Hi there!

Thanks to Phil Shay, the match committee was sent reaching for rule books this week when he asked for a ruling on the status of the grass reeds in the middle of the bunker near the second green “Is this an integral part of the bunker or an island in the middle of the bunker?”

To clarify, grassy islands within a bunker are not part of the bunker, so you can play the ball as it lies or use the unplayable ball option If you select the two-club-length relief option for an unplayable ball, the ball must be dropped within two club lengths no closer to the hole The player may drop their ball anywhere within that prescribed area, which may be in or out of the bunker. Hope this information helps anyone else that might find themselves in the same predicament!

We had 105 absolutely dedicated players brave the hot conditions for Saturday's Stableford Well done Jamie Wekworth with a score of 40!

I hope you’re enjoying your game Golf is a thinker’s game It’s chess on grass. Every shot calls for strategy, every putt demands precision. It’s about playing the elements, understanding the course, and, most importantly, knowing yourself.

The offending bunker at the 2nd

One Stormy Wednesday Image courtesy of Matt Lewis

This week we took a gamble on the weather and spread out our granular fertiliser on our fairways Tuesday afternoon. Wednesday morning we welcomed 13mm of rain and another 8mm in the late evening. This felt like it may have been our last chance to get that fertiliser out. But it definitely payed off and we expect to see some growth and colour back into our fairways.

All the Tees, surrounds and par 3’s got sprayed with a high nitrogen liquid fertiliser to give them a boost of growth and to help darken in colour, helped by the moisture in the soil from the rain.

It hasn’t all been positive news with this humidity and rain. We have been dealing with some issues on the course due to the moisture levels and the heat. We put out a fungicide on the greens early in the week because some greens showed early signs of disease. Also, the moss problem in the greens was more prominent this week with this weather so we also sprayed out a product to help resolve that issue. Before spraying for the moss we verti-mowed those greens so it opens the moss up allowing the intake to be more efficient.

Any spare time we managed to get we tackled doing some bunker work. Especially focusing on the bunker edges and faces. Keeping up with the growth this time of year is a challenge in not allowing the edges to get too out of control.

Happy Golfing, Jake
