Quiport is committed to position Quito as an important connection point in South America. The potential to develop the air connectivity offered by the Mariscal Sucre Airport is very important and has allowed us to achieve significant growth in this area. This is also possible thanks to an efficient route development strategy based on understanding the needs of airlines and showing them the connectivity opportunities for Quito and Ecuador. Since February 2013, the date on which we started the operation of the new airport, until March 2020, we had opened 10 new non-stop international destinations and attracted 9 additional airlines to serve the connectivity of the city and country. Our connectivity strategy includes: • Partnering with key stakeholders and the government to promote route development. • Working with each airline to develop business cases to analyze potential new routes. • Providing marketing support to promote any new frequency or route with a wide variety of communication and promotional platforms that may include airport events, magazine ads, in airport advertising and social networks.

Airport management during covid 19

2020 has had an unprecedented impact in the aviation industry as most airports around the globe were closed for several months. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the route development strategy has focused on resuming connectivity of the Quito Airport as the main gateway to Ecuador; hence an important engine for the reactivation of tourism in the country. Quito Airport was the first in the region to reassume commercial operations as of June 1, 2020 after implementing several processes and biosafety measures to ensure passengers, users and employees were safe. Quiport has determined a plan for the recovery of air services that has three main pillars: • Strengthening of recovered routes and increase in capacity and cargo. • Recovery of pre-covid mature routes. • New opportunities for routes and frequencies / low cost airlines.

Testimonies

Not only that Quito-Ecuador was the pioneer country in restarting operations. Once we adapted to the entire process that was created in Ecuador’s airports, it was used as a model to follow in the rest of the region. Quiport in particular gave us extraordinary support. We were learning, we were testing things and thanks to the support of Quiport, with all the compliance with protocols, we were able to use this entire process and obviously it served as a model for the rest of the airports in the region.
