On behalf of all the team and the Board of Directors here at Naas Racecourse, we are delighted to welcome you all to our feature jumps day of the year, the Lawlor’s of Naas Grade 1 Novice Hurdle Day. We hope you had a lovely Christmas and we are thrilled to have you kick-start 2025 with us today.
Manager
Eddie Moran Owner Liaison
Lawlor’s Day is always huge in our calendar, as it features our only Grade 1 of the season, and it is wonderful to have a local long-standing relationship with a business like Lawlor’s Hotel. Lawlor’s Hotel and Naas Racecourse stand out as two local businesses that continue to improve and grow year on year and we are hugely grateful to Jack Tierney and all his team at the hotel for their continued support. Within walking distance of the racecourse, there is no better place than Lawlor’s Hotel to race and stay throughout the year or to grab a delicious meal post-racing. With €100,000 in prizemoney for today’s contest, we have been blessed with another strong renewal and we can’t wait to see who comes out on top.
Today is extra special, as not only do we have the Lawlor’s of Naas Novice Hurdle (Grade 1), but we also have the first renewal of the Racing Post Novice Steeplechase (Grade 2) to further boost the quality of today’s card. It is fitting to have a company of the standing of the Racing Post sponsoring today’s contest – whether it be the traditional paper or their world-class online output, the Racing Post is the go-to source of information, reports, feature pieces, tipping and analysis of our brilliant sport. I am sure many of you do so on a daily basis but make sure to check out www.racingpost.com. A big welcome to the Racing Post and their guests and we wish them well today and for the year ahead.
Speaking of industry-leading, it is great to welcome back the Race and Stay team headed by Martyn Pipe who set the standard when it comes to horse racing tour companies. Originally set up in 2012, Race and Stay have a long track record of delivering complete Hotel, Transport and Racing packages to the many National and International guests wanting to come racing in Ireland. Race and Stay Packages are designed by racegoers, for racegoers and include everything you need for a first-class racing break with further information found at www.raceandstay.com. Thanks to Martyn for his ongoing support.
We round off the day with the bumper that is once again generously sponsored by the team behind Fifty Stars who is standing a short distance away from the racecourse at Sunnyhill Stud. We are delighted that Jack Cantillon is advertising his exciting son of Sea The Stars, a Group 1 winner, on the racecourse. You will be able to call into Sunnyhill Stud next week for the ITM Stallion Trail if you’d like to catch a glimpse of him.
A special thank you goes to Adare Manor and the Irish EBF who continue to support us here at Naas Racecourse today and throughout the year. Both are massive supporters of Irish racing as a whole and we really are hugely appreciative of their ongoing investment.
We have lots on throughout the day including our Winter Best Dressed competition that takes place in the marquee next to the parade ring. A big thank you to our fashion sponsors, Frasers and Lawlor’s Hotel, without whom the prize of over €2,000 would not be possible. This is open to both ladies and gents so make sure to call in and register your details.
As usual, our wonderful caterers, Lily and Wild, will be operating all the bars, restaurants and café throughout the day while we will also have food offerings through our outdoor units. So, make sure to sign off the Christmas season with another tasty option and enjoy the day. We also have the on-site Creche, located just down from the turnstiles, where the little ones can enjoy face painting and a magic show in a fully supervised and fun setting.

At every meeting there are specially qualified equine veterinary surgeons on duty to look after the well-being of all the horses racing. There is a vet in attendance at the start of each race who follows the horses throughout the race and is quickly on hand if a casualty occurs. It is normal procedure to erect screens around any horse receiving veterinary treatment. This allows the veterinary surgeon some privacy to fully assess the horses’ injuries and racegoers should not assume the worst if screens are erected around an injured horse. The Blue Cross ambulance is always present to transport the horse back to the stable yard for further treatment if necessary. A secondary veterinary surgeon is in attendance in the stable yard to assess and treat any horse requiring such attention post race. The horses’ welfare is always our priority.
Please note that it is a condition of admission to the racecourse that Naas Race Company Plc. Quite a hot contest to start with. Karia Des Blaises ran a cracker on her chase debut at Cork, the step up in trip will suit and she looks the best of the Mullins trio. However, Henry de Bromhead is also well represented with potentially exciting recruit Lantry Lady. Preference is for the unexposed MAJESTIC FORCE, possibly unlucky on her debut at Cork with more improvement in her. [Justin O’Hanlon]

He may have too much pace for Firefox, whose first two chase runs have been over 2m4f and Ile Atlantique who looks more of a staying type. [Alan Sweetman]

Selection WINGMEN
With three hurdle runs under his belt, THE YELLOW CLAY has a level of experience that could make all the difference, though he will need to be sharper than when scrambling home in a race in this grade at Navan. He was a convincing Grade 3 scorer on his second start and is given narrow preference over the Champion Bumper winner Jasmin De Vaux who was not especially fluent on his first attempt. Butch Cassidy makes most appeal of the remainder. [Alan Sweetman]

A course bumper winner in 2022, ICARE D’AUBRELLE may reward the patience of connections who have run him only twice in the interim. No amount of dead wood here. Cases can be made for the consistent Krabat along with Miss Lia who should come on for her recent run at Fairyhouse. A confident selection goes to the progressive GIANT HAYSTACKS(nap) who faces a much less taxing task here than at Leopardstown last week. [Justin O’Hanlon]

The Racing Post Predictor is a ‘Computer Generated’ predicted outcome of the race in visual form, generated by an algorithm of key factors (including eg current form, ratings and going.)
Almost total guesswork involved here, although Through The Storm showed ability in a Hereford bumper a couple of weeks ago and the stable have won this race a couple of times. Test The Market commands respect, as does Chez Fred from a stable whose bumper newcomers are always respected. Preference is for LIGHT UP THE DARK, given the stable’s fantastic run of form over the Christmas perios and indeed prior to that.
