. After a thorough consultation and treatment plan prepared. I found her treatment room very warm and cosy and the music really allowed me to relax and unwind.
I like a deep massage and soon switched off while Alex worked on endless knots in my shoulders and neck. During the massage she had asked was the pressure ok, it was just perfect. I have to say that her technique is superb. After much time on my shoulders and neck I felt such relief then it was to my glutes and legs. Thankfully I had less knots here and again Alex used her magic hands for a full 90 minutes front and back. I was so relaxed by the time she got my toes I was in another world of rest and relaxation not wanting it to end.
Alex is exceptional at what she does and I’ve never experienced a treatment like this before. Her unique technique keeps bringing me back. This is definitely a treatment that should not be missed. A great way to get the blood flowing and to unwind definitely worth a trip and great value.
After my treatment Alex left me to chill out for as long as I felt necessary myself. She then explained her aftercare tips on how to benefit further from the treatment over the next few days. She also advised on the importance of drinking lots of water post treatment to get the most from the treatment,

Mind Those Wisdom Teeth! By Dr. Marcas Mac Domhnaill Fáilte romhaibh thar nais! Now that Lughnasa is upon us, we are determined to enjoy the remainder of the Summer holiday season. For students, the different festivals during August, signal that school terms will soon start again. While parents plan for the academic year with purchases of books and uniforms for their children, dentists as health professionals, have a duty to help parents plan for their children’s dental health. This is especially important when they are planning to leave home for the first time, whether to further their education or to go to work. For young adults living away from home for the first time, dental and oral health may not be at the top of their agenda. They all like to have an attractive smile but they often don’t give back teeth much care. However, this age group have a common dental complaint, namely wisdom teeth. The wisdom teeth usually grow into the mouth between the ages of 18 and 25, but they can often erupt much later in life. They are the last teeth to grow into the mouth and are in each corner of the mouth, upper right, upper left, lower left and lower right. Some people do not have all their wisdom teeth. This is because they either remain buried in the jaw bones or that they are absent completely. It is not unusual for people to have only two or three of their wisdom teeth. A panoramic radiograph can easily be taken to show all the teeth in the jaws, if there is any doubt as to their presence. If wisdom teeth remain buried in the jaw, they can be left in place unless they cause a problem. They would certainly be removed if cysts started to grow around them. One should get buried wisdom teeth screened by a radiograph every few years, to be sure that they remain healthy. It is unusual for cysts to be detected by the patient, as they are painless. However, they can destroy much of the jawbone around a tooth if they are left unchecked. In extreme cases, this could lead to a thinning of the jaw and possible jaw fracture. Infection around wisdom teeth is very common. It may be a full dental abscess or it may be a superficial gum infection (pericoronitis). Both of these are very painful and pericoronitis is often repetitive. In these cases, removal is usually the only remedy. Many wisdom teeth are removed in general dental practice, while some would need referral to an oral surgeon for removal. This would be the case if the tooth was deeply buried in the jaw, if it was severely tilted (impacted) in the jaw or if it overlapped nerves or sinuses in the jaws. Oral surgeons usually do these extractions as day cases and they can be done with local anaesthetic with or without sedation. Being put to sleep (general anaesthetic) is also sometimes used. Finally, keeping the mouth clean is important for all age groups but especially for young adults. If it is difficult to clean around wisdom teeth, perhaps a disinfectant mouthwash could be used. Many chemists sell water jet devices to help clean these difficult areas. Encourage any young adults in your family to take their oral health seriously. Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí! While unprotected sex can lead to sexually transmitted infections (STIs) at any time, people seem to let their guard down more easily on holidays. STI clinics in the UK regularly report an increase in STIs during the summer months. Alcohol, the feeling of freedom, recreational drugs etc. and people can get into situations that they would never consider at home. Even when using condoms people may be unaware that condoms are less effective when exposed to certain body oils/lotions and extreme heat. A bout of severe vomiting and diarrhoea on holidays can interfere with the Pill and increase the possibility of pregnancy But I feel perfectly fine! Not everyone who has been exposed to an STI has symptoms of infection. Approximately half of men with Chlamydia infection, a very common STI, have no symptoms and three quarters of women may have no symptoms while harbouring infection. Yet long term problems such as infertility, pelvic pain can still occur. If you could possibly have been exposed to an STI it is very worthwhile attending a specialist clinic as soon as possible. Left untreated you can develop long term
problems or, unknowingly, pass the infection on the future sexual partners. Usual Symptoms of an STI • Discharge from the vagina or penis • Pain on urination • Aching in the pelvic area or scrotum • Painful blisters in the genitals can suggest Herpes infection • Painless blisters occur in the first stages of syphilis • Bleeding between periods or after sex Types of STIs CHLAMYDIA, Trichomonas and Gonorrhoea are bacteria that are passed on through unprotected sex/ sex toys. A special swab or urine test performed by a healthcare professional specialist in STIs can make the diagnosis. At a clinic specialising in STI care an immediate diagnosis can be made by looking under a microscope. The treatment involves antibiotics for you and any sexual partner. We advise no sexual activity until a “test of cure” is performed to ensure the infection is gone. HERPES can be picked up by skin to skin contact with someone who has blisters at the time of sexual activity. These can be very painful and flu like illness can also be present. The virus can remain dormant in your system and flare up from time to time in the future. A diagnosis is made by taking a swab from the blisters. Condoms do not protect you from contracting herpes. Pain relief, local anaesthetic creams may help. If diagnosed early
medications called anti-virals may help to shorten the attack but not to cure it. PUBIC LICE are picked up from skin contact rather than “full sex” and may present with itching or seeing lice-it can take a couple of weeks after contact for symptoms to show up. Condoms do not protect. Treatment involves a cream and scrupulous disinfecting bedding/clothing/ towels etc. SYPHILIS is no longer a disease of the past. Figures show an increase. It can be silent presenting with painless ulcers which can be missed. If it is not treated in the early stages it can go on to because serious damage to the heart, brain and eyes. It can be life-threatening and can affect babies in the womb in a future pregnancy. Syphilis is diagnosed by a blood test and is easily treated with specific antibiotics. HIV is passed through sex or sharing needles/coming in contact with body fluids of an infected person. It is diagnosed on a blood test. If you are away with friends watch out for each other. If you could be at risk of an STI get checked out! The HSE runs a STI Clinic at Kerry General Hospital-0214966844. Some GPs in Kerry have specialist training in STIs

HELLO AGAIN EVERYONE, WELL WE ARE COMING TO THE END OF THE SUMMER AND WE HAVE ONE LAST MAJOR FESTIVAL, THE ROSE OF TRALEE TO LOOK FORWARD TO BEFORE THE KIDS HEAD BACK TO SCHOOL. THIS MONTH I WOULD LIKE TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT THE DIVERSITY OF OUTFITS YOU MAY NEED ATTENDING ALL THE DIFFERENT EVENTS DURING THE FESTIVAL.
