Uncommon Sense Why You Should Buy My Bananas
As someone smart like Newton once said, when you charge something you use energy. Also, radioactive elements are too big and unstable. Also, when you break big unstable stuff down you get energy. And it comes full circle, the big unstable elements are taken from your banana. As many people know, bananas have a lot of potassium, and for so many atoms of potassium there is one atom of radioactive potassium. Radioactivity is bad. It gives you brain damage and makes you die. Everyone (under debate) likes chocolate, and you cannot have chocolate when you are dead. Therefore, normal bananas are bad. But, as an avid banana eater myself (4-5 a day), I would never in my right mind stop eating bananas. But they are big, radioactive, and unstable. So I fixed them. Our new bananas are revolutionary. Our new bananas are amazing. Our new bananas are (probably) not going to kill you. So now you can buy them. Basically, our new bananas are not radioactive. How do you do that, you might ask? Basic logic. The first step in our patented procedure is to get one atom of uranium-235 and throw it into the batch of our world famous bananas. Stupid, some say, to put radioactivity in food, especially the lethal dose of one atom. But, then the mechanism will shoot the whole batch of bananas with my high tech neutron gun, and make the atom of uranium-235 to enter a stage of fission. This makes a release of energy so great that it may or may not destroy all of the original bananas, and it starts a chain reaction, releasing crazy amounts of energy in a totally not safe, or government approved way. And, as a side effect, it sends all the radioactivity in the potassium into a very unstable state of fission, and, destroys it all. So, at the end, you have some NOT radioactive, and also delicious bananas, or at least the idea of them, to munch on as a nice snack at the end of the day‌ Or at least imagine yourself indulging in this delicious food. That is why you should buy our bananas.’ Only $2.99 per banana (or what was previously a banana) at your closest banana distributary. Supplies are limited after DNDO, NRC and NISA shut down our reactor and destroyed half our stock. INTRO Hi… Remember me? I feel like it’s been so long… any wayyyyyy… I know that you missed me. So I’m back! I kinda forgot about what I was talking about last document so I’m just gonna start with something random like… triangles! I just love me some triangles…
TRIANGLES So they are a shape… I think? And I know that they have two sides (two and triangle both start with T, that’s an easy way to remember it kids…). They have a hyperboles (or is it hypotenuses?) and they love to eat boats. That’s why the Bermuda Triangle is always angry.

