For some, they have a strategy of ‘cut or discount’ their price, thinking they have to undercut their competition or give the best low-price value for customers (not realising that undercutting doesn’t support longevity as a reputable business). For others, they are continually telling me they can't charge a higher price – but I know their competitors do! Most still don’t understand that the value of the service they give is more than the price they charge. In all cases, they are undercutting their business's profitability and long-term sustainability. In business, you are not a charity. It would be best if you focused on building a reliable and profitable business that pays you and creates profit to reinvest in your business for building long-term value.
So are you buying yourself a job or creating an investment?
very week I have conversations around PRICE and how businesses value themselves and their services or products. Of course, you can be underselling yourself or overvaluing yourself. However, I find that in most cases, it is underselling and not understanding how to analyse and make an informed decision on pricing strategies. The first thing I am doing as a Cashflow Business Coach is discussing the Charts of Accounts to enable business owners to understand what their numbers are telling them. Their Profit and Loss also should support your pricing strategy. This goes back to making good decisions around price and growth, being confident that the price is right to enable profitability. Your “Profit and Loss” tells the story of your price!
“ Making more money will not solve your problems if cashflow management is your problem.”
Spending time on Financial Management. Spending time knowing your numbers and your financial management (not just your accounting) is part of running a good business. Taking the time to regularly devote time to your numbers – if need be, make an appointment with yourself every week and every month and just do it.

In recent months, millions of Australians have had a bad run with their personal data. Whether it’s telecommunications companies like Optus, private health insurers like Medibank, massive online retailers like MyDeal, or smaller online wine sellers like Vinomofo — hackers are getting hold of our data regularly.
With all these data breaches happening to major corporations, just how safe are we and our personal data online and is there anything we can do to protect ourselves?
We asked the local community and here are some of the responses we got.
Unless you proactively protect yourself, you have virtually no privacy on the internet. To stay safe online you need to use a good Virtual Private Network (VPN) and have a good virus protection program are just some of the steps you can take to protect yourself online.
Yes. A lot of people do especially on social media. It’ll surprise you just how much information one can get about a person in a matter of minutes. This is why one has to be very careful with the kind of information they put out there. Don’t share what you don’t want people to see or know.
The internet is a very interesting place and safe enough once you understand the rules. Most people will interact with only a few websites and services over their entire lifetime. But the deeper you go, the less policed the internet becomes, and consequently, the more dangerous. There is always someone who will prey on you if you give them the chance, no matter where you are on the internet. Even fairly innocuous social media services have an underbelly of predators and scammers.
Excellent question. Nothing is for sure. But you can take steps to decrease your exposure online. Only deal with vendors on the web you know have excellent security. Be very careful when receiving emails that appear to come from a legit source asking for your login credentials. Only give the information necessary to obtain the services you wish to purchase. Unfortunately, as news stories show us daily, there is no such thing as ironclad security.
Here’s the thing… people, especially kids aren’t safe online, ever! In today’s day and age, any child on an open browser is a few clicks away from seeing something that would cause any parent to have a panic attack. Are there ways to help prevent this? Yes. but never say never.
Online platforms are too unsafe, as you might think. The activities behind the screen will be completely hidden, so we can’t guess how will be the person behind the screen. The virtual world is not like the real world. You have to be careful when you have any virtual conversations.
Of course, we are safe, but it depends on you where you are online. If you are online by creating a private account and have set your security and confidentiality, no one is able to harm you. :)
Former real estate agent, Debra Walker is pursuing her passion, combining her love of horses with a desire to help through her riding school.
It feels good to love what you do. For an athlete, waking up in the pre-dawn hours to start their training isn’t always a breeze. They still roll out of bed because they love what they do. They feel excited when they enter the gym, step onto the track, or climb into the pool.
If you love what you do, you won't always wake up with a smile (no one does every day), but you will look forward to starting your day. This is the case for Debra Walker, owner of Millie’s Pony Paradise Riding School.
“I love my job and wouldn't change it for the world. I feel so privileged that I not only get to be around these beautiful animals every day but the school gives me such a sense of happiness and achievement,” explained Debra.
“It is wonderful to see every student come to be with their favourite horse, they build trust with them and form a relationship. To watch them learn, love life, smile, and become more confident in themselves and to see them release the pressures of life, all while enjoying
being outdoors away from the overwhelming world of technology as well, is one of my greatest joys in life.”
Having come from a background of many years as a Licensed Real Estate Agent in Sydney, Debra’s passion was always animals, in particular, horses. So, over 8 years ago, she moved to Brisbane and decided to begin her new exciting journey in life and went to find my first horse, Millie, who was an older mare that needed rescuing after being left abandoned and very thin.
“This was where the dream started; I knew Millie was about to change everything in my life. Over the next 8 months, I would rehabilitate her to be the horse she deserved to be, with her flourishing and loving life,” explained Debra.
“During this time, I would also purchase 2 more horses, who would in turn help me start my vision of a Horse-Riding School. It is my dream for everyone to be able to spend time with these amazing animals and learn how to not only ride them but to be best friends and care for them as well.”
Discover what Debra has to say about running a successful riding school and the lessons she has learnt from looking after and working with horses.
