FIFA History

● FIFA World Cup was started on May 21, 1904 by the countries Belgium, Denmark, France, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland

● FIFA is the reason soccer is the world’s most popular sport today

● This year’s World Cup was hosted by Qatar, the first country in the Middle East to host the competition, although there is a lot of controversy around it (was there bribery involved, or not?)

● 8 different countries have won the World Cup! They are Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Italy, Uruguay, France, England, and Spain

● There has never been a tournament hosted in Southeast Asia or Oceania (Australia and the island countries around it)
