FINANCIAL SUPPORT

FUNDING PROGRAMMES Our generous funding programmes allow us to bring the very best boys to Radley regardless of their ability to pay fees. In 1847, our founders set out their vision of a school where one in 10 boys would be educated for free. As we forge Radley’s modern history, we are even more ambitious. Our aim is that 75 boys will pay little or no fees and a further 150-200 receive support through partially-funded awards, ensuring our community welcomes families from all walks of life. Since 2015 we have been able to triple the investment from 3.6% of our annual income to over 11% with more than 140 boys now receiving support.

Eligibility If you need financial support to come to Radley, we encourage you to contact the Admissions team who will support you throughout the process: admissions@radley.org.uk. All financial awards are means-tested; a process which takes a bespoke review of your circumstances and evaluates household income and expenditure as well as assets and liabilities. As a guide, families with household incomes of less than £50,000 and limited savings will likely be eligible for an all-inclusive award. Families with household incomes of as much as £150,000 (more in some cases) could be eligible for some funding as we have generous programmes for part-funded awards.

If you are unsure whether you qualify for financial support, please use our online eligibility calculator.

THE RADLEY KEYS AWARD The Radley Keys Award celebrates boys with talent, ambition and potential. The award is intended for boys attending a state primary or secondary school in the United Kingdom who will make the most of an all-round boarding education. Our carefully curated assessment process has been specifically designed to recognise and reward potential over prior attainment. The programme is purposefully designed to remove barriers, allowing boys to focus on reaching their goals and maximising the opportunities on offer at Radley. There are two entry points: • 11+ (Year 7), in addition to the funding guaranteed in Year 6, we will help to place boys at an independent prep school (with funding) for Years 7 and 8 before joining Radley in Year 9 • 16+ (Sixth Form)

Financial means-testing will determine the exact award for each family, but significant funding is on offer. Eligible candidates can receive an all-inclusive award, equivalent to 115% of fees. We are looking for boys who are engaged and engaging, sparky, creative and resilient. We want boys who will get stuck in, make the most of every opportunity and have a positive impact on those around them. We will award up to 12 Radley Keys Awards each year: six for 11+ and six for 16+ entry.

This is not just about providing life chances to those with talent and strong character who otherwise would not come to Radley, although that in itself is reason enough. It is about creating an environment where boys inspire boys, where excellence creates excellence, where, together, we foster greatness. JOH N M O U L E, WAR DEN

Radley has completely transformed my life in many ways. The opportunities academically, musically and in sport have enabled me to discover myself on a much deeper level, and I hope to share the skills I’ve learnt with others in the future. I loved my two years in the Sixth Form at Radley, particularly all the opportunities that came from boarding. It was nervewracking at first, especially as boarding was unheard of for someone like me, but my family has enjoyed being part of the Radley community just as much as I have. THE SILK AWARD The Silk Award celebrates and rewards boys with outstanding all-round ability whose families need some support with our fees. Successful candidates will be academically strong and have a wide range of co-curricular interests and talents, be those in art, drama, design engineering, music or sport. The Silk Award is not dependent on scholarship success, but boys will be expected to make a significant contribution to Radley life. The financial award is means-tested and can range from 10% to 100% of our fees. We welcome applications for entry at 13+ (Year 9) and 16+ (Sixth Form). Unconditional and guaranteed funding offers are made following the assessment days in Year 6 and Year 11.

Their mission is simple: to make a Radley education possible for every talented boy. Radley is fortunate to have generous support that has allowed it to curate a large and well-funded financial assistance programme. TALK E D U CATION

THE WARDEN’S AWARD

08

The Warden’s Award recognises boys of truly exceptional ability who would not be able to come to Radley without some financial support. To qualify for funding, boys will need to win one (or more) of our elite scholarships: Academic, Art, Drama, Innovation, Music or Sport. The financial award attached to the scholarship is means-tested and can range from 10% to 100% of our fees. We welcome applications for 13+ (Year 9) entry from candidates with unconditional offers and also non-registered applicants. Final funding guarantees are made in Year 8 following the scholarship assessment days. Further information on our six scholarships is available on our website and in our scholarships brochure.

The Warden’s Award is an unashamed celebration of excellence. We are looking for boys with outstanding ability and potential who will make a significant contribution to the life of the College and inspire those around them to achieve greater things. The Scholarship assessment days are amongst my favourite of the year. We enjoy meeting boys who have such enthusiasm, skills and talents, and it’s exciting to see the potential of each cohort. ARMED FORCES AWARD The Armed Forced Fund provides financial support for the independent education of children of UK Service personnel, killed, wounded, or medically discharged whilst serving their country. The Award is available to boys and girls of Service men and women of all ranks. Entry to Radley for boys is possible at 11+ (with help for two years at an independent prep school), 13+ or 16+. Girls can apply at 11+, 13+ and 16+ to one of the Award’s partnership schools: Downe House, near Newbury or St Mary’s Calne in Wiltshire. Day places at both these all-girls’ schools are also available. Award holders will be selected on all-round merit following interview and assessment. Financial need will also be taken into account in line with the criteria agreed by the Bursars of the three schools. The Award is means-tested and can range from 10% to more than 100% of fees.

Seymour Shaw spent five years at Radley (2016 - 2021) on a full Armed Forces Fund award following the tragic death of his father, Lieutenant Colonel Robert Shaw, who served in the first Gulf War, Kosovo and Iraq. At the end of his time at Radley, Seymour and his mother Angela sat down with the Warden to reflect on their journey together. We hope you enjoy watching this moving insight into Seymour’s time at Radley.
