APRIL 2024

The difference a little bit of rain makes! These photos of the 6th fairway are taken 3 weeks apart.

The Course Report.....

With the combination of rain and an application of liquid fertiliser on the fairways and tees we welcome the green tinge back across the course You will see on the course that our native fescue is germinating across our fairways.

This week we Aerated our greens with a system that replaces our greens mower heads with Aerator heads. These heads are a solid roller with even spaced spikes that are 50mm in depth. This is beneficial for the health of our greens by relieving compaction in the soil and helps with our thatch issues. This turf practice doesn’t change playability of the greens where other minor renovation practices do. After rolling the greens today these holes are hardly visible now, but are doing their job below the surface

A project we have had our eyes set on for a long time is the 3rd bunker This bunker being an issue for golfers not having an entrance or exit out of this bunker other than the back of the bunker This is bunker is too large to have to rake your whole way back out It’s time consuming and slows up play We are half way through constructing a tongue from the centre of the green to help this issue. Keep an eye out for this progress

Hope everyone has a great weekend golfing out on the course.

Jake

Men’s Pennant Update

Queenscliff had a very successful day of pennant last weekend with all players recording a win. The Division Four team travelled to Colac in misty rain but on arrival the weather had settled and provided near perfect conditions for golf One of the highlights of the day was watching Murray Warren hit a six iron as his second shot into the downhill par five 14th hole. His ball narrowly missed the hole for an albatross and left an eagle putt of approximately two feet. Murray did not need to make the putt though as his playing partner had given him the hole. The team went on to win seven games to Nil Our Handicap East team who only had a short trip over to Lonsdale had already set the pace with a white wash against St Leonard’s. Another great effort. This leaves both teams at the top of their respective ladders with three games to go. The ladders are attached The individual results are as follows:

Queenscliff defeated Torquay 7 to Nil

Mick Havelberg Def Brad Green 7/5

Darren Shapter Def Scott Harding 4/2

Michael McSween Def Tim Sinnot 2 Up

Josh Mastin Def Ray Furphy 5/4
