tanley Handy Sr. was born on October 6, 1929, in Batesville Mississippi to Silas and Edna Mae Handy. Stanley was the second eldest of six children. His parents, along with his beloved wife; Dotsie Lee Handy, Son; Charles Handy, his brothers: Clinton Handy, Nathaniel Handy, and Edward Handy preceded him in death. Stanley obtained his High School Diploma while in Spring Hill Mississippi.

Stanley was a Farm Hand, up until he joined the United States Army in 1952, in which he served as a combat engineer in the Korean War. While in the military, he acquired mechanical engineering skills, and was trained in several other areas. Upon completion of his military duty, and shortly after, he met and married Dotsie Lee Johnson, whom was affectionately known as “Tute”. Stanley and Dotsie Lee Johnson were joined in martial matrimony on December 24, 1954.

Stanley and Dotsie Lee Handy shared and enjoyed over Fifty years of matrimony. To this union five children were born: James Lee Handy, Dorothy Handy-Taylor, Stanley Handy Jr., Charles Handy, and Tyrone Handy. In 1960, Stanley relocated his family to Chicago. At that time, Stanley accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior.

Stanley was a welder by trade, and worked for twenty-Seven years at Chicago Bridge and Iron Company, where he later retired in 1995. Stanley was affectionately known as “Jack” by those whom knew and loved him dearly. No matter the task at hand, Stanley was always there to lend a loving hand. Stanley supported his family until his final breath. Stanley was not only a great mechanic (best in the neighborhood); Most Importantly, he was the patriarch of his family.

Stanley was a loving devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a true provider, and he loved his family deeply and unconditionally. His life was a reflection of a selfless man, and he even surpassed that. He had a kindred spirit, and heart of gold. His character spoke for itself, he led with integrity, dignity and respect. Stanley was adored by many, because they knew the type of man he was; not a bad bone in his body. If someone needed their car looked at, even after coming home from a long day work, they could always count on “Mr. Handy” to diagnose the problem. He was truly a “Jack” of all trades.

On November 17, 2020, Stanley transitioned peacefully at his home his baby girl Dorothy Handy-Taylor by his side. Stanley leaves to cherish his memories, one brother: Silas “June” Handy Jr. (Patricia), one sister: Ruthie “Sister” Ann Handy; five children: James Lee Handy; Dorothy Handy-Taylor; Stanley Handy Jr.; Tyanna “Ann” Williams; and his baby boy Tyrone (Mary) Handy. Seven grandchildren: Demetris (Michelle) Handy, Consuela Handy (Cherconn), Carmelita Handy, Chanice Nicole Hubbard, Charles Handy Jr., Dion Handy, Dorothea (Brandon) Johnson, Dorriane (Bernard) Bethel, Gabrielle Handy, Celeste Baker, Tyrone Handy Jr., and Justin Handy; Sixteen great grandchildren, and a host of cousins, extended family, friends, including Stanley good friend Willie Bobbit.

Daddy I’m gonna miss you so much. You fought a good fight and your job was well done. I was there till the end taking care of you.

So now you went home to a better place. I loved taking care of you, and being by your side. If I had to do it over I would. Daddy you are my hero. I just want to say Thank you daddy. You were the man. Mama wanted you with her so now you are at rest. I’ll see you later daddy. I will always love you and you will always be in my heart Rest on now daddy - Love Dorothy your one and only Daughter To my father, mentor, hero, and riding buddy to Mississippi whenever I would ask. It seems like only yesterday when had taken me to get my Driver’s License on my sixteenth birthday. I can’t forget the times we spent together, you and I, on the weekends when you went and worked on cars in the rain, sleet, and snow. I was there by your side until I got cold. You would have the car running so that I can keep warm.

How well do I remember when you went to Mr. Wright store on 63rd Street and purchased me a hockey stick, and I didn’t find out until Mr. Wright said, “Your Dad stopped by and paid for your hockey stick and blade”. I can remember the first bike you ever purchased for me; it was a ten speed that you brought from Major Motors on 63rd Street. When I came home from school, the bike was in the living room.

Dad, you was the best example of a father that ANY child could ever have. You provided for your family, and NOT one time Mama ever went without. We went on our annual vacations to Mississippi in August, and we all had new clothes each trip, even Demetris. You have always been a hard worker and, strong provider for your family.

