Year 11 Roll Call

Year 11 Roll Call

The College had another exceptional year, with several top-tier knockout finishes and a second State Championship in three years for the Open Girls team. Year 11 student Lachlan Brook made his professional debut for Adelaide United in the Asian Champions League, while fellow Year 11 student Isabelle Stimson made the State Schoolgirls team, Year 7 student Ryan White made the State Primary team, and several students were included in Futsal State teams.

First XI

The First XI was made up of an older and more experienced group with 11 Year 12’s in the squad this year. Some of these players have been in the squad for the last three seasons. They have continued to improve throughout the season and played an impressive style of play against some quality opposition. Our games were held on Wednesday nights at the Parks this year to alleviate the clash with club soccer. With the majority of the team playing U18’s or Reserves for their clubs, this worked well. We made the Semi Finals this year but unfortunately lost 2-1 to St Peters and were unable to progress further. At the end of Term 3, the current Trinity College First XI Soccer team took on an Old Scholars select team to finish the season and lead into the Presentation night. The game finished as a 4-2 win to the very experienced Old Scholars. Awards: Outstanding Attitude – Zac Vannucci; Most Improved Player – Ben Woollard; Players’ Player – Bradley Ballentine; Most Consistent Performer – Bradley Ballentine.

Open Girls

Trinity College had a bye for the first round of the State Knockout competition and had to wait until Term 3 to play their first game. Round 2 was held at Trinity College against Nuriootpa High School. A massive 5-0 win in Round 2 was an amazing feeling for the team, and Round 3 was only around the corner. Round 3 was once again held at Trinity but this time we faced a tougher opponent in Roma Mitchell (who we have never played before). Despite the tough opposition, the girls controlled the match and went on to win 2-0 allowing Trinity to progress to the State Knockout finals. This year, the finals were played at Elite Systems Football Centre on synthetic pitches. This was the first time for a few of our girls to play on this type of pitch. The semi-final was played against Mercedes College and Trinity were successful in winning this match 3-1. Nazareth had won their semi-final in the first match, we were nervous coming up against them for the final. Going into half time the score was 0-0. Straight from the change of halves the girls lifted their intensity and were rewarded with a goal from Stephanie Ielasi (Yr8). Working hard in the middle was Katelyn Dommerdich who all day controlled the match for us. Due to the team’s hard work we were rewarded with another goal. In the dying minutes we were unlucky to concede a goal, luckily though we hung on and won 2-1. Congratulations to all the girls involved. We are proud to once again be the State Champions for Open Girls Soccer. Award Winners: Most Consistent Performer – Tarlee Meaney, Outstanding Attitude – Katelyn Dommerdich, Most Improved – Jess Ridenti, Players’ Player – Isabelle Stimson.

Second XI

The quality of play achieved at times by the Second XI this season proved to be of a higher quality than Trinity College had seen for many years. A slick possession game with high quality movement and decision-making meant that a young group of players taught a footballing lesson to other Colleges’ first teams. After this opening game, where Westminster College First XI was defeated 8-1 in a clinical display, availability became a problem. Call-ups to the First XI, injuries, other sporting commitments and illness led to an extended squad being required for the season, and on occasions the team was shorthanded. While this was unfortunate, it gave an opportunity for several younger players to experience a higher level, which will do wonders for their development. A record of five wins, three defeats and one draw does not necessarily reflect the progress made. A team containing seven Year 9s was leading Scotch College First XI until shortly before the end when the home team was able to muscle its way back into the game. The majority of this team will be the First XI in 2018, so the experience gained will be very useful.

Third XI

The season for the Third XI could be summed up quite simply as ‘if only’ with many games certainly there for the taking, but unfortunately only being able to field a full team on the rare occasion it was difficult to demonstrate how competitive we could’ve been. On a positive note, the commitment shown by the players who turned up on a regular basis was really impressive. Any time a player was asked to play a position that was outside of their comfort zone it was done with a positive attitude and a knowledge that it was for the team benefit. I am very grateful to all the players that made the commitment all season and also to the players who came in to help throughout the season to allow us to have a few victories.

Mr Simon Coad Coach

10A

This season we entered a group of keen soccer players from across the Year 10 cohort, looking to play soccer for the college in more of a social setting. We remained competitive and had some well fought out matches. We had several contributors up front, and the majority of our goals scored came from assists, and team efforts, which was pleasing to see. This season we focussed on possession football, and using our passing to our advantage, rather than bombing the ball forward and hoping for the best. I saw great improvements with our ball control throughout the season, and we communicated well as a team. Award Winners: The Players’ Player – Jordan Schumacher, Outstanding Attitude Award – Liam Stafford, Most Consistent Award – Alex Richter, Most Improved – William Norinh.

Mr Trent Stafford Coach

8/9A

The 8/9A team had a productive season, which saw them develop into a competent ball playing team. The boys improved their ability to maintain possession in all areas of the field, play out from the back, and improve their positional structure when in and out of possession. Key performances at home against Blackfriars, St Michael’s and St Ignatius were highlights of our season, where we controlled the games and were most successful in achieving our objectives. Another highlight was the opportunity for many of our boys to be promoted a year level. Many boys had the opportunity to play Second XI and the Year 7’s who moved up did a sensational job. This can only be good for player development and shows we are in a great position for the future.

Mr Ben Cockerill Coach

8/9B

With little time to get to know one another, our first match early in Term 3 against Pulteney GS showed we could find space and strike accurately. Winning comfortably and conceding only one goal in our first start gave everyone confidence. The following three matches we faced much tougher competition and struggled to hit the target under defensive pressure. With losses to Blackfriars, Gleeson and St Ignatius College we were beginning to flounder until the welcome addition of some more experienced players (Jack and Calvin Bui) who strengthened our midfield and defence further. The remaining matches against St Paul’s, Pulteney GS and Blackfriars’ College displayed the winning form and intelligent play that was missing mid-season.

Mr Paul Pearce Coach

Year 8/9C

The season started off to a rough start with a few losses and a few close games. Halfway through the year we got ourselves a win and from there the winning streak did not end. Our team consisted of three girls, South boys and North Year 9’s. Award Winners: Top Scorer and Best Attitude – Christopher Hancock, Best Defender and Best Player – Angus Heath, Most Improved – Lachlan Harris; Final Award – Bailey Elsom, Players’ Player – Sian Nielsen.

Mr Jono Gill Coach

6/7A

A superb season for the 6/7A team. This team was highly-skilled and very motivated. Camaraderie was excellent and it was very pleasing to see the group grow together throughout the year. We were undefeated throughout the SAAS season, losing only a post-season game to Rostrevor, whose path we didn’t cross during the regular season. Awards: Outstanding Attitude - Lee Argen, Most Consistent Performer - Ngeth Agany, Players’ Player - Taj Claridge, Most Improved Player - Kyle McFall.

Mr Davin Caruso Coach

6/7 Red

The 6/7 Trinity Red Team had a wonderful season in 2017, focusing on developing their gameplay, trying out new positions and having fun at the same time. We had some really fast attackers in Noah, Liam, Thomas, Atem and Felix who continually bamboozled opponents. Our midfield continued to grow in confidence throughout the season and included Gak, Charlotte, Daniel and one of our strongest players and regular captain Matthew Nudo. At the back we had our most consistent player Shaun combining with our most improved player, Ashlin. In goals we had a number of people step up including Liam who was a real help to the team. The most memorable moment throughout the season was our amazing comeback match against CBC, where we managed a draw after being five nil down at half time.
