What is an intelligent PDU? With real-time remote power monitoring, environmental monitoring, and data centre infrastructure integration, an Intelligent Power Distribution Unit (iPDU) improves the efficiency of data centres. Intelligent rack PDUs provide the technology necessary for a smarter IT infrastructure, allowing you to anticipate issues before they arise. They help data centre managers in achieving their ultimate objective, which is to maintain uptime while cutting costs.

Different Rack PDU Types • •

Metered Inlet PDUs: Metered inlet PDUs show data both locally and remotely and measure power at the PDU inlet level. Metered Outlet PDUs: Metered outlet PDUs have metering at the outlet level in addition to the same functions as metered inlet PDUs. They also show data both locally and across a network. Switched PDUs with Outlet Metering: These PDUs incorporate the features of both switched PDUs and outlet-metered PDUs.

The greatest option for lowering costs, improving availability, offering energy efficiency, and managing capacity already in use is intelligent PDUs.

Non-Intelligent PDUs Power strips used in data centre environments are known as basic PDUs. To power the stacked IT equipment, they distribute voltage and current. Monitored PDUs: These PDUs give a user access to a local display that normally shows data about the electrical current. These devices are not network-connected, and remote access is not possible.

Why Use Intelligent PDUs in Today's Data Centers? Here are some clear benefits that intelligent PDUs offer: •

Increased uptime: By using user-defined thresholds to monitor power at the device or PDU level and get alerts, when possible, problems arise, and IT managers can maintain missioncritical systems operating at their best. Reduce costs and power consumption: Without spending money on on-site visits, iPDUs can monitor server performance and swiftly reboot failed systems by combining outlet-level power monitoring with trend analysis. To save energy, IT equipment that is not in use during off-hours can be shut off. Green data center: Reducing carbon footprints by offering the best possible temperature, humidity, and energy control. Managers of data centers can increase efficiency by using environmental sensors linked to intelligent PDUs. Real-time data collection: Real-time data on current (amps), voltage, power (kVA, kW), and energy usage is gathered by intelligent PDUs (kWh). To understand real-time power load,
