STATUS OVERVIEW

STRATEGY:RE-ORGANISING LAND USE Land type garbage

From 1956 to the end of 2016, the number of elephants has been constantly decreasing. Nearly 100 wild elephants are killed every year. In order to protect crops and houses, the elephant was murdered. Other threats include poaching, deforestation, drought and hunger. During the dry season, many elephants destroy farmland for food.

01 BATTLE BETWEEN ELEPHANTS AND MAN IN SRI LANKA The story took place in Sri Lanka. Surrounded by Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka has beautiful natural environment. However, the contradiction between man and elephants in Sri Lanka has intensified in recent years, which is a long-standing problem. Since 1986, the number of elephants has decreased by at least 50%. Therefore, it is listed as an endangered species by the World Conservation Union. This huge herbivorous mammal needs a large area of habitat since they need numerous food and water to maintain their huge body. Yet, unfortunately, they currently threatened by the loss, degradation and fragmentation of their habitats. Trees are cut down due to man settlements and planting, which has led to the loss of habitats for elephants in Sri Lanka. At present, the large-scale loss of elephants still continues. Even some irrigation and development projects give rise to the conversion from elephant habitats to irrigated agriculture and settlements.

Project Location

Due to the residents did not plan and use the land in a reasonable manner, many waste lands emerged. When it comes to the third or the fourth term, the lands lost its fertility and turn into a waste land. Encountering such a situation, local residents prefer to develop another land, thereby, leading to the ineffective utilization of numerous lands.

The isolation belt separates the elephant activity area from the human activity area. It blocks the destruction of crops by elephants while also makes reasonable use of local garbage and pollutants and makes landscape reconstruction. Now the land becomes a wonderful land art.

A re-planning method is proposed. By means of landfill landscape construction, the separation zone between man and elephants is constructed, so that garbage lands can be turned into new lands, the waste lands become ploughs, and part of the lands is returned to forest. It realizes the self-sufficiency in local areas while also addresses the conflict between man and elephants.

Year 10: The forest is fully recovered

MOONTRIP Outer space has always been a wild dream for human being. We fancy the unknown, desperate to find out if there are other lives living in the space. With the location of the site, which is at Anacostia riverfront, near NASA Headquarters, Washington DC? In this project, I want to focus on the experience this architecture brings, the atmosphere that it creates for its audience. Along with landscape architecture that it will enhance the moon trip experience, and understand more about the moon in many different aspects. In this project particular, the site is situated by great city skyline and perfect soil condition. As a kid, we all wonder if there is space outside of earth, in this project I took my imagination to the next level and trying to implement that moon vibe to my design. By using moon like surface design on the site to create an interaction, this will allow the visitors or young adult to educate themselves with a much more enjoyable way. Once the crowed go underground, it will soon discover the manmade space area to understand the moon a little bit more.

-To extract the moon shape from the actual moon, and according to my design strategy, there are 3 exhibitions for visitors to discover.

Given the shape of the ground and to go further underground, I reshape the design to half, with triangle shape to create the structure for it.

With special connecting tunnel, it creates a preparation space before people enter each exhibition room, to fulfill the purpose of transit.

With grasshopper, I calculated the low points in the whole area that would store water. Each low point is designed as a miniature rain garden that could collect rainwater with high efficiency. When the storm came, the small “green holes” distributed in each area of the site could effectively collect water and form a ecological wetland. The site after intervention is a combination of hardscape public spaces for human to rest and ecological wetlands (calculated small holes), which can not only form an interesting waterfront landscape and provide local residents with a place to rest after meals, but also protect local residents' property and various losses caused by severe weather.

ANNUAL

The site is located beside pingshan river, shenzhen. Due to the influence of climate, the spatial and temporal distribution of rainfall in the basin is extremely unbalanced:The tropical typhoons that frequently occur in summer season would cause rainstorm and flood, which brings severe economic burden to local area. To ease the situation, a protective landscape that would activate the urban waterfront is proposed. Through the investigation, I found that the landscape types of the river basin aremainly hills, platforms and low mountains, with the terrain high in the south and low in the north. The site is one of the most severely affected area by the flood disaster. waterways railway traffic natural

The project is located in Yu z h o u c o m m e r c i a l c i t y, Jiulongpo district, Chongqing. It is a street mainly engaged in hardware wholesale and agricultural products trade. Due to the rapid urbanization, there are problems such as old infrastructure, mixed flow of people and vehicles, private cars occupying the street, small shops occupying the street, commercial space occupying green space, and insufficient occupancy of landscape space.

Conclusion. The number of people on the street is generally large. The street space division is not reasonable, such as illegal construction of shops and occupation of sidewalks. Due to insufficient green space and landscape space, the function of the street cannot serve the neighboring residents well.
