MT BARNEY LODGE

A Journey Through History and Harmony with Nature

Nestled at the base of Queensland's fourth-highest mountain, Mt Barney Lodge has a rich history that began in the late 1980s. John and Jenny Larkin kick-started the legacy when they acquired the original Hardgrave farmhouse, Moringararah, dating back to the 1900s. What followed was a decade-long endeavor to transform the property into a renowned getaway destination, catering to a diverse range of nature enthusiasts.

Over the course of ten years, John and Jenny expanded the Lodge to include a camping ground with modern amenities, a second homestead, and two rustic cabins. Their vision and dedication turned a run-down abandoned farm into an inviting oasis in nature's embrace, setting the stage for the Lodge's continued success.

In December 2003, the reins were handed over to Innes and Tracey Larkin, who took on the responsibility of managing the property. In June 2006, they became the proud owners of Mt Barney Lodge, carrying forward the legacy with fresh ideas and initiatives. Under their guidance, the Lodge witnessed growth and development, with the addition of two new

deluxe camper trailers and the diversification of services.

Mt Barney Lodge expanded its offerings beyond accommodation, embracing adventure activities and environmental education. The Lodge became a hub for groups and conference attendees, with the function room under Boolamoola hosting various events like Wilderness First Aid Courses, craft weekends, corporate meetings, weddings, and special functions.

Innes and Tracey Larkin took pride in catering to a wide range of visitors, making the Lodge a welcoming destination for everyone. "Families from a radius of Brisbane, Ipswich, Toowoomba, Lismore, through to the Gold Coast make up the bulk of our guests, and some are returning for their tenth time! We assure you that we’ll be doing all we can to ensure your stay is memorable," said Innes, reflecting the Lodge's commitment to exceptional hospitality.

At the core of Mt Barney Lodge's philosophy lies a profound connection with nature and people. Their aim is to provide a country retreat where guests can unwind, recreate, and rejuvenate amidst the serene beauty of the surroundings. The Lodge fosters a sense of harmony with nature, projecting this ethos towards its visitors, leaving them feeling more at ease with themselves and the world.

The strategic location of Mt Barney Lodge, tucked away from main roads and surrounded by nature, makes it an ideal starting point for adventurous hikers looking to conquer Mt Barney and its associated peaks. The region's breathtaking views and abundant biodiversity contribute to its recognition as the third most significant biological hotspot in Australia.

Embracing the ideals of ecotourism, the Lodge earned NEAP accreditation in March 2002. Mt Barney Lodge promotes minimal impact bushwalking and encourages guests to explore the natural wonders thoughtfully. To preserve the integrity of this unique environment, the Lodge does not permit pets on its grounds.

"We strive to create an atmosphere for our guests that is hospitable, helpful, and stimulating," said Tracey, encapsulating the warm and inviting ambiance that guests experience during their stay.

The journey of Mt Barney Lodge is one of passion, dedication, and a deep reverence for nature's gifts. From its humble beginnings as an old farmhouse to becoming a celebrated retreat, the Lodge continues to embody the spirit of harmony with nature. Whether you seek an adventurous climb up the mountain or a tranquil escape amidst the beauty of the Australian wilderness, Mt Barney Lodge promises an unforgettable experience for all who venture to this extraordinary place.

As Innes and Tracey eagerly welcome guests, they invite you to share in the splendor of Mt Barney Lodge and experience the magic of this truly special destination.
