Acknowledgments The Boys and Girls Clubs of San Dieguito is proud to honor our “Youth of the Year” candidates, chosen from our numerous Club branches and programs, and our Volunteer of the Year, Mr. Terry Lingenfelder. Established in 1947, Youth of the Year is the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s premier recognition program for Club members. We are enthralled to celebrate tonight’s honorees, one of whom will be named our organization’s 2014 Youth of the Year, and continue this tradition for years to come.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito is dedicated to providing positive activities to develop the education, health, self-esteem, and character of youth. Tonight we celebrate and highlight our mission by honoring the outstanding candidates and Volunteer alongside their families and loved ones. Each year, our organization impacts more than 20,000 youth, especially those who need us most, throughout the San Dieguito region with our quality programs and caring, qualified staff at seven branches. Our programs foster young people’s character, personal growth, leadership qualities, health and life skills.

VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR Terry Lingenfelder The Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito is proud to present the 2014 Volunteer-of-theYear Award to long-time Solana Beach resident, Terry Lingenfelder. This award is in recognition of Terry’s outstanding leadership, dedication and tireless efforts in sustaining and expanding our mission at the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito.

He is a strong promoter, supporter and major contributor to all programs and activities that we offer. We could not have been as successful as we are without his vision, involvement and hard work for 43 years.

Lingenfelder has dedicated many years of service to the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito. His long-standing service has included involvement on the Board of Directors (since 1971), President of the Board (1979-1981 and 1999-2001), and Chairman of the Foundation Board (2012 to the present).

Furthermore, he has been instrumental in many of our financing and fundraising initiatives. He began the highly successful and longest running fundraising event, Bucks for Boys & Girls, which collectively raised over $4 million for the Club during its 41 year run. In addition, he was instrumental in securing major donors for the 2005 Share the Dream Campaign which raised over $8 million to renovate the Harper Branch and Pardee Aquatics Center in Solana Beach.

Madison Cohen

Lizette Diaz

Athletics Department

Madison Cohen has been a member of the Carmel Valley Polster Branch since 2007. She has participated in almost every athletic program we offer, both recreationally and among Big 8 Middle School Athletics. While at Carmel Valley Middle School (CVMS), Madison was elected ASB President and also served as an Adaptive P.E. aid for her peers with disabilities. In more recent years, she has served as Junior Volunteer at the Helen Woodward Center, and has also served at many San Diego area holiday food banks. Last summer, she took an 8-day medical mission to Nicaragua in hopes of helping children far less fortunate than herself. She refers to the mission trip as one of her most memorable and important experiences.

Lizette Diaz has been a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito for the past ten years. She is currently the Vice President of the Griset Branch Keystone Leadership Program.

Her dedication and enthusiasm are unmatched.

Lizette Diaz is a great role model to our youth and is always willing to lend a helping hand. She has done an exceptional job in furthering The Boys and Girls Club movement whether it be through helping to mentor younger club members, participating in beach cleanups, assisting at 6th Grade Dances, and so much more. Â Lizette is motivated and is a positive influence on others. She has always exhibited the high moral characteristics of being honest, responsible and having respect and empathy for others. Lizette is always dependable, responsible and caring.

Whenever you see her there is a kindness in her eyes and she carries a smile that can brighten up any room. She is a young lady of such obvious an exemplary charm. Her generosity and her impulse to serve are attributes that has drawn her close to all of our hearts.

In her desire to stay connected to youth athletics after playing field hockey for CVMS, she has been the middle school team’s head coach for the last two seasons. While she has been head coach, the CVMS field hockey team went to the championships her first year as head coach and achieved a 2nd place finish this year. Many who have met Madison would say, she always has a smile on her face and a kind word for every student-athlete she works with, along with being a great communicator with adults. Madison has accomplished so much her senior year.

Not only did she have an impressive 3.67 GPA at Torrey Pines High School, but she has also been nominated as both the San Diego Union-Tribune and North County Times Athlete of the Week and has just recently been offered a D1 Scholarship to play at UC Davis.

Meliza Espinoza

Meliza has been a La Colonia Branch member since the fifth grade and was one of the first teen program members. She has always shown initiative and encouraged other teens to participate in the after school program. Meliza is a hard worker and loves to help others. Anytime there is a need for a volunteer either at the La Colonia or Harper Branch, she is always one of the first to ask how she can help. During the summer she volunteers as an L.I.T (Leader in Training). She is also very involved throughout the year in mentoring younger members, as well as helping with various special events and projects at the branch.

