A GUIDE FOR WA TRAINERS

Own The Dream is a competition created by Racing and Wagering WA (RWWA) to provide prospective owners an opportunity to meet trainers, breeders and industry professionals in order to start their ownership journey. The competition consists of four FREE events which equip teams with the education and knowledge to actively pursue ownership. At the end of the campaign, three lucky teams will win up to $55,000 in vouchers to use towards a racehorse at the 2023 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale.

As a licenced WA thoroughbred trainer, we have provided a FAQ list to assist with any questions that may arise.

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED IN PROMOTING MY STABLE?

Trainers are the beneficiaries of the Own The Dream competition and this represents a golden opportunity for trainers to promote their stables to potential clients. Previous trainers who have engaged with the competition have been successful in attracting new clients.

The Racing Connections Masterclass event on Sunday 19 February is an opportunity for you as a registered WA trainer to engage with teams ahead of the sale. This event will take place at the Magic Millions Sales Complex between 1pm – 6pm.

THE COMPETITION PRIZES:

All prizes offered in Own The Dream must be redeemed on a Westspeed Platinum Breeder Nominated Yearling at the 2023 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale.

1ST: $30,000 PRIZE PACKAGE

The successful teams have the following options with their prize:

A. $30,000 direct towards the purchase of a share in a yearling

B. $25,000 towards a share + $5,000 in training fees

2ND $15,000 PRIZE PACKAGE

A. $15,000 direct towards the purchase of a share in a yearling

B. $10,000 towards a share + $5,000 in training fees

3RD $10,000 PRIZE PACKAGE

A. $10,000 direct towards the purchase of a share in a yearling

B. $8,000 towards a share + $2,000 in training fees

CONSOLATION PRIZES:

All remaining teams who miss out on first, second or third place prizes will be able to redeem a $1500 voucher towards a Westspeed Platinum yearling at the 2023 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale.

HOW DOES A TEAM USE THEIR VOUCHER?

The transaction takes place between Racing and Wagering WA (RWWA) and Magic Millions. No monies will be provided direct to team entrants. Once a team has completed an Own The Dream voucher form, RWWA will send this to the trainer of the purchased yearling for confirmation of available shares remaining.

Once a trainer approves the voucher, the amount will be credited from their purchaser account with Magic Millions. If John Smith purchased a yearling for $100,000 and the winning Own The Dream team select that yearling, John’s account will be reduced to $70,000 owing to Magic Millions if the winning team select option A for their prize.

If the team selected Option B, John’s account will be credited $25,000 and he will be asked to invoice RWWA for the $5,000 training fees. Once received, payment will be made, and John will take on all responsibility for crediting the team with ongoing training fees.

WILL RWWA ASSIST WITH REGISTERING THE TEAMS IN A SYNDICATE?

Yes, RWWA will provide the appropriate paperwork for teams to register a syndicate with Racing Australia. This is a common request when there are large numbers of owners in a yearling and a team of four – six members cannot be listed individually on the ownership. Trainers who take on Own The Dream teams are encouraged to utilise the RWWA Ownership team to assist with this process.

OTHER TIPS:

SOCIAL MEDIA – we encourage trainers to update their website and social media accounts during the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale and use the hashtag #OwnTheDream2023.

MAGIC MILLIONS RACING WOMEN’S BONUS – Many allfemale teams in the competition are interested in using their voucher towards a yearling that is aimed for the Magic Millions Racing Women’s Bonus. If you are planning on purchasing a yearling for this bonus, please promote this on your social accounts or website. Alternatively, you can inform RWWA at owner@rwwa.com.au.

HOW DO TEAMS REDEEM A VOUCHER?

1. All teams will be provided a voucher form to complete at the Grand Finale event on Saturday 25 February. Teams will have 30 days to complete the form.

2. Teams will be provided a list of eligible yearlings purchased at the finale from the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sales. This is narrowed down to Westspeed Platinum yearlings purchased by a licenced WA thoroughbred trainer or syndicator.

3. Teams will contact trainers or syndicators about available shares in their purchased yearlings. Teams may ask RWWA to assist with this process.

4. Once teams have sourced their yearling, they will complete the voucher form with the Lot Number of the horse and email this to RWWA.

5. RWWA will then assess the voucher form before emailing this to the trainer for confirmation of available shares in the selected yearling.

6. Once trainer confirms, the voucher form will be sent to Magic Millions to credit the trainer’s purchaser account.

A reminder that ALL transactions take place between RWWA and Magic Millions.
