Ru Xiaofan

(b. 1954, Nanjing, China; lives and works in Paris, France)

Biography Ru Xiaofan is an acclaimed painter and sculptor whose practice bridges traditional Chinese aesthetics with European Western abstraction. Studying under master painters Pierre Alechinsky and Olivier Debré at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Ru developed a distinct visual language that fuses pop-surrealist sensibilities with classical ink and oil traditions. Known for iconic motifs such as balloons, anthropomorphic plants, and his seminal Cent Fleurs series, his work uses playful yet profound metaphors to investigate human desire, metamorphosis, cultural exile, and environmental reflection.

Wang Du

(b. 1956, Wuhan, China; lives and works in Paris, France)

Biography Wang Du is an internationally acclaimed sculptor and installation artist whose work critically interrogates mass media, consumer culture, and political propaganda. Moving to Paris in 1990, Wang developed a monumentally scaled practice that transforms ephemeral media imagery—newspapers, television broadcasts, and digital news clips—into physical three-dimensional sculptures. Guided by his mantra "I am media, I am reality, I am image," his work examines how the digital "third reality" constructs contemporary social consciousness, deconstructing the sensationalism and information overload of hyper-globalized society. Education Professor of Art, Department of Art, Université Paris VIII & École Superior d'Art de Brest, France (1997–2001) Professor, Institute for Architectural Research, South China University of Technology, Guangzhou, China (1985– 1990) BA, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts (GAFA), Guangzhou, China Selected Retrospectives & Solo Exhibitions 2025: USA Weather Report, Musée Cernuschi, Paris, France 2005: Wang Du, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA), San Francisco, CA 2005: Wang Du, Vancouver Art Gallery, Vancouver, Canada 2004: Wang Du, Palais de Tokyo, Paris, France 2001: Wang Du: Défilé, Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), Chicago, IL 2000: Wang Du: Défilé, Deitch Projects, New York, NY

An Xiaotong

(b. 1971, Xi’an, China; lives and works in Paris, France and Beijing, China)

Biography An Xiaotong works across installation, ink painting, mixed media, and design to interrogate how digital culture and virtual connectivity reshape contemporary human experience. Transforming found imagery from websites, online forums, and video games into tactile forms—ranging from pixelated Lego friezes to stylized ink panoramas—An bridges digital virtuality with physical craft. Her recent practice features monumental monochrome ink landscapes reminiscent of photographic negatives, evoking schematic futures and post-catastrophic environments while engaging critically with traditional Chinese landscape painting.

Moving to Paris in 1986, Chen transitioned from painting to site-responsive sculpture and installation, formulating his influential concept of "Transexperience"—a framework describing the dynamic synthesis of cultures, spaces, and lived realities. Diagnosed with an incurable blood disease at age 25, Chen incorporated medical instruments, traditional Chinese medicine, and found domestic objects into poetic dialogues exploring the relationship between human physical vulnerability, spirituality, and societal transformation.
