A Legacy of Racing: The Ardilaun Hotel and the Galway Races
In August 1869 the first race meeting was held at Ballybrit. One of the Stewards was Henry S. Persse, who resided at what is now The Ardilaun Hotel. One can assume that many of the discussions which led to that first race meeting took place in the drawing rooms of the Ardilaun.
Celebrating 62 years in business, The Ardilaun Hotel is a successful, family owned, indigenous Galway company and are very pleas ed to again sponsor the running of the Oyster Listed Stakes. With it's long association with the Galway Races, the hotel has strengthened in recent years as a rendezvous venue for racegoers. In recent years the winners have gone on to win prestigious races at Longchamps and Royal Ascot. We trust that today's winner will be equally successful.