As it’s a family themed time, we’ll start with some places you may be going with the kids. Ideally you will want to be comfortable, stylish and casual and a pair of cut offs, top and cropped jacket plus comfortable shoes may be just the thing when you are on top of the big wheel, at the circus or dancing in the square! Remember to think of pockets in your trousers or jackets as you may need to keep both hands free. If you are bringing a bag pop in a pashmina or scarf as you can use this as a layer if the evening turns cold. There will be plenty of opportunities to dress up and if you are going to see some of your favourite artists perform you will need to aim for smart casual, so a nice trousers or skirt and top would be just the job, again remember comfortable shoes as you may need to queue to get in. Let’s move onto one of the most glamorous nights of the festival, where we all get a chance to be Cinderella and dress up for the ball, though forget it if you think of running away at the stroke of midnight, as things are only getting started! It is a black tie event and for ladies anything goes, from beautiful full length evening dresses to shorter cocktail dresses or a well cut trousers, either slim or flowing and fabulous top. As long as there is some room for the food and champagne to go down and you are able to hit the dance floor then you will be fine. I cannot talk about fashion and the rose of Tralee and not discuss the fashion show on the Sunday night. I can honestly say the fashion on display is outstanding and I am not just talking about the catwalk. As this is the only event during the festival to have a best dressed lady award it really is a time to be creative and even a bit quirky if you so desire and you never know you may even come home with the wonderful prize. Finally, the beautiful roses will not be getting all the attention on the selection nights and if you are attending on either or even both nights, you never know when or where the cameras may zoom in so make sure you are dressed to impress. Renault’s new Kadjar will be reaching Irish shores in September but Suzanne Keane travelled to the Navarra Desert in Spain to test it out at the international launch: Renault will be launching the Kadjar (pronounced Kaj-Arr) later on this year as a rival to the Qashqai – despite it being built on the same platform. The Kadjar has been designed by Laurens Van Den Acker who came from Mazda and has been responsible for the creation of Renault’s new brand image across the range including the Clio and Captur. The Kadjar will be available in both 2 and 4 wheel drive with 3 engine options. The base engine is a 1.2L 130bhp Petrol Turbo engine and there will be 2 diesel options – a 1.5L 110bhp and a 1.6L 130bhp
specifically designed for use with the 4 wheel drive version. On the outside the Kadjar is sporty with robust lines along the body and sharp bonnet creases. Strong shoulders lead towards the rear where 3D effect taillights set off the back end. Inside the cabin it’s spacious and the finish overall is premium. Horizontal lines emphasis the width and the widened centre console is finished with a grab handle for the passenger – a hint at the Kadjar’s off-roading ability. The boot will hold almost 530 litres and with the passenger seat folded down it can carry loads up to 2.6m long. This month I want to talk about shoes. They really can make or break an outfit. A big trend that will come through to autumn/winter are slip on trainers like Vans with suits and tuxedos. They were shown in a number of men’s fashion shows for the big design houses. I personally love this trend, it’s a great way to add a pop of colour to what is essentially a black and white outfit. Another shoe trend that has to be discussed is brown shoes. Every couple of years they resurface as a big trend. I’m personally not a fan. That’s not to say they don’t have a place. Look for browns with a hint of burgundy; they will live on a lot longer in your wardrobe when the trend disappears again. A good alternative to the brown trend are navy and red accessories. Some won’t wear navy and black, personally I like it much more than brown and black together.

KID LUNCH BOX IDEAS WITH MARK DOE The key to healthy lunch boxes for kids is variety. It can be hard to get children to try new foods, but with a little patience and time, you can get there. People often belive because my kids have a chef as a Dad they will eat anything, well guess what they don’t. I have found with my own children, that they started to get bored with the same foods at a certain age, and wanted to try new foods. Wraps make a great alternative to the boring old sandwich, and using wholemeal wraps is even better. Make the wraps the evening before and store in the fridge. This recipe for ham, cheese and tomato wraps is great. You can try other fillings as well, such as tuna, red onion and sweet corn or try cooking some chicken fillet and binding with a little mayonnaise, diced tomato, cooked bacon and grated cheese.

