2017 Captains’ Reflection

Reflecting on a year can be a daunting and confusing task, especially in the hectic and fast paced final year of schooling. However, we comfortably look back on 2017, and our Trinity College experience as a whole with a great sense of pride and satisfaction. It would be a lie to say we weren’t anxious at the start of the year, being the first Year 12 College Captains carried a perceived extra responsibility and expectation to succeed. However, with fantastic support from our two Vice-Captains Jess Brind and Vinh Nguyen, all twenty-two Prefects and of course Principal, Mr Michael Holmes and Head of the College, Mr Nick Hately, we were able to oversee and participate in many activities and successful events throughout 2017. The Prefect group hit the ground running, enthusiastic to influence the Trinity community in a positive way from the year’s commencement, right to its close. We are both immensely proud of their efforts this year, with multiple fundraisers and events running efficiently and successfully. The highlight of these was of course the Be Brave and Shave fundraiser. This event, led by Prefect Brandon Cashmore raised over $2,400 for the Leukemia Foundation and saw a number of Prefects shaving their head, including teachers Mr Holmes and Mr Carlin. Following the trend set by previous years, the class of 2017 flourished academically, with many students taking their place in Club 90 and receiving merits for their efforts in Stage 2 SACE. A special mention should of course go to Vice-Captain Vinh, with his outstanding perfect score of 99.95. We would like to congratulate all graduates on their results. The end of Year 12 is simultaneously the end and yet the beginning as well, we have transitioned from school leavers to members of society, onto our next respective chapters. It doesn’t matter if the next chapter is a gap year, Uni or a trade, there will be times that will challenge your resolve and strength, however through the perseverance you have gained through your journey at Trinity, have confidence you will succeed. Once again thank you, and as 2017 Captains we wish all students the best.
