The Course Report.....

As most of you regular golfers may be aware, our greens have been pretty quick lately. The speed of the greens is a result of many things Managing moisture in the greens, slowing down the growth of the plant, thatch levels, height of cut, rolling the greens regularly and dusting with sand. The weather plays a major part in managing the greens speed with either too much rain, or wind and sun drying out the greens That’s why coming into these cooler months my plan was to keep the moisture levels low in our greens as they wont die with the low temperatures, but also wont get too soft or ‘soggy’ coming into winter

The greens speed is measured by a tool called a stimpmeter. This device has a cut out where the ball sits into it and once it is lifted to the perfect angle the ball is released and rolled 3 balls are rolled and measure from the stimpmeter to find your average Then repeat the process back the other direction Divide it by 2 in a measurement of feet and thats the final answer of the stimpmeter reading of that particular green Our greens were reading 12 after a roll on Wednesday The ideal range is 10-12

Hope everyone has a great weekend golfing out on the course.

Men’s Pennant Update

Pennant update and week 7 teams as follows:

We only had the one team play this week as Division 4 hosted pennant at Queenscliff On that note all the visiting players I spoke to on the day thought the course was in great condition and the greens quite fast Our Handicap East team made the short trip over to Ocean Grove to take on our cross town rivals Lonsdale Links This was a pressure contest as the winner would be assured of a finals berth As it turned out the contest was halved with both sides winning 2 1/2 matches each The pressure was on Warren Fenton though as he went down the 18th with his match squared and each team having two wins Wazza coped with the pressure to make a clutch six footer to halve his match and halve the contest Well done the skipper This result has assured Queenscliff of a finals berth in the Handicap East division with Lonsdale Links and Clifton Springs to fight for the other spot next week.

The Division Four finalists were also decided after the three contests at Queenscliff As Colac were defeated this now means that Queenscliff will play Ocean Grove in the final with one week remaining This is a great result as the Division Four final is being played at Queenscliff this year Division Four will be playing at Torquay against Inverleigh this week while the Handicap East side will be hosting pennant.

Congratulations to both sides for making the finals.

The individual results are as follows:

Handicap East halved with Lonsdale Links 2 1/2 to 2 1/2

Marty Christensen Def Corey Stevens 4/3

Warren Fenton halved with J Dowling

Anthony Webber Lost to Michael Dole 5/4

A little History

This hole in one trophy was the property of R R McGie for an Ace on the 5th hole 140 yards on the 14 May 1936. Not sure if the then 5th hole is the current 14th or perhaps the course was configured in 1936

The trophy can be viewed in the cabinet in the foyer

Note Not the original ball
