Brooke Bottle Holder Like Sew Patterns

The Brook Bottle Holder event in early May was so much fun! We treated our quilting cottons with a product called Odicoat to make them both water resistant and sturdy. I was so proud of our group for perservering through some challenging techniques including bulky seams and adding in our own custom changes, like using magnetic snaps and adding in a cute Handmade Label to our front pockets.
My favorite part of Bagmakers’ Club so far has been seeing our members come in to show us the extra bags they made after class! Get the bug with us and join us for the next bag!

Converting Thread Range
When you acquire a .vp3 or .vp4 formatted embroidery file, the thread range used in the design may not be your preferred thread. Here is a tip that will make converting threads easier. In this example we have an embroidery file that uses Madeira Rayon 40 thread.

6 In the Export dialog select the Brother / Baby Lock / Bernina (.pec) File Format drop-down.
7 Click OK to export the design.
8 Open the exported design in CREATIVATE.

Legacies is maintenance and cleaning of your sewing machine. Even though the interface and settings are electronic on newer machines, there are still many moving parts that need to be cleaned and oiled or greased.
Thread fragments and lint quickly accumulate under the covers. Left unchecked, that buildup affects the performance of the machine and causes strain on the moving parts. We’ve serviced machines that have had motors burn out and parts break due to excessive lint build up in the wrong places.

You can see how the lint is also packed in around the hook unit and causing friction as the hook spins.

WHAT DOES MAINTENANCE SERVICE ENTAIL?
Perform a test sew on the machine when it comes in to verify how it is executing various stitches.
Remove the outside covers and the hook unit.
Clean the lint, thread, oil, and grease build up from the machine.
Check belt and gear movements to verify things are moving smoothly, making adjustments as necessary.
Regrease and reoil appropriate components.
Remount the hook unit and recalibrate as necessary:
Hook home position
Hook height
Needle height
Hook-Needle timing
Stitch plate center
Feed dog position
Remount the covers
Update machine software if out of date.
Viking Designer EPIC 3 machines, require additional maintenance on embroidery units: Remove covers.
Clean guide rails
Verify arm is straight, adjust as necessary. Tighten screws holding guide rails. Verify belt tension, adjust as necessary. Regrease guide rails
Remount covers.
Run the machine service programs to calibrate embroidery tensions.
Run the machine service programs to calibrate stitch balance and tension settings. If the customer has reported problems with embroidery, or the stitch balance was off, we will also recalibrate the embroidery settings.
Perform a sample stitch out for the customer showing sample stitches. Wipe down the outside of the machine to remove dirt, grease, lint, etc.

HOW OFTEN IS MAINTENANCE REQUIRED?
We typically tell customers to bring their machines in once a year for service, but that is not an absolute. If you sew every day, you should probably bring it in every six to nine months. For those of you who only sew occasionally maybe every two years. The frequency your machine needs service also depends on the types of fabrics and threads you are using as some generate more lint than others.
Here is an example of lint and thread build up on a machine after just 100 hours of sewing.
HOW LONG DOES THE MAINTENANCE TAKE?
We will usually have your machine cleaned and calibrated in about two weeks. If a part needs replacement that we do not have in stock it may be another one to two weeks before your machine is ready.
