2015 was an exciting year for Asahi Premium Beverages. We acquired popular craft brewer Mountain Goat and more recently the distribution rights for Estrella Damm; launched our new low carb/low alcohol offering, Asahi Soukai; the Asahi Super Dry brand experienced over 60 per cent growth; Somersby became Australia’s No.1 cider; and Woodstock enjoyed a successful first year as sponsor of V8 Supercars.
Other new product development included the introduction of Wild Moose Canadian Whisky and Dry, as well as a number of new product introductions in Cricketers Arms, Somersby and Cruiser.
We were pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Ritoli as General Manager – National Sales and Andrew Amarant as General Manager – International Sales, in September. Andrew and Michael will be responsible for solidifying Asahi Premium Beverages’ growth in Australia and New Zealand and accelerating the business’ expansion into international markets.
As our sales team consolidated, it also grew in numbers, meaning that we have been able to spread our reach and we are now calling on more retailers than ever before. In 2016, we will continue to invest in our people who will be better equipped with the tools and information necessary to work and plan with retailers on driving growth for their business.
We will also continue our investment in our brands and NPD in 2016, and work closely with retailers to build strong promotional programs. Despite current industry challenges, we are very fortunate to have an offering in segments that are showing growth and now have access to more information and data than ever before.
Trends evolve, as we all know, and one trend that will continue to gain pace is the development of Australia’s craft beer market. Craft is the new premium beer in our view, and our recent acquisition of Mountain Goat signaled our desire to play a more active role in the category, growing on our footing with Cricketers Arms, which has grown to be a top ten player in craft this year. We expect that other categories will follow this trend and we are well placed with brands like Somersby (a premium European Cider) to ensure we are at the forefront.
On behalf of Asahi Premium Beverages, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and wish you a prosperous year in 2016.
