CONVERGENCY Textile Transdisciplinary Art and Design is a creative group of students, Faculty and Alumni of the Textile Design Master Programme of the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The main goal of the group is transdisciplinary oriented artistic research, undertaken against the context of the fusion of aesthetic and practical applications problematics, within new typologies and objects at the frontiers between the visual art, textile design and technology. Fragility, ambiguity, transgression of medias and collage of techniques and materials, inter- and transdisciplinary thinking and methods, semantic complexity are characteristics for contemporary artwork as artistic product and research activity. Characteristic for emerging research platforms, transdisciplinarity stands as the cutting edge collaborative approach in a situation where accumulation of critical mass of creative solutions emerge. In such ways art object and textile construction meet fascinating research field emerging new hybrid conceptual and operational areas. The artworks aim to create a distinctive ethos within habitation and urban activities, integrating facts such as cultural memory and expression of textiles and textile media, deconstruction processes, collage and association of materials and media, fusion of techniques and visual arts language elements. As the city of Cluj-Napoca becomes a pole of creative evolution in many disciplines, collaboration between innovative programmes such as those belonging to the Art School of Cluj and the EBS NTT Data Company, develop promising energy convergence in the perspective of future changes in the relations between aesthetics, art, design in relation to technology.