She is very respected and loved by all the staff and teens and is a positive role model for her sisters. Despite English being her second language and the challenges she has faced because of this, she constantly demonstrates that nothing will get in her way. She works very hard in the after school program to complete her assignments, ensure they are done correctly, and turned in on time. She takes full advantage of the support available to her and is never too proud to ask for a helping hand.

Meliza will be the first in her family to graduate high school and plans to attend college. Her strong will is an inspiration to those around her and proof she will be very successful at anything she puts her energy in to.

Casey Latz is an exceptional student who has been taking music lessons and participating in bands at the Youth Arts Academy for many years. At a very young age, Casey was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, a nonprogressive movement disorder. Casey does not let her physical disabilities stop her from achieving. If a new technique needs to be developed to accommodate her, she is more than willing to try it. Her motivation to excel can be seen in the variety of activities that she participates in, especially in music.

As a drum student, Casey has honed her skills in a variety of musical styles. After having developed her basic drumming skills, she has been able to progress to and excel in one of the most difficult styles; jazz. In addition to her drumming, Casey was also able to play piano with the jazz band this year. Being a member of the YAA jazz band is a joy and passion of hers.

Casey has a great appreciation of the musicians around her.

She is always respectful of and truly happy to see her teachers and her band mates. Casey’s ebullience is truly infectious.

She is a pleasure to work with and is greatly appreciated by everyone that she works with at the Youth Arts Academy.

Anthony Lopez

Anthony is a positive and driven 8th grader from Carmel Valley Middle School. While many of his peers are trying to find a niche in their social world, Anthony has the confidence and passion to pursue his dream of working in professional basketball.

Since joining the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Dieguito at the age of 6 at the Del Mar Branch, Anthony has been an active participant. Growing up with the Boys and Girls Clubs, he learned the importance of hard work and dedication and is determined to always be a better person.

Anthony strives to make good decisions because he knows the decisions he makes today will affect his future. Anthony currently attends the Polster Branch and is loved by all the staff. He is always one of the first to volunteer and lend a helping around the Club.

Anthony is an exemplary role model for the younger members. He takes it upon himself to help younger students develop their basketball fundamentals as well as teach them the importance of sportsmanship. Anthony currently plays basketball for the Falcons Elite Club team and hopes to one-day play at the college level. He is a role model for his family and for the younger members of his Boys and Girls Clubs family. He always gives back to his community and helps others like him accomplish their goals.Â

Sherri McIntee truly exemplifies the characteristics of a Boys and Girls Club member. She has been apart of our Rancho San Dieguito Swim Team for the past seven years.

During this time period, she has risen through the groups and is now team captain of the senior championship group Sherri holds team records in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, and has attended the Speedo Junior National Championships several times.

She is extremely hard working and determined. This is evident in her swimming successes at the National level. Sherri is a 7 time US Junior National finalist and represented Rancho San Dieguito swim team and the Boys and Girls Club of San Dieguito at the 2012 US Olympic Trials. Her dedication and determination is seen both in and out of the pool. Academically this is exemplified by maintaining an overall GPA of 4.5 and graduating in the top 1% of her class at Carlsbad High School.

Sherri exemplifies all 6 RSD values: Respect, Excellence, Quality, Teamwork, Leadership, and Integrity. She is a team leader, and takes her role as captain very seriously. Everyone who knows Sherri can see how committed she is to both academic and athletic success. She works very hard in both areas and understands the values of persistence, hard work, and determination. Sherri will continue to pursue excellence as a scholar athlete in fall when she begins attending Norte Dame University and swims on their prestigious swim team.

Lucas Levenberg

Allred Branch, Carmel Valley

Sponsored by The Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito Foundation Lucas is an intelligent, kind, gentle, polite and playful member of Boys and Girls Clubs of San Dieguito, Allred Branch.

He attends Carmel Del Mar Elementary and is one of the top students in his class. Lucas enjoys Math, Science and helping animals in the Science Lab. This young member of the Allred Branch likes to help people in need. He has participated in Father Joe Carroll’s Run to raise money for the homeless during Thanksgiving 2013. He is also doing a Carlsbad 5k run that benefits his school Carmel Del Mar. Lucas was the computer lab monitor during the 2013-2014 school year at Allred branch. He organizes and supervises the fair use of the computer lab during Tech lab time. Lucas plays soccer with a team called “The Red Bandits” which is part of the Sharks Recreational Soccer Group. Lucas is a true friend and a caring young boy. He is considerate, fair and helpful. He says when he grows up he would like to become a police officer like his dad Tom. Although Lucas is too young to be nominated for our Youth of the Year, he has been chosen as our Jr. Youth of the Year and we hope he continues his journey at the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito.

