FROM UK MASTERCHEF CHAMPION EDDIE SCOTT comes MISARANA - a collection of everyday European meals brought to life with a blend of Indian spices. Best known for his maximum impact, minimal effort meals, Eddie Scott won the competition and adoration of the public with his heartfelt approach to food. In MISARANA, which translates as fusion in Punjabi, he draws upon his unique memories and heritage (cooking amazing homemade meals with his grandparents, eating in bustling French bistros on family holidays, visiting the vibrant street food stalls in India and travelling the world as a Marine Pilot) to create a collection of inspirational, yet relatable dishes. From mid-week meals to slow Sundays, MISARANA is full of recipes for all kinds of budgets and schedules, brought to life with vibrancy, panache and spice. You’ll learn to view Indian flavours as a vital foundation of home cooking, stimulating your senses and expanding your repertoire with endless variations of exciting, everyday food.

Eddie Scott’s first memories were spent in the kitchen: he grew up in a family who loved to cook great food. Childhood summer holidays were spent touring around France and it was on these adventures that Eddie discovered his love of classic regional French cuisine. Holidays were spent eating real food in cafeterias and workers cafés; where locals ate! Eddie was astounded at the variety of brilliant ingredients and the culture of food in France. His teenage years were spent teaching himself a repertoire of classic dishes and recreating his holidays at home, ranging from Sole à La Meunière to Île Flottante.

The Complete Cheese Pairing Cookbook Morgan McGlynn White Lion Publishing 9780711290945 June 6, 2024 £26.00 • Hardcover • 208 Pages 25 cm H | 21 cm W

'Morgan is the Queen of Cheese'—Simon Rimmer, Sunday Brunch ‘Each board is a piece of art'—Jose Pizzaro This is a one-stop guide to everything you need to know about pairing cheeses, combining foolproof and beautiful boards arrangements, cooked recipes that work with a number of these combinations, plus information on 150 of the world’s most popular cheeses and what to pair them with. If done right matching great cheese with the perfect cracker, a stunning chutney, perfectly ripe fruit or veg, and very often a great wine, can be deliciously rewarding. The Complete Cheese Pairing Cookbook explores all that, and more.

Find solace in your outdoor space in this delightful horticultural journey with actress Caroline Quentin, as she draws on her life-long passion for gardening. Through the pages of this gift book, Caroline shows how much joy she gets from spending time in her garden, whether it be grappling with the best way to grow plants and vegetables, or raising seeds in her potting shed. Though she now has a large following on her Instagram account, @CQGardens, her attitude to gardening is the same as it has always been – expertise helps but is not essential. Gardening should be fun and enjoyable, filled with the simple pleasures of planning, planting, harvesting and cooking. It is also a meditative and restorative pastime, and a great way to lift your spirits. Illustrated by Caroline herself, this gorgeous book mixes personal stories of her life and experiences in the garden, with practical tips, recipes for food and drink, and even the occasional favourite poem. As she likes to misquote Dorothy Parker: ‘Take to horticulture, it’s cheaper than a shrink’.

Aside from her career as an actress, she has been a passionate gardener for many years. A Short History of Flowers The stories that make our gardens

Advolly Richmond Illustrated by Sarah Jane Humphrey Frances Lincoln 9780711282223 February 29, 2024 £16.99 • Hardcover • 208 Pages 21.5 cm H | 15.4 cm W

Garden and social historian Advolly Richmond (of Gardener’s World) unravels the surprising histories of 60 flowers that shape our gardens. Have you ever wondered where your favourite garden flowers came from? Where their names derived? Or why some cultivars go in and out of favour? Every flower in your herbaceous border has a story, and in this book Advolly Richmond takes you on a tour of the most intriguing, surprising and enriching ones. Tales of exploration, everlasting love and bravery bring these beautiful flowers to life. Advolly has dug down to uncover the royalty, scholars, pioneers and a smuggler or two that have all played a part in discovering and cultivating some of our favourite species. From the lavish and exotic bougainvillea, found by an 18th century female botanist in disguise to the humble but majestic snowdrop casting a spell and causing a frenzy. These plants have played pivotal roles in our societies, from boom to bust economies, promises of riches and making fashion statements. These unassuming blooms hold treasure troves of stories.

Advolly Richmond is a garden historian, TV and radio presenter and independent researcher in garden, landscape, plant and social history. A regular on BBC Gardeners’ World as well as on BBC Gardeners’ Question Time, she is also the presenter of The Garden History Podcast, an A-Z. She lectures on garden history from the 16th to 20th centuries, and provides one-day courses for interested historians. She is passionate about promoting garden history in all its branches and likes to encourage people to value their garden and landscape heritage. She is a plant loving practical gardener with probably far too many roses and a collection of snowdrops, which kindly share their space with a range of pre-1900 heritage daffodils. She even has a variety of snowdrops named after her.