The Fiery Winds by Lana Swindle The forest seemed to be sleeping, quietly, sighing softly with a light breeze as the wind wound through the trees, the shine of the bright sun as it illuminated the branches, and the quiet murmur of the brook as tumbled down its rocky slope. And as the sun continued to rise into the sky, animals poked their furry noses out, creeping out of their hiding and beginning to go about their business, getting ready for the day to come. Yet the pleasantry of this forest paused in its tracks as a fearsome figure emerged from the branches, dragging with him a fairly large canvas and paint tools. Animals jumped out of his way and birds hid back in their nests, not daring to chirp. The man chuckled lightly as a bird jumped onto his shoulder, tweeted with alarm, and leapt back into the trees, flying away as fast as it could. The wind, on the other hand, twirled around him as he trudged up a hill, begging for him to play with it. He laughed again. “Not today,” he said, calmly but firmly. “I hung out with you yesterday.” The man sat down and opened his paints, taking a deep breath in the cool air. Fortunately for him, the sun was at a perfect angle, so it shone through the trees, illuminating the leaves, making them seem as though they were tiny lanterns. The birds appeared to have calmed down, now flying into the open air, chattering excitedly with one another. Plants seemed to be growing right before his eyes, stretching towards the sun patiently. He sighed. It was just so beautiful. Silence slowly enveloped the forest as the man began to paint, his soft strokes gently flowing down the canvas. In a matter of moments, a scene appeared. A forest. Animals hidden in the undergrowth. A clear, blue sky. And wind. The wind was probably the most astonishing feature, for it softly swirled across the canvas, coiling and uncoiling, dancing through the painted sky. Feathered strokes branched off in some places, creating the illusion of movement. Just as the sun started to set, the man sat back, satisfied at his accomplishment. The painting was finished and sat in all its glory, blues and greens and yellows and browns shining in the light. "In the light of the sky, only the wind shall come," he sang softly. "In the light of the moon, the shadows have won. But dancing through the air on this planet, is a wonder to behold. Wind, the shapeshifter of old." The wind nudged him playfully, as if asking him to go on. "Wind, the shapeshifter of old. The shadows be jealous, vengeance on their list. But wind cannot be caught, it dissolves like mist. It trails through the sky, gracefully twirling. Wind, the shapeshifter of old." 8
The man stood up, his canvas now fully dry. He packed up his paints, making sure each one was screwed tightly. As he grabbed his stuff, the sun sank past the horizon, casting faint orange rays across the land."I might do a sunrise painting next," the man commented to the wind. The wind swirled up around him, as if to agree. He journeyed through the forest and walked home, exhausted. Putting away his painting supplies, the man drowsily hung up the elegant painting, muscles begging him to lie down. ✩✩✩ Smoke wound quietly into the quaint, wooden house, wreathing in loops around the peacefully sleeping man. It delved into his mouth and down his throat, crushing the oxygen that had just filled them. His eyes shot open, only to find ash dart into them. Coughing, the man stood up, stumbling toward the door. As he collapsed outside, the man glanced at his house. It was a nightmare. It had to be. Fire swarmed the trees and the plants, and the man stumbled in shock as he spotted the sweet animals ducking and skittering away from the flames that sparked from the forest fire. He had to save them. “To the hills!” the man shrieked, flailing his arms and pointing his fingers. “That way! That way!” But of course, they didn’t hear him, and even if they did, they didn’t understand him. They were consumed with panic, trying to flee the forest and get to safer grounds. Blindly, they ran, fueled only with fear. He gazed up to black sky, staring hard at the faint stars. "Wind," he whispered. "Help me..." As if waiting for his call, the wind roared into action. It blew the fire away with all its might, casting away the orange tongues that resisted. The man turned to the animals, watching them with pity as they tried to flee. "Follow me!" He commanded, turning to some undergrowth. He cut it back, again and again, until a path had formed. Animals charged past him and through the path, escaping to the cool hillside where fire dare not reach. As he leapt after them, a clever vine snagged his hand. He fell with a muffled thump to the hot ground, nose pressed against leaf litter. The man gasped and crawled forwards as the vine trapping his leg caught ablaze. Shaking free, he stumbled up and ran blindly like the animals he had saved, desperately trying to get out of the forest. He collapsed on the grass, panting heavily as animals crowded around him. The wind dipped down and coiled around him comfortably, just as he whispered, "I would dance through the fire to save you, over and over again."

