ISLAND ACTION
61ST ANNUAL CHALLENGE BOWL
Swan Island played proud hosts to 14 teams from across Victoria on Friday 7 June, as they competed for the 61st QGC Challenge Bowl.
The first recorded Challenge was played in 1963 and won by Lonsdale GC. Since then, Barwon Heads, Portarlington, Torquay, Queen’s Park and Tullamarine are some who have held the Bowl aloft in victory.
This year’s field came from near and as far away as Riverside Essendon. The weather was kind, the course was spectacular and the hospitality from all involved was sparkling and warm.

The 2024 Bowl Champions are Clifton Springs GC with an outstanding score of 106. They last won the Bowl 21 years ago, so the ladies were very excited to return to their club as Winners. Ocean Grove also scored well and achieved a close second.
“Thank you to all for a great day. The sun shone, the wind didn’t blow, and great company was had. Well done Queenscliff Golf Club for welcoming us to your venue. ” Gayle Connor, Queens Park GC via Facebook

A big shout out to our Members and staff who helped create a warm, energetic vibe that will keep QGC in the hearts and minds of our visitors for quite some time.
And a special mention to Peter Toynes Clubhouse Golf, who sponsored our event with prize vouchers. Irene set up shop for the day with loads of bargains, so everyone went home a winner. Visit them at 202 Moorabool Street Geelong or golfingdepot com au
ALL-WEATHER WARRIORS
Rain, wind, sunshine... the results keep on coming thanks to our dedicated crews.
The Monday work group worked their magic, clearing the area under the trees on the 3rd green.
Peter McSween said 17 balls were recovered If they are yours, you can buy it back at the bar

Work continues...
Even with extreme winds threatening to blow them away like gravel dust, the team persisted with their blitz on the new path from the car park to the 1st tee.

COURSE UPDATE
FORE-WARD THINKING
By Jake SizerTHE TO DO LIST
As we approach the cooler months and the golfers' numbers drop, it’s our time to make course improvements that may cause more disruption than usual. We have a few projects to tackle this winter. One of the projects is upgrading our paths.

PROJECT PATHS
The paths on the course have seen better days. These paths were once mulch but now all that’s left are the larger pieces and dirt. The tracks are dusty when dry and muddy when wet. Not to mention the tripping hazards and slipping issues on declining hills Golfers are now avoiding paths due to these issues
Over the next few months, there will be some disruption as we cut out and level several paths at once before finishing with a layer of gravel This will improve the overall look of the course and continue lifting our standards. Level pathways will also provide greater safety and comfort for golfers enjoying our course This will be an ongoing project over the next few years
This week we completed the practice nets, as shown
Hope everyone has a great time golfing on the course.
Jake.

A marked improvement