Project Mushroom A modern guide to growing, creating and experimenting with mushrooms

Lorraine Mary Caley, Jodie Anne Bryan and Kew Royal Botanic Gardens Frances Lincoln 9780711289079 May 2, 2024 £20.00 • Hardcover • 192 Pages 23 cm H | 17 cm W Mushrooms are having a moment: from the boom in growing edible mushrooms in kitchens to the fascinating impact fungi have on our environment. But while cultivating mushrooms ourselves is appealing, it’s also quite a daunting prospect. How much equipment do you need? (Not much!) Might they damage the furniture? (Not at all!) Will they take over the garden? (Absolutely not!) In this book, mushroom experts Lorraine Caley and Jodie Bryan (aka the Caley Bros.) provide around 30 projects so you can get stuck in. From learning the basics (growing grey oysters using coffee grounds) and making a mushroom bed in your allotment, to growing your own sustainable mushroom packaging and drying your produce. Project Mushroom takes out the technical jargon, answers all your burning questions and makes mushroom cultivation simple, fun and much less scary. Created in collaboration with world-renowned Kew Gardens and with an extensive introduction and a directory of mushrooms at the end, this book will become the new must-have for the modern mushroom lover.

Caley Bros was founded by sisters Lorraine and Jodie after discovering a passion for mushroom cultivation. After selling their mushroom-growing kits at farmers markets they were soon discovered by TV personality Arit Anderson and invited to contribute to Planet Studio, the gold-winning houseplant studio at RHS Chelsea 2022. They also host workshops, speak on podcasts and give talks at major gardening events, such as RHS Hampton Court and Gardeners World Live. Caley Bros are currently working with Kew to install the first ever mushroom bed in their kitchen garden. Kew Royal Botanic Gardens has built a global resource for medicinal plant names that enables health professionals and researchers to access information about plants and plant products relevant to pharmacological research, health regulation, traditional medicine and functional foods.

Save me from the Waves An adventure from sea to summit

Jessica Hepburn

Aurum 9780711291300 March 7, 2024 £17.99 • Hardcover • 360 Pages 13.5 cm H | 21.6 cm W

An adventure story – with a difference Jessica Hepburn is an unlikely athlete – she was labelled the ‘arty’ not the ‘sporty’ one in school. She hates exercise and believes the only reason to do it is for food, booze and box-sets on the sofa. However, in her forties, following a succession of hard and sad life experiences she started to try and exercise her way out of heartbreak. She has now become one of the world’s most extraordinary endurance athletes. The first and only woman (currently) on the planet to have completed the ‘Sea, Street, Summit Challenge’ – which is to swim the English Channel, run the London Marathon and climb Mount Everest (which she calls Chomolungma – the mountain’s original Sherpa name). And possibly the only woman (although this can’t be officially certified) to have listened to eighty years and over 3,000 episodes of her favourite radio programme - Desert Island Discs. Save Me From The Waves is an inspirational story of physical and mental endurance which starts on the streets of London and culminates on top of the world, fuelled by song. It explores the redemptive power of music and mountains. How family and friends can be lost and found in the most unusual places. And encourages everyone to live big and bravely when life doesn’t go to plan. Because sometimes we all need saving from the waves. And whether it’s high and far away or closer to home and in your head, an adventure will always change your life for the better.

Jessica Hepburn is an award-winning author, arts producer and adventure activist, and one of the UK's leading voices on fertility, family and endurance sport. The Pursuit of Motherhood (2014) and 21 Miles (2018) are under option to Erebus Pictures, adapted by rising star and novelist Anoushka Warden, and being developed for the screen with funding from the British Film Institute.

The Knockout

Andy Clarke

Aurum 9780711294851 May 30, 2024 £17.99 • Hardcover • 272 Pages 13.5 cm H | 21.6 cm W

Swift, brutal, utterly final: with knockouts, there are no grey areas; a KO, is a KO.... but what actually is a knockout, and why are we so fascinated by it? This book is an exploration of the physical, emotional, psychological, societal, moral and literal experience of being defeated in nature's most decisive—and visible—way. Part macro, part micro exploration, the narrative will move across physical, psychological, social, and even philosophical aspects of the knockout with expect contributions from fighters, coaches, commentators, doctors and family members. The Knockout will go deeper into the phenomena than ever seen before and explore the idea of male vulnerability and the delicate nature of many boxers, particularly pronounced once they have experienced a knockout.

