DR. MARY’S STORY OF RESILIENCE

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES AND EMBRACING OPPORTUNITIES

I am honored and grateful for the invaluable lessons in resilience that my mother and grandmother imparted to me during my formative years They consistently emphasized the importance of perseverance, reminding me that life's obstacles could be transformed into stepping stones towards achieving my goals

Growing up amidst the Civil Rights Movement, I witnessed and experienced profound challenges stemming from pervasive discrimination against Blacks

The prevalent racism and bias based on skin color often left me disheartened I questioned whether I could effect change Eventually, I embraced education as my pathway to a brighter future

Securing a full-time job that covered my college tuition, I embarked on the demanding journey of working and attending college simultaneously Despite the immense challenges, I persevered Over time, I began to see progress and opportunities emerging

Reflecting on my journey, I am grateful for the blessings that enabled me to reach my educational goals The pinnacle of my academic journey was achieving my Doctorate of Philosophy Degree and Doctorate of Ministry Degree Today, I hold licenses as a Licensed Clinical Pastoral Counselor with 10 Advanced certifications Additionally, I am a Board-Certified Master Mental Health Professional and Life Coach, Clinical Supervisor, and an International Representative for a Christian Counseling Organization.

As I look back, I find solace in knowing that I am better equipped today, and our nation has taken significant strides towards addressing injustices. I remain cognizant of the coexistence of opportunity and opposition When confronted with challenges, I swiftly embrace them as opportunities for growth and learning By shifting my focus towards the potential within every challenge, I diminish the power of opposition Every setback becomes an opportunity for resilience and a greater comeback

DR. LINDA’S STORY OF RESILIENCE

FROM SURVIVAL TO TRIUMPH: A JOURNEY OF HEALING AND REDEMPTION

My life has been a journey spanning well over five decades, marked by unbelievable trauma, abandonment, rejection, and abuse at all levels I grew up in a home with a physically abusive, alcoholic father, and a mother who, unable to deal with her own pain, emotionally and physically dumped her struggles onto myself and my brothers

Relocating to North America as a teenager, in search of a better life, proved to be short-lived, as I found myself moving from one abusive relationship to the next, all while maintaining a highly toxic relationship with my mother

By all projections, I should have ended up either insane, an addict, in jail, or six feet under I contemplated suicide several times, but I knew that was not the solution Had it not been for God's hands on my life,

I would not have survived an abusive marriage, divorce, several miscarriages, rejection, lies, and betrayal from church members, the end of my physical ministry, abandonment from friends, and several bouts of sickness from unspecified medical reasons

I am alive today only by the grace of God to tell the story of survival I know we should thrive and not merely survive, but I literally had to survive before I could testify to thriving. I am a woman who has overcome much Today, I am married to a man who loves me, the mother of one adult daughter, an ordained minister, the founder and director of Linda P Jones Ministries, the Women of Worth online women’s ministry, and the Women of Worth Mentorship Academy – WOWMA

I am a digital content creator, teacher, coach, author of over a dozen books, and hold a Doctorate in Practical Theology from Masters International University in Evansville, Indiana

DR. JOI’S STORY OF RESILIENCE

EMBRACING CHALLENGES, HARNESSING JOY

One of my favorite sayings is, “I am the author of my own life ” The power of who I am and what I want in life lies in the pen Life resembles a roller coaster ride, filled with ups, downs, curves, and turns, moving forward and sometimes backward Along this journey, I've had to persevere through challenges and setbacks, from navigating college as a pregnant freshman to assuming my first-time supervisory role and subsequently experiencing a downgrade due to organizational transformation

When confronted with life's hurdles, I recall the "I Can Mantra" instilled in me by my grandmother. In our family, "I can't" wasn't an option; instead, we embraced "I can, I will, or I'll try " This upbringing instilled in me the belief that I could achieve anything I set my mind to I was taught to dream big and understand that dreams can indeed come true

As a child, I was described as ambitious, beautiful, confident, determined, fearless, intelligent, and strong I was enough and a source of joy to my family and the world Growing up, I maintained faith in myself and my abilities

Despite facing instances where I was overlooked and underestimated, I refused to give up and consistently reaffirmed the "I Can Mantra " I am grateful for the presence of family and friends who reminded me of my name, Joi, which signifies life, hope, happiness, and love I am living proof that every dream and desire I held as a young girl has manifested in my life My greatest setbacks and challenges have transformed into my greatest testimonies.

