Rabaab is a short-necked lute carved out of a single piece of wood, the rabaab is known as the “lion of instruments” in Afghanistan where it is one of two principal instruments that form a major component of Afghan classical music and, outside of the country, it is often referred to as the “Kabuli rabaab” (also widely acknowledged as the parent of the Indian sarod) to distinguish it from other versions of the instrument notably the one played in North India.
