Managers’ Welcome

The team here is delighted to welcome everybody to Naas Racecourse today, and we hope everyone enjoys what looks like an exciting jumps racing card. This meeting often attracts high-class performers, so there should be plenty of clues for the major spring festivals, including Cheltenham.

I am delighted to welcome Gary Finlay and David McLoughlin back to Naas today as we continue our partnership with Finlay Motor Group. This is the third year of our collaboration and it has been great to work with such a well-established local business. The Finlay Ford at Naas Novice Chase looks likely to have a big impact on the Cheltenham Festival markets and we are looking forward to another quality renewal. Another local sponsor to thank is Clinton Higgins Chartered Accountants. Based in Naas town, we work with Michael Higgins and his team throughout the year. A great team to work with and we are grateful for their sponsorship of our opening novice chase today.

Our Naas Racecourse Business Club was formed over 20 years ago with the specific aim of businesses and racing enthusiasts sponsoring Listed and Graded races at Naas Racecourse and it is still going strong today. We are delighted to have our members with us today to enjoy some hospitality as they sponsor one of the feature races, The Limestone Lad Grade 3 Hurdle. The Business Club is certainly worth looking into and please feel free to contact us at any time to discuss, a great way of networking is a day at the races with like-minded people!

BetVictor are back with us today in sponsoring two of today’s seven races, it is great to have this continued support and it is very much appreciated. Keep an eye on the winners of their races. Jasmin De Vaux won the bumper before winning the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham, and Ndaawi came 3rd in the Boodles after winning the maiden hurdle.

We are thrilled to host a leg of the Albert Bartlett Triple Crown Series, a series that provides an opportunity for horses in the competitive handicap hurdle category, to compete for an impressive prize on a feature festival day at Punchestown in a few month’s time.

I also want to welcome the team from ALOGA Equestrian who we are delighted to announce will be the 2025 Stable Yard Sponsor. Their sponsorship means we can subsidise the grooms canteen and give them top-quality food whilst they’re working hard producing the stars we see on the track today.

Finally I would like to thank the Irish EBF for their continued support in enhancing the prize fund available to the owners and trainers throughout the year.

Today’s catering is available in The Panoramic Restaurant on the first floor of The Grandstand while for some informal dining The Post self-service restaurant is located beside the parade ring. The café in the Grandstand has lots of tasty treats while there are public bars on the ground floor of both The Grandstand and The Circle. Please approach a member of staff if you need any assistance or you can go to the Race Day office beside the entrance turnstiles, where they will be happy to help you.

My email is below should you need to contact me with anything, please enjoy your day and have a safe journey home. Our next meeting is on Saturday February 8th and it’s the exciting Cheltenham Trials Day, a day not to miss!

Today’s Sponsors

The Chairman, Directors and Management of Naas Racecourse would like to thank today’s sponsors:

Next race meeting

Saturday 8th February 2025

At every meeting there are specially qualified equine veterinary surgeons on duty to look after the well-being of all the horses racing. There is a vet in attendance at the start of each race who follows the horses throughout the race and is quickly on hand if a casualty occurs. It is normal procedure to erect screens around any horse receiving veterinary treatment. This allows the veterinary surgeon some privacy to fully assess the horses’ injuries and racegoers should not assume the worst if screens are erected around an injured horse. The Blue Cross ambulance is always present to transport the horse back to the stable yard for further treatment if necessary. A secondary veterinary surgeon is in attendance in the stable yard to assess and treat any horse requiring such attention post race. The horses’ welfare is always our priority.

RACE VERDICT

Chences can be given to plenty of these. Clonmel winner Kiltealy Park has to bounce back from a poor effort at Limerick but looks feasibly treated on her winning form. Canal End has trip in his favour and a big run would not surprise. Hat-trick seeking Individualiste has an obvious chance despite a 10lb rise for his Navan win. Top-weight ANSWER TO KAYF ran okay in a couple of good beginners chases and off a mark of 130 is hard to ignore. He could take beating.

“The majority of bragging rights belonged to the Go s Arkle Sale, which was the highest grossing event with turnover of €16,602,500. The Arkle Sale also boasted the highest average and median price… while 344 sold lots also gave this auction the highest clearance rate”.

RACE VERDICT

A Grade 3 that looks of Grade 1 quality. Dee Capo and Good Land are both capable of winning at this level but look likely to fall short here. Bioluminescence was impressive on her chase debut in a mares Grade 2 at Limerick, but her penalty gives her a tough ask in taking on DANCING CITY, a three-time Grade 1 winning novice hurdler who should come on plenty for his win at Punchestown. RACE VERDICT

An element of doubt surrounds former bumper star A Dream To Share following last year’s Leopardstown reverse and an inconclusive hurdling debut at Fairyhouse. However, he can probably improve enough to account for the once-raced Krak and bumper winner Kalix Delabarriere. There was 14lb between the pair at Leopardstown, but the Mullins runner made a bad mistake three out then. Ballybow and High Court Cave also have maidenwinning potential. [Alan Sweetman]

RACE VERDICT

Oran McGill has partnered CAVE COURT 9naP0 to four of his five wins and again takes a valuable 7lb off the top weight who was a fine second in a 23-runner Leopardstown handicap at Christmas. He is just preferred to Must Go Now, up 10lb for an emphatic Leopardstown win. Useful handicap chaser Hartur D’Arc is on a tempting mark but the trip may be too short for him. [Alan Sweetman]

Selection AMERICAN JUKEBOX

RACE VERDICT

Willie Mullins won this with Champion Bumper winner Jasmin De Vaux last year, and Adiemus has to be considered a leading player even though he was not a particularly expensive purchase by stable standards. American Jukebox has an edge over Meetmeinstlouis on Leopardstown running and should go close. Champagne Jury finished second in a point. A speculative vote goes to JERICHO DE FENOIR, a halfbrother to Champion Hurdle winner Espoir D’Allen. [Alan Sweetman]