The power to shape my identity and aspirations lies within my grasp I have chosen to radiate joy in this world and to uplift, equip, and empower others to realize their own greatness

In 2017, after attending a business conference where a speaker inspired her to take a chance on herself, Kimisha King boldly launched an Instagram page called Queensmindset to uplift and encourage women What began as a motivational platform quickly evolved into live sessions, YouTube videos, TV series, workshops, summits, conferences, podcasts, books, magazines, and ultimately, an entire organization

For her, it was a risk a leap into the unknown As an island girl from humble beginnings, she never imagined she could impact millions. Despite doubts and obstacles, she chose to believe in her worth and pursue her dreams relentlessly Overcoming fear, comparison, anxiety, and insecurity, she became an international speaker driven by her passion for empowering women

Yet, in 2018, her confidence wavered after a failed attempt to partner with an empowerment speaker Despite her idol's criticism, she paused, questioning her readiness and capabilities Doubt crept in, and she momentarily halted her journey, fearing failure and feeling unworthy of inspiring others.

However, in 2019, she resolved to press forward, dedicating herself wholeheartedly to empowering women and reinventing herself Despite encountering numerous rejections and setbacks, she persisted, fueled by her determination to succeed. Now, she stands at a place where she sees the fruits of her labor a testament to the risk she took.

Choosing herself and striving for betterment was a gamble, but she defied all odds. Refusing to let her circumstances define her, she embraced the risk and emerged victorious, proving that with courage and perseverance, even the most improbable dreams can become reality

PromisedPurpose

Venesia Bowden

I fondly recall receiving the promise of my "promised purpose child"; however, as time passed, I forgot this promise Thankfully, my Abba is not slack concerning His promises, and He surely delivered It was not until my 8th month of pregnancy, while praying regarding a name for my unborn baby, that He gently reminded me of the promise Oh, blessed assurance! Though this journey is one promised, it has not been without its challenges, particularly in terms of health My "promised purpose child" has experienced many bouts of illness that continue presently. There were times he would wheeze so much that he would be nebulized a whopping twelve times! We were so frequent at the hospital that we were known personally by healthcare providers and support staff. Thankfully, after changing environments within a year, the wheezing subsided. Nevertheless, the severe allergies persisted

My sweet "promised purpose child" is quite an energetic bundle! And with that observation came concerns which resulted in a most heart-wrenching diagnosis of special needs How could this be? Why would God make me such a promise, and now I am here, dealing with special needs? Such a diagnosis is one where no matter how learned or prepared a parent might be, it is one you never want to hear

I plunged into silence, primarily speaking with my Abba. I had so many questions for Him. Tears became my driving and nightly companion. As time progressed, I experienced His healing and learned more of His truth. I came to the realization that I too am promised and purposed for such a time as this Learning experientially that the strength of hope lies in the presence of adversity and that I am included in His mercy system, serving as a pharmacist, special needs parenting coach, and neurodiversity specialist

Semekor Augusta Georgette Kporvi RisingAbove

I am Semekor Augusta Georgette Kporvi, a single mother of two, a Development Communicator, Founder of SemCARE AFRICA FOUNDATION, and a petty trader Growing up without parental supervision, as a teenage girl pregnant and abandoned by her dad, life wasn't easy Despite these challenges, I persevered through the darkest times, driven by sheer survival instincts

They say determination leads to success, but in my case, it was recommendations. I seized any opportunity, even if it wasn't in my immediate interest. Through a stroke of luck, I received media training and interned at a local radio station, Lorlornyo FM, later moving to Ho, Kekeli Radio, where I started afresh. Life began to improve gradually.