After graduating from King's College, Cambridge with a degree in Classics, Andy Clarke took an interesting route from the study of ancient art and literature to sports broadcasting with a focus on boxing. He did it the traditional way learning the ropes in radio at Talksport before moving to TV where he’s worked for Sky Sports, BBC, Channel 5 and ESPN amongst many others in over twenty years in the industry. The job has taken him to Champions League finals, World Cups and Olympic Games but his most cherished position always has been and always will be at ringside. He’s commentated on thousands of fights both amateur and pro and been present at many of the biggest occasions the sport has seen over the last few years.

The Heart of the Woods Wyl Menmuir Aurum 9780711289246 June 6, 2024 £16.99 • Hardcover • 304 Pages 21.6 cm H | 13.5 cm W

What do we get out of spending time around trees? How has our relationship with trees changed over the centuries? Who are the people who use traditional and more modern methods for creating objects from wood? What are the stories we tell ourselves about woods and forests, and what do those stories do for us? What is the future for woods and trees in the era of climate change? A companion piece to The Draw of The Sea, this book will explore, through a series of interlinked essays, the ways in which we shape wood and are shaped by it, our relationship with trees, including those who protect them and seek them out, and those who use them for particular properties - the soundboard of a guitar, the stave of a bow, the surface of a desk. Each essay, which will be in part social history, interview, journal and memoir, will combine a focus tree and a focus item – oak and writing desk, yew and longbow, apple and guitar. Written in close collaboration with makers, crafters, bodgers, and woodsmen and women in order to understand better the woods they know intimately, the joys and frustrations of working with a living material, and the stories of their craft and skills, this is also a book about legacies – those a parent leaves to a child, those a society leaves to the next generation, and the legacies left by specific trees in specific places.

Praise for 'The Draw of The Sea' 'Menmuir’s novels are full of beautiful language and this, too, is a book that sings.’ Alex Preston, The Guardian 'Roger Deakin would have been proud to have written it himself. Brava. It’s a masterpiece. Liz Jensen

Linnea Passaler Fair Winds Press 9780760385654 January 11, 2024 £19.99 • Hardcover • 288 Pages 23 cm H | 17 cm W

Relieve anxiety, burnout, feelings of overwhelm, and chronic physical symptoms by healing your dysregulated nervous system with this 5-stage roadmap based on the latest science. Despite its advances, conventional medicine has often overlooked the importance of nervous system regulation in our health and quality of life. This is especially true for highly sensitive individuals, who may be more susceptible to a dysregulated nervous system. Instead of merely treating the symptoms, Dr. Passaler shows you how to make a profound shift from reactive treatment to proactive healing. Grounded in recent scientific advances in neurobiology, chronic stress, trauma, and sensitivity, this is not a short-term or one-size-fits-all solution, but a comprehensive strategy to tackle the source of your symptoms, and restore your physical, cognitive, and emotional health.

Dr. Linnea Passaler has dedicated 20+ years to serving patients, first to a small number of individuals as a successful surgeon and then thousands of people all over the world as the CEO of a digital health startup. After overcoming her own struggles with a dysregulated nervous system, she created Heal Your Nervous System (HYNS) to empower others in their healing journey. Her combination of neuroscience and somatic work helps those struggling with overwhelm, trauma, burnout, and anxiety to heal their dysregulated nervous systems and thrive.

The Elements of Art

Ten Ways to Decode the Masterpieces

Susie Hodge Frances Lincoln 9780711286658 May 2, 2024 £15.99 • Hardcover • 192 Pages 22.4 cm H | 16.4 cm W

The Elements of Art deconstructs great works of art into manageable components so that you can better understand and appreciate them. Knowing how to interpret art is one of the biggest issues facing casual gallery-goers. They may ask themselves questions like: Why is the Mona Lisa so small? Why are some frames gilded in gold while others are non-existent? What can the use of material say about a work, whether it’s an oil painting, collage or made of found objects? And does the life of the artist matter? This book answers all of these questions and more and introduces the key elements with which you can analyse and better understand artwork. From colour, medium and size to where the piece is situated, and the artist who made it, you’ll learn what’s important and what’s not so important. With The Elements of Art, you’ll learn important information about technique, style, material, location and colour that will shape you to read and interpret art. Whether you're a student, teacher, culture vulture or art enthusiast, this book will help you de-mystify great works of art, making for a more meaningful, fulfilling and enjoyable visit to any gallery.

Susie Hodge is a UK author who has written widely on art, art history and art techniques. She has published over 100 books, including The Short Story of Art, Why Your Five Year Old Could Not Have Done That: Modern Art Explained and Modern Art Explained.

