Welcome to the Queensland Conservatorium community — a place of music-making, creativity and discovery. Whether you are joining us for the first time or returning to continue your musical journey, we are delighted to welcome you and your family to the Open Conservatorium’s State Honours Ensemble Programs, proudly part of one of Australia’s most respected music and acting institutions — “the Con”.
Since its modest beginnings in 2001, the State Honours Ensemble Program has grown to support more than 6,000 students each year across 17 programs in 10 centres. In addition, the Australian Honours Ensemble Program also brings together students from New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, Victoria and the Northern Territory. These programs are a wonderful reminder of how valued music education is in our schools and communities, and how important the encouragement of families and teachers is in helping young musicians thrive.
Thank you for supporting your children and students in their musical journeys, and for being part of the SHEP/AHEP community. I would also like to acknowledge the Open Conservatorium team, led by Jason Budge, whose care, expertise and dedication make these programs possible.
This is an exciting time to be connected to the Queensland Conservatorium. The music being made today — in rehearsal rooms, classrooms and performance spaces — is part of a vibrant and growing cultural community. As Queensland looks ahead to 2032 and beyond, the creativity, skill and passion being nurtured in young musicians today will play an important role in shaping the future of our state’s cultural life. We hope many of the young musicians participating in SHEP/AHEP today will continue their musical journey in years to come as Conservatorium students, audience members, teachers and performers.