Fresh fruit is great for lunch boxes. Avoid sports drinks or sugar ladened drinks, small bottles of water with a little cordial are a better alternative. Fruit on a stick a great way to put some fun into eating fruit. Use looly pop sticks rather than skewers with pointy ends. Try something different such as wedges of melon or small bunches of grapes. Also for a school snack, try crisp vegetable sticks (carrot, celery, cucumber etc...) with a yogurt dip. Make the dip with natural yogurt, a little crushed garlic and honey. Salads are great during the summer months. Lettuce leaves, grated carrot, cherry tomatoes and thinly sliced cooked chicken breast is very tasty. Children are much more likely to eat prepared food, that takes little effort, so pop pealed Clementine (protected with clingfilm), or chopped raw vegetables wrapped in damp kitchen paper, into their lunches. Make the food in your child’s lunchbox look so attractive that other

Rightly or Wrongly Ireland guaranteed the Irish banks to prevent a banking collapse. Greece is now in a financial straight jacket, as without a banking system, its economy is coming to a standstill. It raises the question, is having a banking system more important than having sovereignty!
Are We Irish or European
We are Irish and while we may sympathize with Greece, it probably doesn’t mean we want to pay more taxes to help.
Should I Holiday in Greece
Helen in our office has just returned from Greece and has holidayed there for the last ten years. The sun still shines, the beaches are fabulous, the drink flowed, and the rest is censored. She is already planning next year which is the best way to support Greece!
The future
I have huge sympathy for the people of Greece and while Ireland has turned a corner, we remain very close to the edge. If our economic growth stalls, will we return to austerity or be saved by our European partners …

TWITTER FOR BEGINNERS Many small businesses now recognise the need to get involved and engage with customers on Twitter, so here’s a very quick intro on the Basics of Twitter:
REFORM OF THE INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS (AMENDMENT) ACT 2001 On the 13th May 2014 The Minister for Jobs, Enterprise, and Innovation, Richard Bruton secured Cabinet approval to reform the Industrial Relations (Amendment) Act 2001. This reform aims to improve and modernize the Irish industrial relations framework with the end goal aimed to provide clarity for employers and increased effectiveness for employees. It is expected that the new legislation will allow Trade Unions to seek pay increases for employee in situations where the employer does not recognise collective bargaining. This reform of the legislation has been inspired by recent cases which brought the need for reform of industrial relation in Ireland to the forefront of government agendas. For examples in 2007 Ryanair v The Labour Court was held in the Supreme Court. The court outlined that Ryanair regularly engaged in collective bargaining through its Employee Representation Councils. The employee councils were deemed to qualify as ‘as body all the members of which are employed by the same employer and which carries on negotiations for the fixing of wages or other conditions of employment of its own members’. There are several main provisions which are expected to be address in the legislation for example a definition of what constitutes ‘collective bargaining’ is to be established. A framework to assist the Labour Court in identifying if internal bargaining bodies are genuinely independent of the employer will be outlined. Policies and principles will be set out for the Labour Court to follow when assessing workers’ terms and conditions. The Minister noted that he was positive that legislation will be drafted in a way that complements the Irish economy and our industrial relations history. However, key concerns remain going forward in relation to the country’s ability to secure foreign investment into the economy and the growth of Irish companies which will undoubtedly be impacted upon by the reform in the industrial relations legislation. Tweeting: A Tweet is a post on Twitter, must be 140 characters or less – so keep it to the point! Images: Twitter allows you to share images in your tweets. Simply upload the photo or image you want to share in the Compose Tweet box – Don’t forget, just like Facebook, you can ‘tag’ others in the photo. @mentions: The easiest way to reach out to a fellow Twitter user is by tagging that user’s @handle in your tweet. For example mine is @real_ken_tobin This will notify the other person you’re talking about them Favorites: Similar to ‘Liking’ a post on Facebook - If you like a particular tweet but don’t want or need to respond to it, you can favorite it by clicking the star button under the tweet. Retweets: Again, similar to ‘Sharing’ a post on Facebook - Retweeting allows you to share what other Twitter users post so that your followers can see those posts as well. Direct messages: To privately interact with other Twitter users, you can direct-message people. Direct messaging is a little trickier; in