Quaker Houghton has one standalone PRAB VM-12/SPC Mono-A-Vacuum Filtration System, available for Metal Removal Customer trials. The unit is available for use upon execution of the equipment loan agreement.

The PRAB Test Unit is ideal for customers who want to evaluate new products but only have central systems. This fully equipped unit provides customers with the ability to disconnect a machine from a central system, and run it independently, as a standalone system, allowing for new product performance trials.

VM-12/SPC Vacuum Filtration System The PRAB vacuum filtration system utilizes a vacuum chamber to draw dirty coolant through disposable filter media. The proven principle of optimal filtration through contaminate, or sludge build-up, forming a filter cake on the media is applied. Filtration is maximized as caking builds up on the media.

The PRAB Test Unit includes a Brinkmann High Pressure Pump with a pressure relief valve and a portable dirty coolant transfer system. The VM-12/SPC Mon-A-Vac Vacuum Filter is designed to filter 62 GPM at 5μ micron. It includes two separate clean return pumps (one at 60 GPM and 60 PSI and one at 2 GPM and 585 PSI), a media re-winder and a full control panel with starters for the filter, clean return pumps and portable dirty transfer system.

This filter will remove 98% of all material in excess of 5-micron from the system’s coolant. The mechanical and operational integrity must be maintained to supply this cleanliness.

Filtration Technique Micron Clarity

Mon-A-Vac VM-12/SPC Vacuum Filter System General System Operation: The dirt laden liquid enters the inlet section via gravity flow. It flows into the dirty receiving tank where the filtration process takes place. Located in the bottom of the dirty tank is a vacuum chamber, on top of which is media. The oil is drawn through the media via the filter pump capturing the particles in its fibers. This build-up of particles will form a cake, resulting in finer filtration as the cycle progresses. The clean oil is discharged into the clean tank located on top of the filter tank. When the system vacuum switch reaches its set point, an index cycle is required.

A vacuum release valve opens, breaking the vacuum in the chamber allowing oil to be drawn from the 150-gallon clean tank while new paper is indexed into position. The paper/ sludge is discharged off the end of the conveyor into the Customer supplied hopper.

Filter Tankage: The tankage will be composed of two (2) sections. The first tank is the dirty tank that contains the vacuum chamber, media and the conveyor system. This tank is approximately 400-gallons maximum with a 300-gallon working volume. The conveyor will discharge approximately 48” above the finished floor and has a plastic curtain around the discharge to prevent splashing of coolant as the solids are discharged into the hopper. We have proposed a collapsible media re-winder system to scrape the solids off the paper and wind the used media onto a disposable shaft. This will separate the swarf from the paper.

The second tank is a 150-gallon clean tank and this is where the clean pump is located to provide clean uninterrupted flow back to the machine.

All tanks will be constructed using a mild steel floor, ramp bottom and side walls. The top of the side walls will be capped with angle and all necessary internal cross bracing to provide a free standing structure. The tanks will have removable lids to allow for easy access to the tanks and also contain any mist that may occur.

2.35 HP Immersion Pump with motor rated at 2 GPM @ 580 PSI – screw spindle pump for starting without pressure. The pump must be protected at the maximum allowed operating pressure. Includes manually adjustable pressure relief valve & pressure gauge.

Re-winder: Solenoid valve is energized at filter index • Media cycle to start the air motor. The media is drawn across the doctor blade removing most of the sludge off the and into a hopper. We have revised the design of the re-winder to include a collapsible shaft instead of a wood 2” x 4” shaft for the used media to roll onto. Controls will be in the filter electrical enclosure.

Pneumatic Circuit: There will be one or more pneumatically actuated valve on the system. We will provide a single hookup point that includes a Filter/Regulator with replaceable element bowl, pressure gage and no air pressure switch. We will also supply a lock-out shut off valve for the air supply.

Electrical Control Panel: One (1) NEMA Type 12 master control panel. Filter control logic will be programmed into a Unitronics PLC. Located on the control panel will be HMI with indicating lights, mushroom push/pull E-stop for completely automatic filter operation. Fusible Rotary disconnect with short circuit protection and designed to accept a lock for lock-out purposes.

Electrical Supply: 480/3/60 with control voltage 24 VDC. A 60-Amp feed is required.