AUCTION PROCEDURES SILENT AUCTION BIDDING An auction participant will place a bid by writing their bid number on the bid sheet provided. All bids will be made in accordance with the suggested “bid increments” listed on the bid sheet. The person with the highest bid at the time of closing will be considered the winner. Bids submitted after the closing of the silent auction will be considered null and void. Once a bid is written on a bid sheet it cannot be removed or crossed-off for any reason.

LIVE AUCTION BIDDING The live auction will take place on stage or a designated area at a specified time.

A bid acknowledged by the auctioneer is a legal contract to purchase the item. The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer or official staff shall be the purchaser.

Every effort will be made to identify and recognize all bids, but it is your responsibility as a bidder to make your bid known. In the event of a question as to the validity of any bid, the event staff will have final discretion to either determine the successful bidder, or to re-offer the item for the auction.

A minimum raise required of at least $100 higher than the existing bid for all live bidding. The auctioneer, at his sole discretion, can alter raises for any item.

CASHIERING CHECK OUT Winners of silent auction items will be notified of their winnings at your dinner tables approximately 45 minutes after the close of the silent auction. All cashiering for silent and live items will be conducted at the main registration/check out station located at the entrance/exit of the event. We accept cash, checks, American Express, Visa, or Mastercard, for your purchases.

If you need to leave prior to invoices being completed please notify a BGC staff member at the event for early check out. All items that are not paid for and/or checked out by the event’s end will be taken back to the BGC and winners of those items will be notified and the winner must arrange pick up of their items at the BGC main offices in Solana Beach.

RAISE THE The Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito has been in the forefront of youth development for 48 years. Our organization has been working with young people from disadvantaged economic, social, and familial circumstances.

We have actively sought to enrich the lives of young boys and girls whom other youth agencies have had difficulty in making an impact. We are dedicated to ensuring that all our community’s youth, regardless of their circumstances, have greater access to quality programs and services that will enhance their lives and shape their futures.

The La Colonia Branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito focuses on outreach to at-risk, Hispanic teens and youth residing in the Eden Gardens community of Solana Beach. This branch is thriving and filled with over 100 elementary and high school students, all whose program fee is completely sponsored by donors like you. The Elementary After School and Teen Mentoring Program at La Colonia started in 2006 to help suppress the escalating, drug and gang violence in the Eden Gardens neighborhood.

In this day and age, the Club provides scholarships and financial assistance to help youth and parents who face greater challenges and stresses than ever before such as: making ends meet, a parent losing a job, divorce, single parent homes, health concerns and negative influences. The La Colonia Branch is just one example of the many scholarships we provide throughout the entire Club at our seven branches and numerous specialty programs (aquatics, athletics, Center for a Healthy Lifestyle, and the Youth Arts Academy).

The Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito depends on donors like you to help provide scholarships for youth who need help with program fees. It costs approximately $1,000 per child per year to participate in our after school program. Last year alone, over $387,000 was allocated towards scholarships for children who need us most; that’s an 8% increase from 2012!

Please donate today and help youth like Daisy Aguilar, our 2013 Overall Youth of the Year and La Colonia branch alum. Daisy has received after school scholarships to attend the La Colonia branch throughout her journey as a Club member because of generous donors like you. Daisy has truly found her path to a great future because she had a positive place to go when school was out. There are many more young people like Daisy needing our help in the surrounding communities.

Cruise 4 Kids

Cruise 4 Kids is a Sports & Exotic Car Rally in San Diego which invites high-end luxury car owners to participate in a 40 mile “cruise.� This rally starts at the Coronado Ferry Landing and ends in a private Jet Hangar at Jet Source, Palomar-McClellan Airport in Carlsbad. At Jet Source, C4K drivers will be treated to a hosted bar, catered lunch, DJ, vendor/sponsor booths, driving simulators, silent auction and raffle, and awards presentation. This event is being filmed by local news media, helicopters, HD car mounted cameras, and videographers.

Sunday, February 8, 2015 A unique golf experience that enable golfers to play on the North Course of Torrey Pines Golf Club while the pros are playing their final round on the South Course during the Farmers Insurance Open PGA tournament. The day includes a unique ball format for 18 holes, easily accessible and convenient parking across the street from the North Course, premium gift bag valued at $250, catered breakfast and made-toorder BBQ lunch with hosted beverages, PGA passes, and entrance into a private section of the Tilted Kilt Tartan Terrace to watch the finals of the Open on the South Course.
