STRATEGIC VISION Way Ahead.

2023 - 2028

Where BIG Futures... The WGPPS strategy sits alongside the strategies for QEGS (Queen Elizabeth Grammar School) and WGHS (Wakefield Girls’ High School) and is underpinned by the overarching strategy for WGSF (Wakefield Grammar School Foundation). This plan seeks to articulate our priorities for the next five years. This plan is underpinned by the Foundation’s long term mission, vision and values.

OUR VISION To enable long lasting contributions to society through a shared joy for learning.

OUR MISSION To provide education in a supportive, engaging and inclusive environment that inspires individuals to develop their abilities, strengthen their character and fulfil their potential.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR

CHAIR OF GOVERNORS

Our Pre-Prep school is the strong base of the Wakefield Grammar School Foundation. It provides the start of a cohesive, seamless journey through the Foundation’s Schools from the age of three to eighteen. It is here that we will first nurture a joy for learning, anchored by kindness and resilience. This forward-thinking and aspirational plan sets out how we will achieve this. I have every confidence that it will be delivered.

Simon Chamberlain CHAIR OF GOVERNORS

The

Wakefield Way

As one of a family of three schools that make up the Wakefield Grammar School Foundation, our school follows the Wakefield Way, a shared ethos which defines everything we do, academically, socially and ethically. The Wakefield Way is about developing inspirational learning environments which celebrate and nurture the distinctive needs of boys and girls. It’s about encouraging each individual pupil to look outwards as well as inwards as they become remarkable people with the desire to make a difference in the world. It’s about building confidence, inspiring hearts and minds, and instilling an empowering sense of purpose. But, most of all, it’s about providing an imaginative foundation for life, learning and lasting achievement.

OUR

HISTORY

Wakefield Grammar Pre-Preparatory school opened its doors in September 2021. The new school was an amalgamation of the Pre-Prep part of QEGS (based at Centenary House) and the Pre-Prep section of the WGHS (based in the current building, Mulberry House). The Wakefield Grammar School Foundation numbers amongst the country’s leading families of independent day schools. An education at our three schools is different in many ways but at the heart of it all, there is one guiding ethos which defines everything we do, academically, socially and ethically. We call it ‘The Wakefield Way’.

OUR PLACE IN THE

WAKEFIELD GRAMMAR SCHOOL FOUNDATION

The school sees itself as having a vital role in the Wakefield Grammar School Foundation, nurturing and supporting our pupils to develop academic and social skills which will prepare them for the next stage in their educational journey. We appreciate how lucky we are to be able to work with children in the most crucial years of development and recognise the critical importance of Early Years education. We see the Pre-Prep as the building blocks on which the rest of the Foundation can grow, and the children in our care develop a strong sense of self and independence, cultivate skills of collaboration and problem solving and establish friendships which will last a lifetime. The ‘golden thread’ which unifies the schools in the Foundation is The Wakefield Way, a joy of learning which is deeply rooted in all we do. This moral purpose and a sense of always trying to do what is right, for our schools, our pupils and families, guides what we do across the Foundation.

OUR

PUPILS

Our boys and girls have one opportunity for an excellent education. We aim for this to be the best possible education. We motivate all of our pupils to be ‘Little Readers’ and ‘Little Leaders’.

LITTLE

READERS

At the Pre-Prep, a focus on growing successful readers means children can access all other areas of the curriculum, engage in multiple worlds and disciplines and truly develop pleasure in reading.

LITTLE

LEADERS

Our well developed pupil leadership programme gives our pupils a voice, which allows them to improve their experience of school, taking on an active and democratic role in the shaping of their education.

Emma Gill HEAD

We are committed to ensuring that our children learn to be kind, respectful and resilient. These values are crucial to our relationships and learning. In partnership with parents, carers, our Foundation schools and the wider community, we promote and sustain these values in our school to enable our children to become successful learners and positive citizens ready to meet the challenges of an ever changing world. We do this by monitoring each in four key areas. Academia, Wellbeing and Pathways To Success are the main elements of life at Wakefield Grammar Pre-Preparatory School.