Current Current Eventsby Samuel Whitley Events
Midterm Elections: There are two main types of national elections, Midterms and Presidential elections. As their names suggest, presidential elections are where the president is elected as well as many other politicians across the country and the midterms are elections that happen in the middle of a president’s term and elect congressman, congresswomen and other politicians at the state and national level. Due to Mr. Trump’s policies, Democrats going in to the election were very angry, and very fired up, to things that are known to increase voter turnout. Thus it was expected that democrats would do very favorably during the election. These expectations were for the most part true, Democrats flipped 39 seats in the house more than the 23 that they needed to wrest control from the republicans, they flipped 7 governor’s mansions which will allow them to better redistrict in their favor, but they lost two seats in the senate meaning that republicans now firmly control the chamber and there is now little the democrats can do to block any of Mr. Trump’s nominees for various judicial and executive positions such as the Supreme Court or the Department of Justice the administration that controls the Mueller Investigations currently investigating the Trump campaign for collusion in the 2016 elections.
Mueller Filings: On Friday, Special Counsel Robert Mueller, the man in charge of investigating the president for alleged charges of collusion with Russia, obstruction of justice and breaking campaign finance laws, released another filing which hinted that Mr. Trump probably knew that his then personal lawyer was illegally paying off multiple women to prevent them from telling the public that they had affairs with the president during the campaign. This is illegal because Mr. Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen uses his Trump Organization email to coordinate the hush money and probably did the final deed with it as well and that he was reimbursed through the Trump Organization as well then that would constitute and excessive corporate donation to a campaign which is in violation of campaign finance law and is a prosecutable offense. It also suggested that the Trump Organization and thus Trump himself were actively trying to create a Trump 10 Tower Moscow well after they said that they had dropped the project. Which could support both the collusion argument and also be in violation of campaign finance laws
Current Events Trade and China: Look at that new toy or gadget you just bought, chances are it says “Made in China” this is due to the fact that China produces an immense amount of consumer goods, so many in fact that they have taken away many American jobs in manufacturing and other jobs. This phenomenon has caused many people who may have benefited from these manufacturing jobs to grow resentful of China. Trump used this resentment to its fullest potential and campaigned repetitively on placing many tariffs on Chinese goods which could in theory, though not in practice, bring back American jobs. Well Trump made good on that one of his promises and placed heavy tariffs on both China and pretty much everywhere else including countries that provide no threat to American manufacturing such as Canada and the EU. China then placed its own tariffs upon the U.S. entering the two into a trade war. This trade war has contrary to Mr Trump’s goal actually hurt American jobs. Companies in the U.S. are now unable to utilize cheaper Chinese materials, which increased their overhead costs, forced them to lay off workers and it increased the price of many consumer goods, for example the average car is now $250 dollars higher than it was before the trade war. This has also sent the stock market into a frenzy as it is now fluctuating in a manner that would suggest a recession in the near future. China and America just reached a deal to end the trade war, for 90 days but with Mr. Trump’s impulsive policy who can know whether it will last. California Fires: California recently experienced a multi-year drought that harmed its ecosystem in many ways, amongst them it dried up all of the timber and leaves in the state making it ripe for fires. This huge amount of dry timber combined with strong winds created the perfect conditions for fires. Amongst these fires was the Camp Fire which quickly became the most deadly in the states history. It completely destroyed the town of Paradise and other communities nearby as well as killing 85 people with 3 more still unaccounted for. The fire is believed to have been caused by failure to comply with regulation by Pacific Gas and Electric Company which operates in the area. The fire though caused by this company was allowed to grow to such an immense and deadly size is simple. Climate Change allowed for that drought to happen and were it not for it none of this deadly ordeal would have happened.

Dear Scribbles, I love my friend so much and I would never want her to be sad. She always confides in me and tells me her troubles. The problem is, she always tells me during class. This is bad because we get in trouble for talking and being distracted. It is hard to tell her that she cannot talk to me during class because she does not listen or gets really sad. What do I do? -Distracted
Dear Distracted,
It’s good to see that you two have a strong friendship. However, it’s also important to pay attention in class. Instead of trying to stop her from telling you during class, bring up the topic during another time. Don’t wait for her to tell you about her troubles. Instead, bring up the topic during a time like lunch or after school. If you choose to do so during lunch, sit with your friend in a place away from other people, and then ask her about her troubles. Don’t worry about people overhearing you: they’re too busy eating and talking. If you two really don’t want to talk about it during lunch, you can try after school. If you have her number, you can text her and discuss her problems. You can also arrange a time with her to meet in a place such as the library. In either scenario, show that you don’t want to be nosy; you just want to help. You can help solve her problem, but understand that some problems simply can’t be solved. If she is able to. You can also try to encourage her to submit her problem to Dear Scribbles. We promise we won’t share any information! Good luck!

Place 4 noodles side by side into the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking pan; top with a layer of the tomato-basil sauce, a layer of ground beef mixture, and a layer of the cottage cheese mixture. Repeat layers twice more, ending with a layer of sauce; sprinkle top with the mozzarella cheese. Cover the dish with aluminum foil. Bake in the preheated oven until the casserole is bubbling and the cheese has melted, about 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake until cheese has begun to brown, about 10 more minutes. Allow to stand at least 10 minutes before serving.

