Intro to Human Services provides an overview of the human services field, exploring the roles, responsibilities, and skills necessary to support individuals and communities in need. The course introduces students to the history, values, and ethical principles of human services, as well as the various populations served, such as children, families, the elderly, and people with disabilities. Students examine the diverse settings in which human services professionals work including schools, health care organizations, and government agencies and learn about interviewing, case management, and advocacy. Emphasis is placed on understanding social problems, cultural diversity, and strategies for effective communication and intervention.