Determined to advance my education beyond high school and media training, I enrolled as a mature student at African University College of Communications in Accra, opting for weekend sessions Despite the demanding schedule of working Monday to Friday and attending school from Friday evening to Sunday, while also juggling motherhood and household chores, I persisted

Drawing from my experiences, I began helping others in my community I provided skills training and equipment to women interested in starting their own businesses. Eventually, I formalized these efforts by registering SEMCARE AFRICA FOUNDATION as an NGO in accordance with Ghanaian laws.

Financial constraints challenged my ability to run the NGO smoothly, so I sought partnerships to execute projects effectively I believe in the power of dreams and encourage others to write them down, knowing they are achievable with perseverance

Life may present challenges, but by staying resilient and using social media positively, we can turn dreams into reality My hope is to secure grants and sponsors to expand our outreach to more women in the community and beyond Through collective efforts, we can make the world a better place, one small step at a time.

Mellisha Carter MyResilienceStory

"The American Psychological Association website states that 'Resilience is the process and outcome of successfully adapting to difficult or challenging life experiences, especially through mental, emotional, and behavioral flexibility and adjustment to external and internal demands '

When I was younger, I was told that I was a mistake, among other things, which affected my self-esteem and left me feeling purposeless

Three things kept me moving forward during those difficult times: a) my trips to Sunday School, b) going to school, and c) learning. Sunday School taught me about Jesus and His love for me, while attending school and learning were my escape from the toxic environment in which I lived I poured my all into learning because it was safe; it was my happy place

My childhood brokenness followed me into adulthood and affected the quality of some of my life decisions However, through my struggles, I found that I became resilient because I kept moving forward I learned that no matter how hard it gets, I must get up, exercise my faith, and continually seek the Lord’s guidance I also remembered the story of Joseph in the Book of Genesis who prevailed with the Lord’s help.

Being a parent also motivates me to be resilient as I honor my Heavenly Father by taking care of the two children He has blessed me with.

Remember, don’t drop your anchor on the streets of discourageme bitterness

Kiesha Pitter

Resilience is like a superpower that helps us bounce back from tough times It's all about facing challenges, adapting, and coming out stronger on the other side

I didn't believe this until life took a drastic turn for what I feared was the worst and most painful and agonizing 14 years of my life I was diagnosed with Sickle Cell Anemia, and doctors deemed me dead by age 20 I thought that was it, but when I was only 16, I had an accident that left me immobilized with both ankles wrapped and on the brink of amputation, what they call Chronic Leg Ulcers.

The hospital became my second home, I barely graduated high school, and I couldn't work because I was either stuck in bed or at the hospital getting treatments On top of that, in the year 2019, I had to do a blood transfusion due to low blood count, and I had early-stage kidney disease and acute chest syndrome

I thought, "Lord, why am I even here?" and I remembered back in 2016 the Holy Spirit whispered gently yet clearly, "SHARE YOUR STORY!" I was no college graduate nor was I a journalist, but I've learned that "God doesn't call the qualified, HE QUALIFIES THE CALL!

So I wrote two books titled, "Here I Am, Lord: Surrendering When It's Uncomfortable," and a devotional "A Call To Deeper Prayer: 31 Days Toward Building Undefeated Faith for Persons Struggling with Chronic Illnesses With God ALL things are Possible

I got my first summer and official job at age 28, I've been on the Daylig Show with my book coach and publisher Crystal Daye, written for Fr Come Rain and PAJE Magazines

Practice gratitude despite the odds and make your story a testam resilience.