Queer Art

From canvas to club, and the spaces between

Gemma Rolls-Bentley Frances Lincoln 9780711282674 May 9, 2024 £25.00 • Hardcover • 240 Pages 24.5 cm H | 19.5 cm W

Bring LGBTQ+ artistic history to life with artwork and cultural landmarks celebrating the community. The twentieth century saw landmark shifts for LGBTQ+ rights and recognition across the western world: from the Stonewall uprising, to the first pride parades and homosexuality law reforms. The years following these milestone moments have seen queer life face new challenges, celebrations, injustices and liberations. As ever, this journey has been closely mapped by art and culture. Artists working across all mediums – from painting, performance, digital and beyond – have captured key moments impacting the LGBTQ+ community, from the HIV/AIDS crisis and the rise of drag, to marriage equality and the fight for trans liberation. With a heady curation of artworks selected by leading LGBTQ+ curator Gemma RollsBentley, this book mixes the high-brow with the low, gallery stalwarts with Instagram stars, and the racy with the fabulous. With over 170 works across thematic chapters covering Queer Spaces, Queer Bodies and Queer Power this is a unique celebration of queer life – a landmark book for art lovers and anyone interested in the visual culture surrounding queer identity.

Gemma Rolls-Bentley has been at the forefront of contemporary art for over a decade, working passionately to amplify the work of queer artists and provide a platform for art that represents and explores LGBTQ+ identity. She is chief curator at Avant Arte, a visiting lecturer at the Royal College of Art and a co-chair for Queercircle, a charity that supports art, culture, health and well-being in the LGBTQ+ community.

Analogue A Field Guide

Deyan Sudjic Frances Lincoln 9780711293014 March 14, 2024 £30.00 • Hardcover • 304 Pages 27 cm H | 21 cm W

A celebration of all things analogue, from the machines that made it work—reel-to-reel tape recorders, typewriters, and telephones—to the artefacts and the culture that they made possible Recent years have seen an ever-growing wave of interest in this subject and there is a gap in the market for a complete, multi-category field guide. The book taps into an analogue renaissance— a gathering nostalgia for physical, real-world interaction with design and technology and a desire to reconnect with both things and people, something that has been eroded by the digital. The multi-category approach of this book enables it to show the deeper cultural and social significance of the analogue era with the authority to convince those who know a lot about each category and the breadth to attract the non-specialist. As well as tapping into the nostalgia market, there is also an appeal to those who collect, use and maintain these older technologies. The wide range of objects and images in this book, coupled with the text by leading design historian Deyan Sudjic, make this a standout title.

Deyan Sudjic is Director Emeritus of the Design Museum, London, and Professor of Design Studies at the University of Lancaster, UK. His books have been published in 12 languages and are highly acclaimed-the Washington Post named the Edifice Complex book of the year. BBC Radio 4 serialized his B is for Bauhaus as Book of the Week. Formerly the architecture critic for The Observer newspaper and editor of Domus magazine in Milan, Deyan is now contributing editor for Wallpaper* and writes for the Financial Times, Prospect, and The New York Times.

The Astronomers' Library

The Books that Unlocked the Mysteries of the Universe

Karen Masters Ivy Press 9780711289819 March 14, 2024 £28.00 • Hardcover • 272 Pages 23.5 cm H | 19.6 cm W

A collection of the best astronomy books from eight centuries, The Astronomers' Library is a rich history of astronomy (and astrology) publishing across Europe with outstanding publications from Germany, France, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, UK, as well as many from Persia as the middle east was the original world leader in recording the study of the stars. Humankind has looked to the heavens since the dawn of time, wondering what is out there as well as how everything works and (originally) who is responsible for it. Every tribe, race or civilization has wondered about our place in the universe and what lies beyond and what lies within it, below our feet. Lately attention has turned to the origins of the universe. From the turn of the millennium, knowledge and ideas were recorded, first on tablets or rock, then simple manuscripts and eventually in much more elaborate fashion as illustrative and engraving skills evolved. The advent of printed books saw the production of highly illustrated tomes that showed off the skills of the printers as well as the newfound knowledge of the scholars and artists that wrote them. Many of these works pushed the boundaries of illustrated publishing (and continue to do so to this day). They commanded expert illustrators and skilled engravers and hence didn’t come cheaply. They were treasured in the libraries of the wealthy and their intrinsic worth has meant that there is an incredible wealth of beautifully preserved historic examples from the 14th century onwards The significant difference we acknowledge today between astronomy and astrology has a relatively recent past, and the stars have long been associated with creatures, gods, characters and all sorts of divine beings. The study of such has a long, fascinating history that is shown in beautiful detail in the pages of these many beautiful books, and the transition from seeing the stars as characters to understanding them as spinning, celestial beings and part of our huge universe is akin to witnessing the history of the world.

Karen Masters is a professor in astronomy and physics at Haverford College, Philadelphia and co-author of 30-Second Universe with Charles Liu and Sevil Salur.
