DU ZHENJUN 杜震 BIOGRAPHY Website

Du Zhenjun (b. 1961, Shanghai) was among the first artists of his generation to integrate digital technologies into fine art. His pioneering interactive installations—such as Doctor Du’s Anatomy Lesson (2002)—and computer-generated photographic series—such as Babel-World (2013) and The Tower of Babel (2010)—offer an innovative visual dialectic. His practice critically examines the dimensions of power embedded within information networks, technological advancement, and the broader human condition in a globalized era. Sourcing imagery from the internet, Du collages thousands of digital fragments into sprawling, dystopian cityscapes. Since 2022, he has expanded his technique into painting, creating surreal, mythic compositions based on AI-generated imagery. Du graduated from the Shanghai School of Fine Arts, where he taught from 1986 to 1991, before earning a postgraduate diploma in digital media from the École Régionale des Beaux-Arts de Rennes. His work has been exhibited extensively in international museums.
