FORM AND FUNCTION
Providing radial views of the river, groves, and facilities, the EXO structure occupies the circular sight adjacent to the IAMM Building. This site caters to a variety of guests who visit the farm daily. From employees, athletes, patients, or recreation, all kinds of people pass this space during their commute. The pavilion provides a node or meeting point on the campus in what is currently an underused or dilapidated space. Playing into the existing pavement patterns, the curvilinear form engages the interior of the site as it wraps inward. The form was inspired by biological forms and patterns in order to create a shape that can support height and potentially uneven ground. As the existing site includes benches around the perimeter, this form provides the opportunity to incorporate seating that wraps from the interior to the exterior, thus catering to several visitors at once. The forms tessellating pattern of the exterior allows for visual transparency through the structure, but still provides the sensation of enclosure. While the form is represented as exposed, acrylic panels could be cut and placed into the voronoi pattern in order to shield the interior from the wind and rain. Site Images provided by: Kevin Lee
