10 Classic Cast Iron Colours

Our range of classic cast iron colours are specially selected colours reflect the heritage and traditions of cast iron from Victorian times to the modern day. Chosen with an eye on classic interiors these tough, hard wearing & washable finishes add a stunning metallic look to your cast iron radiators. Our selection of darker colours such as Iron Ore, Lead Grey and Factory Black, are amongst the most popular choices along with the deep dark bronze of Vintage Coin and Classic Bronze. The range of Gold’s & Copper are perfect for a more rich and bold statement. The finish of the durable polyurethane wet paint is equivalent to an Eggshell, which sits well on the rough texture of cast iron. For samples please call 01342 302250.

Burnished & Industrial Finishes

Our Henley and Ledbury are both available in beautiful burnished and industrial finishes. The Burnished finish is achieved via tumbling the sections in a ceramic media, and then lightly buffing the sections on a polishing wheel. The Industrial finish is achieved by tumbling the sections in this same ceramic media, but then left unlacquered for a short while to patina, before we lacquer the sections to seal the finish.

Element & Wire Colour Options

Our cast iron elements can be supplied in one of 10 colours (shown below), and you can also select your preferred cable colour. The standard colour of the element and cable supplied is white. All elements are IPx4, Class 11.

Our standard cable colour is white. You can select either light grey or black, which could extend your lead time by up to 3 weeks.

Branded Paints

We are able to offer our Ledbury and Henley Electric cast iron in any one of Farrow & Ball's® or Little Greene's® stunning range of quality paints, a perfect match for any heritage property. They add a classic high quality finish to your radiator that will perfectly match your chosen colour. We only use genuine Farrow & Ball® or Little Greene® paints. For Farrow & Ball® we use their Estate Eggshell (20% sheen), and for Little Greene®, we use their Tom's Oil Eggshell (15% gloss).

The process is very straightforward, simply specify the colour name and reference number along with the radiator range and size and we will provide you with a quotation. Once approved we will order the paint and produce your radiators. Please do note that (especially with Little Greene®) the reference number is extremely important. Little Greene’s palette of 196 colours includes the ‘Colour Scales’ which offer graduated shades from the same family of pigments. Therefore, similar names have been given, with a colour number for each.

Heating Elements & Dual Fuel Kits

Adding an electric element (normally to a towel rail) is an excellent way to make the most of an existing central heating system during the summer, allowing you to warm towels when the heating is turned off. You will need a suitably sized element, with either a T-Piece to adapt the pipe centres or a specifically designed set of valves that will accommodate an element and pipes without the need to change the position of the pipes.

Most towel rails are installed as part of a standard central heating system, but this means they will be cold when the heating is turned off in summer. With a dual fuel option, you can have the best of both worlds. Using a special valve connection, an electric element can be added to your towel rail to enable you to use your towel rail and keep your towels warm in the summer without having to turn on the heating.

Follow these simple stages to select the correct Dual Fuel Kit for your towel rail.

1. Valve Configurations

All radiators will require a valve, select either a T-piece or a Dual Fuel valve to suit your installation.

There are two types of electric elements to choose from (see below and opposite).

It is important to select the correct size element for your towel rail. Too small and it will not provide enough heat, too large and it can burn out. The chart above right that shows the towel rail output in watts and the corresponding recommended size of element.

Please note that due to the printing process and manufacturing tolerances, the colour (including white) of a finished radiator may vary slightly from the colours represented in the brochure and from one colour group to another, as well as from our Special Finish & RAL charts. It should also be noted that if the same type of radiators are ordered and produced, they may also differ in finished colour from any previously ordered.

How much heat?

We always recommend you choose radiators with a higher output than required, as you can always turn them down & have the reassurance of additional heat in really cold spells.

How is heat output measured?

There are two recognised measurements for heat output; BTU’s (British Thermal Unit) and Watts. As this brochure is offering Electric only products you will find Watts listed in the pricing table by each radiator or towel rail.

How can I find out what heat outputs I need?

Your installer should be able to confirm the exact requirements for each of your rooms, but you can also visit our website (theradiatorcompany.co.uk) and use our online heat calculator or use the following simple calculation as a guide;

Find the volume of your room in cubic feet = height x width x length (To convert cubic metres into cubic feet multiply the total figure by 35.31).

For example:

A bathroom 6’x8’ with 8’ ceilings = 625 Watts

You may need more than 1 radiator in order to ensure an even distribution of heat in a large room, if so divide the required output by the total number of radiators you could sensibly place in the room. e.g. a lounge 14’ x 18’ x 8’ ceilings = 3350 Watts

Two radiators would require an output of = 1675 Watts each, 3 radiators = 1116 Watts each

Finishes and Painted Cast Iron

It should be noted that due to the production process colours can vary by +/- 5 to 10% from samples provided and between radiators ordered in the same colour at different times. All painted cast iron radiators will be checked and tested prior to despatch. Care must be taken when handling painted cast iron radiators on-site to avoid damaging the finish. Cast iron radiators will be supplied with a small bottle of touch up paint in case of damage to the finish during installation, however, it should be noted that this may vary slightly from the original finish. As a result of the casting process, cast iron radiators have a rough surface finish with small imperfections which will show after the painting process.

Safety Instructions

The radiator must be installed by a qualified electrician in compliance with the standards in force.

Always fix the heated Towel Rail to the wall as per the assembly instructions provided with each electric product.

When installing the towel rail the IEC 60364-7-701 according to the edition in force must be complied.

To supply the towel rail, an omnipolar switch, with at least 3 mm of distance between contacts, must be employed.

When installing in bathrooms or in shower-rooms, the appliance should be installed in such a way to avoid the switch and other controls to be reached by people using the bath or the shower. (see Fig. A )

The radiator must not be installed immediately beneath a fixed current outlet.

Take utmost care while installing the Towel Rail to avoid damaging the electronic thermostat and the connecting cable.

In order to reduce risk to children, we recommend installing the device in such way that the lowest heating pipe is at least 600mm above the ground.

Please note that many of our factories close for 2–4 weeks during the holiday periods of July/August and December. This may extend the delivery period quoted for non stock made to order items ordered during July/August & December/January. We will confirm the expected delivery date on our order acknowledgement at the time of order. Unfortunately, delivery to Scotland / Offshore Islands may take longer due to the distances involved . Deliveries will be made to the nearest hard standing area.