JourneytoSelf-Discovery

Ayana Miller

I am a Transformational Kingdom Woman Why that name? It was resonated to me during sleeping hours The Birth of my Transformational Journey began from being in an abusive relationship, meaning mental abuse I was in a relationship where I was ill-treated, cheated on, used, and mentally abused

I started thinking something was wrong with me, that I was not pretty enough, not the right complexion I was so confused I accepted all the negative remarks, insults, and even tried to be someone else to fit into crowds to be liked. There were many nights I cried myself to sleep, even asking God why me. Just to note, it also started where I was treated less than growing up as a child. My grandmother favored my cousin more than me, and that hurt. I was even sexually touched as a child and kept that to myself until adulthood All these kept me stagnant and afraid to speak, because of what others would say, and that comes from culture and society

I left my home at age twenty-something, got into wrong relationships because I thought that was love, since I was not shown the true love from my father Listen, that could break you But it's only God and Him sending people my way to save me and remind me how much I am loved by Him and beautiful I got the strength to come out of that last relationship and eventually got married. I started to find my true identity. I know I have a purpose, and God has me here for a reason. I am His child, just as everyone else. I started to learn to be comfortable in my own skin.

Motherhood,Business &Service

Trivania Bourne

As a Mother, Business Owner, and Professional, I thrive to give my son the best life possible and also to give back to my community through my service as a regional producer in the life insurance field I aim to help protect every working middle-class family and also through my personal business Desire Bloom to teach everyone about the importance of basic healthcare, especially in the islands and third-world countries where it’s needed the most.

Growing up, I got to experience both realities where healthcare was accessible but in some aspects not really helping people face their real diagnosis and one where there was barely any, only if you had a lot of money to get the necessary treatment My goal is to help everyone by giving them the proper knowledge to help them make the best-educated decisions when it comes to protecting themselves and their families

As a regional producer, I have helped protect hundreds of families by giving them additional insurance coverages when their family needs it the most.

EmbracingEducation:The FutureofBlackWomenin HigherEducation

Natalie Juane Walthrust Jones

Writing the article "The Future of Black Women in Higher Education" was a rewarding exercise. It allowed me to showcase the privilege and honor of teaching within a higher education institution, the Barbados Community College, and pursuing an EdD in Education.

The article was written for an inaugural publication for "I am Bold and Fearless Woman Magazine," which was published in March 2022 for International Women’s Day and debuted in Nigeria Being featured alongside women of color to launch this magazine was special to me as the Editor is a past student of Government and Political Studies, of which I am the Coordinator and Head of Department She has continued to excel in her chosen area of the creatives while helping women to embrace self-love and give themselves grace despite the hardships faced along the road of discovery, self-development, love, spirituality, and life generally.

Queen Mindset engenders the ability that we as women have and can tap into once we understand how to do so. There is nothing wrong with needing help and learning new traits that enhance your ability to function at the highest possible level and allow your growth and true potential to be seen and displayed We as black women are the quintessence of all that mankind has embodied for the female and more As the true nurturers of our societies, we are called to embrace a higher calling that allows our spirituality to show forth along with our strength

As we journey in academia and continue to rise while sharing our knowledge base with our peoples, we know that we are the future in higher education in this digital divide and that we are pushing forward in this global village of the third decade of the 21st century.

Gabrielle Gay TransformingEducation

Imagine having the audacity to believe you could change the entire world via Education, even when you were told your ideas would be unsuccessful This is my extraordinary path to founding The Erline Bradshaw Foundation, Barbados' #1 Education Foundation, and the creator of global, groundbreaking education programs in the Caribbean and reaching over 10 million worldwide

Despite many challenges and initial skepticism from the education gatekeepers at the time, I saved up my meager allowance and launched The Gabrielle Gay Award for Excellence in Reading and Literacy Mentorship Programme at just 13 years old, in five schools. It made history, becoming the first Barbadian reading programme to be honored by Queen Elizabeth II in the Queens Young Leaders Cohort, and to partner with The World Literacy Foundation! To date, through our Graduation awards, reading sessions, and leadership mentorship: we have reached over 200+ schools and universities globally, paid school tuitions, provided uniforms and shoes to students in countries like Sierra Leone, India, St Lucia, St Vincent, Ghana, Tanzania, Jamaica, Malawi, and Vanuatu!

