In the thick of the pandemic, trapped in our homes, we talked about little else. Now back in our offices and regular work hours, on the surface, we may look more like the old ‘normal’, yet a deeper dive reveals how tough it still is for people. Well-being is now number one when it comes to recruitment and retention. Salary, personal growth, career opportunity and trendy work environments now rated considerably lower. Even in our industry we have never seen such large numbers of team movement and turnover. So I ask myself; What can we do to help our people right now? What did we have in place when well-being was our focus? What have we currently got that we could utilise again?

WELL BEING CONCERN Ill health, fatigue, uncertainty, disillusionment are toxically contagious. Maintaining a healthy team culture is critical and the responsibility of all.

What We Have to Help • Let’s show up to recognition events and HX as a united team. • Each quarter plan for fun and team building - Ask us about our culture counts program with lots of ideas. • Give back and get involved in Harcourts Foundation giving back days.

WELL BEING CONCERN 50% of people who leave their place of work reveal that mental health is a contributing factor.

What We Have to Help • Our library and online platform have many helpful resources that new members in our team will not have been exposed to. • Mental resilience tips • Staying Strong booklet • Recorded webinars: - One Team: Lifting Capacity https://vimeo.com/564466330/ac56eebcc6 - World Class PM: Mental Health First Aid https://vimeo.com/704442027/abba16b2bb

WELL BEING CONCERN A common conversation around the leadership tables these days is issues with businesses being short-staffed, the lack of people applying for work and the quality of those that do. Avoiding stress in the workplace, whether seen as lazy

or just re-prioritising, the impact is a declining amount of work output.

Help our people to feel they are growing not stressed. Challenged not overworked. Each member of your team should have a Harcourts IDP in place or areas of growth identified for the year.

WELL BEING CONCERN Mental Health is now the primary cause of chronic illness. Our leaders and business owners are challenged by absent team members unwell or unmotivated. Add to this that the baby boomer age bracket group, the largest number of people in the workforce, are now retiring!

What We Have to Help Our leaders need help managing their own well-being and need business structures in place that allow them down time to recharge. We need to re-invigorate our Harcourts Future Leaders program to develop team members flagged for leadership succession. • Recorded webinars for leaders -Leadership: Building a Culture of Care https://vimeo.com/582291610/1dca27ce53 • Graeme Cowan Follow-up Videos (These are related to the above Leadership video) - What is your one thing?: https://vimeo.com/160027717/07abc41a89 - Green zone boost tips: https://vimeo.com/188090659/0320cad859 - RUOK?: https://vimeo.com/172068359/2eededa41c

Give your people permission to continue to talk about mental health and well-being. • Ask every employee how they are feeling as often as every week.

Validation is everything, “It’s ok to feel that way.” • Break down their workday into smaller units of time separated by personal breaks. • Use video calls whenever feasible. It’s surprisingly therapeutic for team members to see each other talking, smiling, and laughing. • Be watchful for signs of stress and do something to help. Take some of the pressure off your employees by bringing in skilled temporary professionals to help out in the most bottlenecked areas. • Encourage team members to take the time off they’ve earned. Having holidays to look forward to is almost as good as the holiday itself.
