Managers’ Welcome
On behalf of the Naas Racecourse board and team, I welcome you to Day 2 of Oktoberfest and our final flat meeting of the year. It has been another great summer of flat racing and we round off our season with another high-quality card featuring the valuable Irish EBF Auction Series Race Final.
Eddie Moran Owner Liaison
The Irish EBF continues to be a tremendous supporter of Irish racing with the sponsorship of five races today, including today’s feature race as well as the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Garnet Stakes and the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Bluebell Stakes. We take this opportunity to thank the team and board of the Irish EBF for their continued great work.
A special thank you goes to Colm White for his ongoing support of the Colm White Bookmaker Beggar’s End Handicap. A well-known face in the bookmaker’s ring around the country including here at Naas Racecourse, we are delighted to have Colm back supporting today’s valuable contest. You will see he has generously given all racegoers a €10 matched bet in the racecard, so make sure to call down to his pitch today.
The Smurfit family are one of our longest-standing sponsors, they sponsor today via the Irish EBF Tifrums Maiden with Forenaghts Stud. Tifrums was the first foundation mare for the farm, producing a Royal Ascot winner and an Italian Derby winner for the family. Forenaghts were recently back in the limelight when last week at Goffs they secured €500,000 for one of their yearlings, a great result for our neighbours and we look forward to celebrating with them today.
A warm welcome goes to all our racegoers today including those enjoying hospitality in our Panoramic Restaurant. As well as our pre-booked hospitality, our caterers, Lily & Wild, have lots of tasty options for racegoers to enjoy in the Post Restaurant, in the Coffee Shop in the grandstand while we have a full bar option in the Circle Lounge. To those owners with a runner with us today, best of luck both on and off the track today and we hope to see you in the winner’s enclosure.
Finally, we are already looking forward to the jumps season kicking off here on November 10th for our “Return of the Jumps” fixture. There are lots of ticket and options available on www.naasracecourse.com so make sure to book early.

race meeting Sunday 10th November 2024
At every meeting there are specially qualified equine veterinary surgeons on duty to look after the well-being of all the horses racing. There is a vet in attendance at the start of each race who follows the horses throughout the race and is quickly on hand if a casualty occurs. It is normal procedure to erect screens around any horse receiving veterinary treatment. This allows the veterinary surgeon some privacy to fully assess the horses’ injuries and racegoers should not assume the worst if screens are erected around an injured horse. The Blue Cross ambulance is always present to transport the horse back to the stable yard for further treatment if necessary. A secondary veterinary surgeon is in attendance in the stable yard to assess and treat any horse requiring such attention post race. The horses’ welfare is always our priority. The Association of
Veterinary Surgeons (AIRCVS)

Irish EBF Welcome Note
Today, Irish Stallion Farms, will celebrate 10 years of the Irish EBF Auction Series and will also break the €6,000,000 mark in series prize money when the €120,000 Irish EBF Auction Series Final takes place. Since 2015, the series has run 241 races including todays final with about 1,600 horses taking part. The nine previous final winners all had different trainers and different owners, this shows the popularity and spread of support from all corners of the industry for the series since its inception.
The Irish EBF Auction Series has somewhat transformed flat racing ownership in Ireland over the last decade with trainers and owners at every level being catered for and afforded valuable opportunities with juvenile horses. The main purpose of the series was to give valuable race opportunities to horses bought at the middle to lower end of the auction market. Now trainers and owners are sourcing yearlings to target at the series and with a good horse you can win significant prize money, increase their value, sell them on or target one of the two finals available to them. It’s a win-win series.
To compliment today’s valuable €120,000 Auction Series Final, the €50,000 Irish EBF Auction Series Nursery Handicap was run at Cork racecourse last week to give horses who prefer a shorter distance a chance to compete for excellent prize-money. It was won by Smoke them Out, a €4,000 purchase at Goffs Orby yearling sales trained by Tom McCourt.
Naas Racecourse have played an integral part in the success of the Auction Series and great praise must be given to the board and staff for their hard work and enthusiasm. Naas have built their Oktoberfest weekend festival around seven Irish Stallion Farm supported races, the popular Birdcatcher Nursery Handicap, two fillies listed races, the Garnet and Bluebell Stakes and three maidens. In total, Irish EBF have added €108,000 of additional prize-money to this weekends racing and I must sincerely thank all the Irish Stallion farms who contribute to the scheme each year to make a weekend like this possible.
I would also like to thank everyone who has supported the series, the owners, trainers, jockeys, breeders, racecourses and Horse Racing Ireland. We wish everyone a great day’s racing and look forward to cheering home the 2024 winner of the Irish EBF Auction Series Final.
Joe Foley
Irish EBF Chairman

A special gathering is being held today at Naas Racecourse. The UCD Ag class of 1984 is getting together for the first time in 40 years. Class members from the USA, UK, all corners of Ireland, and even some from Kildare will be in attendance.
Ireland in 1984 was a much different place. Garret Fitzgerald led a coalition government, it was the year of the Brighton bombing, unemployment stood at 16%, and graduates were emigrating in their thousands.
This group survived and flourished, and they are here today to celebrate their friendships.
Naas Racecourse would like to give a warm welcome to each and every one of them.

Joseph O’Brien saddles the two highest-rated runners. Preference is for DIGNAM, dropped in class and trip after a 1m1f Group 3 run in France. Though yet to score on turf, SAKTI is appealing on the strength of a Group 3 Curragh fourth, well advertised by the placed horses in dominating the Group 2 Blandford Stakes. Joseph O’Brien has five runners, headed by Goldana who may have needed a Gowran run last month and could now reverse form with Improvista and Azada on easier ground. The consistent Princess Child can also feature for O’Brien. [Alan Sweetman] Source: Racing Post

RACE VERDICT
Quite a few have claims in this Listed heat. Caught You Looking should win on ratings but she has questions to answer regarding the suitability of this trip. Ameerat Jumaira is progressive and should go well, as should Belhaven but preference is for the unexposed ROMZINA. She had a few of these behind when runner up on her first try in this grade at Galway, despite racing keenly, and if the first-time hood helps her to settle better, there could be plenty more to come. RACE VERDICT
A competitive handicap. Joseph O’Brien won this last year and Comfort Zone looks the most likely of his trio. Aidan O’Brien also runs three and Chemistry may represent his best chance but he is drawn very wide. Man O Work and Seddon can’t be discounted but a chance is taken on the in form JABBAR. He shaped with promise off this mark on his last Flat start at Clonmel and he confirmed his well-being with an impressive maiden hurdle win at Galway earlier this week. He has a nice draw, he’s groundversatile and Keithen Kennedy was on board for his last Flat win at Killarney. [Dave Stephens] Source: Racing Post

Several recent graduates of the pony racing circuit are involved here. Nicola Burns is a very accomplished young rider and may prevail on NUNC EST BIBENDUM who came from off the pace to take third in an amateur race at the Curragh last time and may turn the tables on runner-up Bear Profit. RACE VERDICT
Quite an open look to this handicap. Top-weight Old Faithful has to be greatly respected back to probably his optimum trip and dropped in grade. Thor’s Hammer is another to be suited by the return to this trip, while Seti is interesting on his belated seasonal return for a yard going well. However, it could pay to side with LORD CHURCH, returning from a break with likely more improvement in him. [Alan Hewison]