My passion for Education and Innovation continues: in 2021, EBF introduced The Femme Lex Cohort, providing mentorship, mental health support, and educational opportunities to young women in Law and STEM from Small Island Developing States. The Femme Lex Cohort, the first and only certified legal mentorship program of its kind in the Caribbean, connects aspiring female law and politics students to specialized fields like Technology Law, and Climate Justice It reaches over 300,000+ women students and professionals and students in the Caribbean, Africa, Latin America, United Kingdom, and America! Our impact on Education has truly been heartwarming, and we are always open to collaborate and partner with like-minded persons, organizations, and entities who wish to support our work

My journey is a testament to the fact that when you believe in God, have a genuine support system around you, and are determined to live in purpose? You will SOAR with your unique talents and perpetually bless the world around you. Take the leap: your best life awaits you on the other side!

TrustingGodWhenIt FeelsHard

Leeann Brown

I met my husband in 2009, and by 2010, we were married. Sure enough, we wanted to start a family and began trying to conceive We did all the tests, and back then, we discovered that there was an issue with my husband, which we quickly resolved

Fast forward to 2016, and we were still trying to conceive but without success I faced many Mother’s Days without hearing the voice of a little one saying "mom" or even the patter of tiny feet

I decided it was time to find out what was wrong. The gynecologist said, “you have fibroids and need surgery.” I declared that God would have to heal me because He made me fearfully and wonderfully, and unless He said surgery, there was no way I would go under the knife.

On May 28, 2021, I went to the bathroom for my usual quiet time with God I opened my Bible to a verse already highlighted:

Jeremiah 30:17"But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,’ declares the Lord, ‘because you are called an outcast, Zion for whom no one cares ’"

This was all the confirmation I needed to finally surrender to God’s receive my healing, which did not come supernaturally but th myomectomy (surgery that removes fibroids but keeps the womb intac

I’m grateful God kept me sane throughout that season, and althoug hard, I'm trusting God for the blessing of the fruit of the womb believing God for something, I encourage you to trust Him too because it may be delayed, your blessing is not denied

PurposeInPain

Michelle Saxton

After the loss of my dad in 2000, my mom in 2002, and my husband killed in a car accident Thanksgiving night 2004, I walked around for four years mad at God and thinking the world owed me something It wasn’t until I said yes again to God, went and laid on a therapist couch to understand that I was stricken with grief, anxiety, and depression I promised God when He gets me out of this mess, I would create a platform where others who may be having the same or near experiences as I did that I would have an outlet to be a part of where others understand what our feelings looked like without being criticized or judged.

I formed M.I.A.. “Missing In Action” Grief Support Group because I too was missing in action (Mia) is also my childhood nickname Since forming the group initially for women, our circle has been extended to men and kids as well Our organization is not to heal or treat but we do have a licensed physician on our staff to help in those quarterly meetings to get us the resources we need and point us in direction to those who can be of service when we don’t have all the answers This platform has been a blessing to so many

My journey to sel

2020. Amidst giving birth, losing my high paying job of 17 years, and facing marital issues, I found myself grappling with pain and uncertainty It was during this difficult period that I truly understood the depth of my inner strength and faith Despite the setbacks, I refused to let my circumstances define me Instead, I embraced the unknown as an opportunity for growth and reinvention

Losing my job became the catalyst for entrepreneurship I launched my own vending business, "L I F E Vending Services," which has since flourished in South Florida Additionally, my marital struggles inspired me to create "L I F E Ministries," an online platform dedicated to encouraging others to maintain faith in the face of adversity.

Through my experiences, I have learned that being bold and fearless requires unwavering trust in God, patience with oneself, self-belief, self-love, and a willingness to embrace the healing process By embodying these qualities, not only can we survive life's challenges, but we can thrive and emerge stronger than ever before
