Andrew "Batto” Batson

25 OCTOBER 2024

FROM THE CLUBHOUSE

No one loved a golf fundraiser more than Batto, so it was a great pleasure to see his family, great mates and fellow club members from all sporting codes come together to celebrate his passion for fun with a day of island golf And, of course, raising some needed funds in the process!

Couldn't make it for this big calendar event? Don't stress - there are plenty more opportunities to play

Hi there,

What a pleasant surprise to return from our getaway in Japan, to see the course in such wonderful condition. I commend Jake and his team for all the work that they have put in.

I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who took part in our fundraising event in honour of Andrew Batson….Batto’s Bash. Whether you were on the course, volunteering behind the scenes, a generous sponsor or contributing in other ways, your efforts made a real impact. Your enthusiasm and generosity made the event a resounding success! We will have more information on the total of funds raised and how this will be used by the club in coming weeks. Thank you again for making this event a fantastic achievement!

I warmly welcome Michael McSween and Michael Havelberg to the Match Committee. I look forward to their insights and contributions, which will help us continue to grow and enhance our club’s success.

Next Thursday we have a team of six ladies playing against Lonsdale Links in The Jubilee Shield. Both clubs have targeted newer players to the game and is an opportunity for everyone to learn about matchplay. We have some great mentors from both clubs to help out on the day.

Congratulations to Loretta Wayth and Aileen Rowe who won their place in the RJ Pearce gold letter event with the men's to be determined in December.

Good luck to those competing in the final round of the Syd McSween Shield on Saturday and to our team of women competing in the Bellarine Lakes Challenge Bowl on Monday.

See you on the course, Barb

OUT AND ABOUT WITH...

A team consisting of Siobhan Lyons, Janina Rowe, Chris McManus and Marg Jellett entered a team in the Two Days on the Links event at Port Fairy on 17th and 18th October.

The first day was very windy and on day 2 the rain came but that did not deter us, we pushed through and had a fabulous 2 days of golf Port Fairy golf club were very well organised and put on a terrific event.

Although we didn't come away with the main prize, we managed to be awarded a team prize for best 6 holes from the 7th-12th! And more importantly, we played some good golf and had a fun trip away!

SPRINGING INTO ACTION...

This week has been a short week but a very productive week for my staff and I leading into Batto’s Bash golf event on Friday 25th.

We have really focussed on our course presentation. With having 28mm of rain last week we have seen a great influx of growth in our turf and the broadleaf weeds. All our Fairways, Tees and Surrounds have been cut twice this week on top of our greens mowing and rolling program. The continuation of spraying herbicide has been applied on the course any chance we get.

The 15th path has been our next project we have taken on. This path was long overdue for a makeover. Most people were avoiding the path when going to the tees due to it being so bumpy or uneven ground. We have built a step up to the hill from recycled railway sleepers and made a retaining wall from old pier pillars from Queenscliff. More crushed gravel will be applied in the coming weeks.

I hope everyone had a great day at Batto’s memorial day. A truly special character missed by all around the club.

Happy Golfing, Jake
