Managers’ Welcome

On behalf of the board and team here at Naas Racecourse, you are welcome to the first of our two-day Flat Season Finale – Oktoberfest. At the end of another brilliant summer of flat racing here at Naas Racecourse, we can look back at a few months of top-class horses, jockeys and trainers in action throughout the season. From celebrating our 100th Anniversary on Royal Ascot Trials Day to our hugely successful Wednesday BBQ & Music evenings, it has been another great year to look back on.

We end the season on a high with any number of quality contests in prospect over the weekend. One of our highlights today is the Listed RFL Steels Stakes and we are hugely appreciative of the support from Rory Larkin and his team. RFL Steels is one of the largest and most reliable steel stockholders in Ireland, with over 30 years of experience in the industry. They are also our neighbours with their offices based right next to the 6f start, fittingly where their sponsored race will jump off from.

Punctual Print, located in Blessington, have steadily grown to become a full-service print, signage, design and branding company and we are delighted to welcome them to Naas today as sponsors of the maiden. You will know their work well from some of their wonderful print jobs around the course.

It is great to have the Tote back supporting us today and our racegoers can avail of their services throughout the racecourse today but primarily in the Tote Hall under the grandstand. While the Tote have been long-term supporters of Naas we are delighted to welcome Rent-A-Tent Marquees to Naas Racecourse today as a sponsor for the first time. The team at Rent-A-Tent Marquees supplies the marquees to Naas Racecourse throughout the year and we are very grateful for the support from Chris and his team. We hope everyone in Chris’s marquee celebrating Oktoberfest today has a wonderful day out.

Finally, we continue to give our thanks to the Irish EBF for their generous support today and throughout the year. Sponsors of today’s opening maiden as well as the historic Birdcatcher Nursery Handicap, a race that is synonymous with Naas Racecourse.

A big welcome to all our racegoers today, including those enjoying the hospitality of Lily & Wild in our Panoramic Restaurant and all those enjoying the Oktoberfest games and fun in our parade ring Marquee. We hope everyone enjoys their day. As well as our pre-booked hospitality, our caterers, Lily & Wild, have lots of tasty options for racegoers to enjoy including a BBQ in the enclosure, the Post Restaurant, in the Coffee Shop in the grandstand while we have a full bar option in the Circle Lounge.

We are back racing tomorrow for the final flat fixture of the season but we are already looking forward to the jumps season kicking off here on November 10th for our “Return of The Jumps” fixture. Our hospitality options are fully booked on the day but we have lots of ticket options available on www.naasracecourse.com.

Best Wishes

Today’s Sponsors

The Chairman, Directors and Management of Naas Racecourse would like to thank today’s sponsors:

At every meeting there are specially qualified equine veterinary surgeons on duty to look after the well-being of all the horses racing. There is a vet in attendance at the start of each race who follows the horses throughout the race and is quickly on hand if a casualty occurs. It is normal procedure to erect screens around any horse receiving veterinary treatment. This allows the veterinary surgeon some privacy to fully assess the horses’ injuries and racegoers should not assume the worst if screens are erected around an injured horse. The Blue Cross ambulance is always present to transport the horse back to the stable yard for further treatment if necessary. A secondary veterinary surgeon is in attendance in the stable yard to assess and treat any horse requiring such attention post race. The horses’ welfare is always our priority

RACE VERDICT

Ocean Manifest needs to bounce back from a poor run at Leopardstown but a repeat of his debut run at Fairyhouse would see him bang there. However, if UNCANNY is fit and well after a break, she has the best form in the book and will take all the beating in an ordinary maiden. Others to note are Sacred Oath who is a big player if she can handle the drop in trip, and Auburn Avenue, who will be doing her best work at the finish. [Adrian Wall]

RACE VERDICT

SMOKE THEM OUT

A wide-open nursery. The vote goes to the lightly raced LAST ENCORE, who was well on top at the line when winning on his handicap debut at Navan in August. Tommy McJohn defied top weight last time and could improve for the step up to 6f, while Smoke Them Out is weighted to stay in front of the reopposing Kodilicious once again. Don’t rule out a big run from likely outsider I’ll Be Handy. [Adrian Wall]

RACE VERDICT

A case can be made for many of these but STAYSOUND SUSIE can follow up her impressive Cork victory for the Slatterys. The Eddie Lynam pair Heavenly Power and Collective Power both have solid claims, while Jon Riggens never runs a bad race at this track and could produce an improved performance. Apache Outlaw and Transcendental have place possibilities. [Adrian Wall]

RACE VERDICT

If SARA VALENTINA can overcome slight question marks with regard to the ground if it’s on the good side, she can get her head back in front. Watch the market as a gamble on last year’s winner Facethepuckout is possible back down to his last winning mark with Colin Keane booked, while I Am Superman adds a touch of class to the race and will be a major threat if anywhere near his best. Bid For Chester, No More Porter and Rahmi have place possibilities. [Adrian Wall] Source: Racing Post

RACE VERDICT

Jim Bolger’s well-bred filly FINSCEAL LUAS has a good opportunity to step up a place following a Listowel second behind a useful colt from the Aidan O’Brien stable. Whisperinthewind probably rates a bigger threat than Final Curtain who was 4l behind the selection at Listowel. [Alan Sweetman]