There was NEVER a time where we didn’t have lights, gas, or food on the table to eat. You kept your family in the best possible way.

I can NEVER forget the times we spent together, and your legacy will forever live in our hearts and life! I Love you Daddy!

-Your Baby Boy, Tyrone To my Dad, You raised four boys, and one girl. I watched you over the years get up daily to work on cars in the daytime and go to CBI in the evening. You did a great job! I never told you that you were my hero. I wanted to follow in your footsteps, and I did just that. In 1974 I began working at Chicago Bridge & Iron (CBI). I was extremely proud to be your son. You were the best father anyone could ever ask for. For now I will carry you in my heart until we meet again.

- Love your Boys, James and Stan Daddy, You had a name for everybody and the name for me was Boop!! You made me into the man that I am today. You showed me love that was truly unconditional. I have so many memories of the good times that we shared. Thank you for molding me and protecting me. You are my hero, and because of you my choice of life for joining the Army as you did; we are forever battle buddies.

- Love “Boop” Demetris & Family Daddy, Words cannot express the hurt and pain I feel. I will miss our long conversations and laughter. I will miss calling you Every New Years Eve, to start the party line. You were everything to me, and more! You were there for me endlessly! You NEVER denied me of anything! You are the epitome of a real man. You taught me the importance of being independent. I am forever grateful to have had you by my side. It has been an honor to have you as a grandfather. You gave so much of your self to keep this family together.

My family chain is broken, and nothing will be the same without you. Although you left us peacefully, your love will forever remain. I pray our family will stay together knowing how much you cared. May your legacy be a reflection that you will always be there.

- Love Always and Forever, your Granddaughter Consuela Daddy, I am honored to have been your granddaughter for forty-four wonderful years. You were the epitome of an Amazing Man! When I was younger, I watched you get up early morning so that you can work to provide for your family, whom you loved dearly.

You made countless sacrifices. You made sure everyone was well taken care of, from your children, grandchildren, and even great grandchildren. I will forever cherish, and hold onto all the memories we shared, they will never die. I will NEVER forget going to your employer’s annual picnic, numerous road trips to Crenshaw Mississippi, getting on your nerves when I would rub your head, assisting you with your tools while you were working on cars, and many more memories to forever cherish.

Daddy, you set the bar so high, I am not sure if a man can enter my life without me comparing him based off the things you exemplified as a Husband, Father, and Grandfather.(True Story) We Thank You for being strong enough to continue on this earth, a little over fifteen additional years without the Love of Your Life; Dotsie Lee Handy. You and Momma rest well until we meet

again. You will be absent ONLY physically....We Love You Eternally!!!

-Your Granddaughter, Carmelita- Your Granddaughter, Carmelita Daddy, To have you as a grandfather has been an incredible journey. You are the epitome of a great man, father, husband, and provider.

The strength you had until the end is nothing more of a true soldier. Thank you for all your help, love, and laughs we shared. It has been an honor to be by your side in your most vulnerable moments. I will cherish all of our times together. I love you daddy, now and forever.

Thank you for so many experiences and for making me my first chitlins! I love’em with hot sauce just like you taught me! I am glad that I was able to spend 28 years of living with you, so with that being said, I can’t be selfish and ask God why?, You are in a better place. I Love you to the death of me, and you will forever be in my heart.

- Love Your Granddaughter, Gabby Where do I start Grandpa you’ve been the most consistent person in my life. I remember waiting in the kitchen for you to get up and head out back to the garage. You use to tell me all the time boy get out the way leave them tools alone. Grandpa you taught me so much and barely spoke you just modeled an excellence I prided myself about. You always handled business and went out your way to take care of the family. I remember the first time as a young man me and you work on my first car I bought. I knew how to put the sensor on myself but I came on over to your house and ask you to help me put it on. I think you knew that I knew how to do it already but you took the time to show me. Grandpa I remember when I had my first born Dj and he was born premature you told me he going be okay boo head he going be a big o boy and grandpa you ain’t never lied you Lil boy is a big o boy now. I’m going miss you grandpa and I know it would be selfish of me to wish you were still here but I’m happy you get to see grandma once again.

I love you grandpa and I’m going miss you and I pray I see you again one day.