Washington D.C. Project
and
After returning from their amazing trip to Washington in October, the eighth graders discovered that they would have to make a project based on their experience. This would entail researching a monument or memorial that already exists in Washington, also creating an original idea for a monument or memorial of their own. The projects were in the Commons and Learning Commons.
6th and 7th graders: You’ll be doing this project one day!
Here are some tips and tricks:
This is a group project. Make sure everyone does their part! Be quick! Choosing your existing monuments is on a first come first serve basis. ● You have six days to work on this, and time goes by quickly. (You have five hours of class time total to work on this.) Use every minute of your time! ● When you are designing your own monument, choose a topic based on important events in American history. ● Don’t just use cardboard to build your monument! Be creative! When the time comes, do your best and get a good grade! This project is a big grade for the first marking period. ● ●

Chinese Section New Year's Eve and Spring Festival
By Emily Qian 8th Grader
New Year’s Eve, also known as “chuxi”, is the last night of the Lunar December. It is a festival of retiring the old, welcoming the new ones, and renewing all manifestations. The word "除" in "除 夕" means "removal and alternation". “除夕” means "the age ends." People must remove the old ones, and the old ones will be replaced by the new ones. New Year's Eve is one of the most important traditional festivals in China. Its origins have a legend that is widely spreaded: in ancient times, there was a fierce monster called the eve (year). Every time at the end of the year, it came out to harm people. Later, people knew that eve (year) is most fear of color red and loud and harsh sound, so in the 30th night, every household posted a red spring festival couplet, set off firecrackers, fireworks, to drive away the New Year's Eve (year) beast, in order to achieve a new year of peace. This custom has been passed down from that time, and it is called New Year's Eve at the end of the 30th. On New Year's Eve, there is a variety of customs since ancient times, and they have been passed down to the present. It is the traditional custom of the New Year to post Spring Festival couplets, the good fortune character of “fu”, New Year paintings, lanterns, do ancestral ceremonies, eat the New Year’s Eve Supper, give children the Lucky Money, light fireworks and firecrackers, and stay up late or all night on New Year's Eve. Around New Year's Eve, it is the most lively time of the year. The family gathers together and enjoys it, and wishes everyone in the family good luck, everything goes well, and all good for the coming year.

Stupid Questions Answered Intelligently By Alexander Kopaliani, James Labas and Jieruei Chang With from the book What If? What ifinspiraton someone was to make
a jetpack out of fire extinguishers? Would it be able to take off? By James Labas That would be a no, sadly. If it was a yes that would be awesome, but the laws of rocket science and physics forbid this. There’s something in rocket science called the thrust to weight ratio, which is the ratio of the amount of force (thrust) the rocket produces in relation to its weight. If the thrust is more than the weight, it flies. If not, you look pretty stupid. Fire extinguishers have a thrust to weight ratio of negative 3 or 4. “But if we were to open the nozzle more, then will it work?” No, it wouldn’t, you’d get rid of a large portion of the thrust since it’s now more spread out. “What if we added more foam?” Probably not. I’ll have to look more into this, but most likely no. A very important law in rocket science is that the fuel has to be able to carry its own weight, and more fuel means more weight. Also, the thrust comes from the foam. Inside the fire extinguisher is compressed foam, meaning it’s more dense. For rockets and rocket fuel, it works because the fuel is highly combustible, which means it can easily explode. But ultimately, the answer is no. But you can still try it. and if you do, call me so I can watch.
What if the oceans all dried By Alexander up? Kopaliani
Well, to have the oceans dry up, the temperature of earth would increase dramatically. Most of the animals on earth will die because of this extremely hot air, which. We would lose all food resources on earth, which would mean that there would be a world wide famine, killing nearly 98.75% of humans living on earth, and killing more people once all food reserves get really low. The sun would then pierce a hole in the atmosphere, having all the oxygen from earth seep out of the oxygen, with all the waters from the ocean to go up with it, making the earth the face of Venus with absolutely no life, and no humans, or oceans, or trees, or anything else. Please send your stupid questions so we can answer them!