most cases, the two users need to be following one another in order for one to direct message the other. Hashtags You’ve likely heard a lot about hashtags by now. Hashtags are searchable on Twitter and therefore are a great way to make the tweet you share visible to users beyond your own followers. You can create your own hashtags to draw attention to your brand or to events you may be throwing. For example mine is #SocialMediaKerry Many Twitter users add their hashtags at the ends of their tweets, but you can add hashtags anywhere you want in the text. Just make sure the hashtags you use are relevant. Trending: ‘Trending topics’ are any topics that Twitter users are talking about at a very high rate. Often, these trending topics are hashtags, but they can also be words or phrases related to the subject. Topics become trending for a few reasons - from breaking news or these topics can also come about when large groups of Twitter users work together to get a certain hashtag or phrase trending. When you click on a trending topic, it’ll take you to a search page where you can view what people are saying about the topic, along with photos and related users. Live tweeting Live tweeting is another way to get topics trending on Twitter. Essentially, live tweeting is when a user tweets their reactions to a live event as it is happening. When brands throw events and want their attendees to live tweet while they’re there, the brand will often create its own individual hashtag to use and share with the invite list so that others can follow around. Twitter chats Another way to engage followers or get a topic trending is by hosting a Twitter chat. Twitter chats are fairly straightforward, but they do require a decent and active follower base to be successful. Currently Kerry has two live Twitter Chats #KingdomBizHour and #KerryHour So what is a Twitter chat? It’s when several Twitter users get together (online) to discuss a specific topic, often around one sponsored ‘host’ business, who’s hashtag participants incorporate into each of their related tweets. Twitter chats usually last about an hour. They are a great way to get followers (and their followers) engaged and for sharing advice with other business / customers.

Dining Out Guide Occasionally Connect likes to bring you a delightful experience and recommendations that you should try, so this month we popped into The Café at Ballyseedy Garden Centre, I have to admit even though I have been many times before I have always just had a luxury coffee as its an ideal place to meet someone for a chat. This time I was on a bit of a chill out family day treating mother to lunch and looking for somewhere comfortable and spacious with a good variety on the menu. I would always have thought of it as somewhere to go for that quick coffee and a naughty sticky bun, but I was totally wrong, they have an extensive menu, from delicious breakfast dishes, a selection of hot lunches and cold salad choices. I am really looking forward to popping back to try the eggs benedict they looked divine. We found a lovely seat by the window and had a look at the menu to make our decisions, I choose the Salmon and Brie Quiche served with your own personal choice of salads, fries an optional extra if required, the quiche was tasty and moist which I like as I sometimes find Quiche to be overcooked but this was just right, while mother choose a Gourmet
Sausage and mash combination. I have to admit I was a bit worried, I had finally got to take her out to lunch and she was having sausages and mash. WOW was I surprised when the dish arrived to our table, a tower of mash nestled under the most delicious gourmet sausages I have ever tasted, topped by an onion gravy that would tantalise any taste bud, she completely finished her dish in no time, which is quiet unusual for her, both dishes were absolutely divine, and all for under 25 euro I really felt it was excellent value for money. The junior member of the party was not hungry at the time of our visit so he was treated to some lovely ice cream and strawberry sauce from the dessert counter which is so tempting it’s sinful. The atmosphere was wonderful, lots of people popping in and out for lunch snacks, coffees and drinks but at no time did one feel cluttered or as if you were obliged to get up so someone else could avail of your space, relaxed and bright with lots of space and the added advantage of the outdoor seating which people were beginning to fill into as we were leaving because the sun came out. The ambience of the place would make you really want to pop back
again. Staff were extremely friendly and accommodating and of course Bernie was on hand herself with a welcome smile and a few words for everyone which I have to say you don’t see enough of now in eateries around the county. All in all it was a wonderful experience and one that will definitely be repeated, It is definitely worth stopping off on route to where ever it is you may be heading while passing Ballyseedy Garden Centre, I know I will be making a visit more often, as there are lots of tempting dishes on the menu just waiting to be tasted.
