2017 has been an exciting year with many wonderful memories shared. The annual Playford versus Jamieson House Bowling Night was a fabulous family evening and a positive start to the year. It was wonderful to have such a large crowd in attendance, which included a few Old Scholars. Playford House scored highest and won the trophy. For the second year, Playford House held a Kyton’s Bakery hot cross bun fundraiser. A total of $370 was raised, with part proceeds going to The Quickest Warmth project. Toy blankets and fabric bags were constructed on Community Service Day to further support this South Australian charity organisation. Pastoral Care lessons ranged from discovering more about ourselves through our top character strengths, co-operative team games and Inter-House challenges. House spirit and participation was impressive during rehearsals for the Smedley Music Shield. It was a fun time where many students challenge themselves by leading choreography and making lightning bolt props. Sports Day, Cross Country and Swimming Carnival were all memorable events where students worked together across Years 7-10 to support and encourage one another. There were a number of notable awards for individual students as well as new records set. At Sports Day there were a number of students who came in the top 10 for their age group. Placing in the top three were; Stephanie Symons placed second in U/12 Girls, Juliette Parisi placed third in U/13 Girls, Jodie Blake placed third in U/16 Girls. In Cross Country, Emmerson Filsell and Stephanie Symons placed first and second respectively in U/12 Girls, Rhys Thompson placed second in the U/14 Boys and Jodie Blake placed second in the U/16 Girls. Breaking two records at the Swimming Carnival, Nedene Paciola placed first in U/15 Girls while Nicholas Lehman also placed first in U/16 Boys. Despite a low attendance, Playford House were proud winners of the Team Games Shield. This year’s annual House dinner was combined with Jamieson House and was held at the College Pavilion. The venue was exceptional and the student’s speeches were commendable. I would like to thank Mr Simon Ostrowski for his positive contribution to Playford House over the past two years and Mrs Carolyn O’Brien for her weekly Pastoral Care lessons.
