Peking Opera Museum Design

Type: Academic/Individual

Site:Beijing, China

Time: 2017.09

Supervisor:Jun SHAN

The Peking Opera Museum is located on the east side of Beijing Gulou, and is one of the most representative areas in Beijing. The Drum Tower in history represents the authority of time. At this moment, this area is a platform for young people, tourists and citizens to communicate with each other, and mainstream culture and underground music are carried forward here. This design aims to make Peking Opera a link between citizens and tourists, between tradition and modernity, and between China and the world, as much as possible to restore the cordiality and stability of the Hutong area, while integrating Beijing’s traditional culture. The rich and clear curve space aims to Create diversified visit experiences and create opportunities for different groups of people to communicate, interact, and convey Peking Opera culture.

The original texture of the site is small-scale streets and courtyard houses. In order to integrate into the city and be close to the citizens, similar strips are selected for the architectural texture.

Add the flow of spatial circulation and connect various exhibition spaces in series. The interior atmosphere of this non-linear space is relaxed and lively, completely open to the public.

Based on different functions, the height and width of this nonlinear space are designed to be appropriate. Spatial relationship of staffs, locals and tourists are refined based on their relationships.

Refine the spatial layout, increase the beam and column system of the building structure, complete the facade design, green courtyard design, and consider the light environment

A non-liner circulation is used to connect the outward urban space and the inward citizen residential area, so that the building has both the external citizen participation stage and the internal exhibition space. At the same time, the interior and exterior of the building separates the activity space for visitors and performers, and at the same time creates the possibility of sight and lightshadow communication, so that the relationship between the two is constantly changing during the visit.

A Tale of Arcadia

New China National Gallery Project

Type: Academic/Individual

Site:Beijing, China

Time: 2018.02

Supervisor:Yansong MA

Art is always swallowed by power and ideology. This is especially obvious in China. People can only see what they should see, not actively exploring. The gallery is no longer a carrier of artistic value, but an attraction. Therefore, this gallery is to inspire people to create and learn. This project was designed in a completely utopian state, with no ideological rules. By visiting, people can liberate numbness from hegemony. The purpose of the visit is to rebuild the ability to think, observe and break, the ability to inform and be informed in the transformation of the spatial narrative, and to generate an attitude towards the surrounding objects.

Aesthetic Process-Variation

Aesthetic Process-Consciousness

Aesthetic Process-Revolution

The architecture hopes to use a state of absolute disappearance against the powers around the site. The purpose of using non-confrontation is to allow people to awaken people's thinking about reality in the process of searching for the boundary between existence and extinction. But instead of hiding the building, I hope the "hidden" of the building is readable. At the same time, the internal environment of the building should be completely different from the external environment. The external environment is modern and familiar to people, while the internal environment is unfamiliar but not fearful, just like the pleasant society of the paddock traffic in the Taohuayuan. Therefore, the three states of environment-building boundarybuilding interior can correspond to the different states of people discovering the peach blossom source by relying on the river.

The entrance of the building is composed of two parts. The zigzag ramp connects the small opening on the mirror façade of the peplescale size. People need to climb up to enter the building. The way is dark, but the light at the end attracts people to walk up.

The exit of the building is the only one, far away from the building. People need to walk upwards to gradually get out of the water, stuffing the Guoxue Pavilion and the Bird's Nest into people's eyes, and letting people return to the world from the beautiful peach blossom source.

The interior of the building is the canine-toothed mountains. People's first impression of the interior of the building is the stacked space and the viewers passing through it. The concepts of being viewed and viewed are blurred here. The complexity of the internal space contrasts with the simplicity of the outer skin and the cleanliness of the exhibition space, allowing people to stay and children to play. The National Gallery should be a place that attracts people to visit many times, not a sculpture that can see its essence in one go.

Art Axis

Urban Design for the Beijing Central Axis

Type: Academic/Individual

Site:Beijing, China

Time: 2018.09

Supervisor:Ge ZHONG

This design is for the Tianqiao part of Beijing central axis. As the ending of central axis, the Tianqiao bridge represents the end of imperial power and the beginning of civilian life in history where under the spontaneous creation from citizens, the relationship between upper and lower could always find a balance. However, the grand narrative represented by today's central axis is out of touch with the civilian system represented by the Tianqiao area with performing arts and culture genes. Therefore, in this design, I tried to improve the imbalance between the government and citizens, through the resetting of regional functions, creating a balanced cultural area, and using space axis and path management to create an excessive spatial experience, inserting different spatial nodes Nature to activate the vitality of the area.

Art Axis

Urban Design for the Beijing Central Axis

Tianqiao is a performing arts area, and the performing arts activities it carries merge both the mainstream public and the private niche. It is necessary to find a suitable juxtaposition form in the lot.

At the same time, residents, tourists and professional experiencers also need to find a suitable way of getting along in the space. In my design, the resolution on both sides of the axis represents traditional citizen culture and official discourse, and the axis itself exists as a display window.

Although the area is not large, both dignitaries and ordinary people can find suitable entertainment activities here.

Despite the gradual decline of original citizen culture, the Tianqiao area still exists as a secular cultural business card within Beijing.

UP & TOWN Student Union Center Design

Type: Academic/Individual

Site:Beijing, China

Time: 2017.03

Supervisor:Xiaoxi Cheng

The Student Union Center is part of the design of the Academic Town in Tsinghua University. It is a refurbishment design of a dormitory and service building on the existing site. On the basis of preserving the original structural system, the design attracts as many people as possible through the transformation of internal and external spaces, and creates a dynamic spatial experience. In order to fit the academic atmosphere from overall environment, elements such as cloisters and water surfaces were introduced.