Tell us about your journey starting 'Millie’s Pony Paradise Riding School'
It all started with a few children coming over to spend time with these horses and learning so many things including learning to ride - they just loved it. Within a few weeks that followed, Millie had fallen asleep staring up at the stars to go into heaven, so now in her honour, we decided to name the Riding School after her and lessons began.
Since we started over 6 years ago now, the number of students has dramatically increased along with the number of horses. Furthermore, I have become an NDIS Provider. I encourage all children and adults with disabilities to get involved to build their knowledge, build friendships with the horses (and people) as well as help them to gain confidence in themselves with our achievement programs. It is amazing
what horses can do for people, from healing to improving and much more. The horses are also the teachers, they teach what we cannot, which is all from the inside.
Our clients are open-minded learners who want to connect with something outside of themselves. Their attitude is progressive and they are flexible in their thinking. The client knows or at least suspects, that the skills they learn and use relating to horses are transferable to relating to people. By increasing their awareness of how horses behave the client increases their awareness of their behaviour and the behaviour of others. The client's attitude is "I am open to receiving new information and to exploring the possibilities that result".
When did you open in Allenview & what drew you to the area?
The business was started in Greenbank on an acreage property, once obtaining more suitable horses to participate in the school, I was looking to move to a larger property to be able to provide the horses with more grazing areas and to be able to provide more services to our clients.
About 6 months ago, I found the perfect property - our 80-acre property here at 77 Saville Rd, Allenview. It was even close to our previous location.
Upon first coming into the Allenview area, I was overwhelmed with the beauty and open spaces of land, horses and cattle, along with the
wonderfully friendly and welcoming residents. The wildlife here is stunning, including a large variety of birds and other wildlife, which brings such a feeling of relaxation and tranquillity. Here all the horses have room to run and have free time to enjoy being a horse. Plus there are plenty of grazing areas and room to grow and develop more services for everyone's needs.
The aim is to provide individual lessons and programs to suit each person and their needs. Currently, our services include:
• Personalised 1 on 1 Hourly Riding Lessons, • One Hour or Half Hour Lessons, • Small Group Lessons, Ground Work Lessons, • Pony Rides (for the little ones), • Handling, Horse Care & Grooming Lessons, • Kids "Horsey Funday Programs", • Pony Parties, • "Be a Stablehand" Clinics, • Trail Rides on a 40-acre area, and • School Holiday "Horsey Fun Program's
We also have a 2 Hour "Sunday Fun Day" where like most of these programs, the participants not only can learn how to ride but will also learn how to greet, groom, lead, catch and saddle up their horse properly.
In addition, we currently offer a Sponsor a Horse program which is available to anyone who wants to give our amazing horses some extra special
one-on-one attention. This includes being able to come and brush your special friend, wash them and have little rides on them. It's like having a horse that you can't have…
All of these programs can be designed to the riders' needs and preferences. The most suitable horses are hand-picked for every rider. The amazing staff are friendly, knowledgeable and eager to assist you.
What challenges have you come across & how have you overcome them?
A common challenge we normally see is the fear that a lot of adults have when it comes to hopping on the back of a horse and start learning to ride. With adults being of course more conservative, they tend to have a little voice in their head saying "but what if …?”. This is mostly overcome with some time on the ground getting more comfortable around the horses first. Over time we have found that spending time grooming, leading and enjoying the horse first, really helps each person to move at their own pace to become more confident and comfortable with horses.
The biggest challenge, I would say, is working with the changing moods of some children and teenagers in conjunction with the changing moods of some of the horses. Trying to marry these two up can at times be a bit tricky. We find that being able to use a variety of different horses enables us to mix and match to support the rider the best. As any horse owner will know, mares can be just as cranky and moody as any teenager at times...
What has been your most interesting experience since opening the riding school?
I would say that having seen firsthand how horses respond to adults and children with disabilities, in particular, is truly amazing. They seem to fully understand the certain needs of the person and adapt to be so gentle and kind. They appear to even relax to accommodate the individual.
I have had a particular student that spent over a year being on the ground just brushing and learning to walk the horse around who then decided to get on the horse for the first time. His reaction was priceless, although being nonverbal
the normally energetic boy became calm, relaxed and somewhat confident once riding the horse. His confidence has continued to improve with his riding which has continued ever since.
Here on-site at Millie's, I currently own 24 horses along with my amazing Donkey, who is the friendliest fella. He loves to let children ride him and just loves attention and huge hugs. In this group of horses, there are different breeds, shapes and sizes. From Thoroughbreds, Quarter horses, Stock, Paints, Palominos, Appaloosa and even 2 little Miniature Ponies. Everyone is an individual with their own personality, abilities and needs. I am so very lucky to have every one of them.
With lessons and activities available every day of the week (except Mondays, which is the horses' day off), student numbers have continued to increase, along with more students with disabilities, now being an NDIS provider. To date, approximately 40+ students are attending every week, which is fantastic.
When I was very little, a horse thought my neck was an apple and took a rather large bite from it! Which funnily enough, was the day I fell in love with horses. This may have been the very beginning of my journey after all.

Agood restaurant sets a high standard for its food quality and ensures that guests receive the same quality with every meal. Serving quality food can earn the restaurant a good reputation and compel guests to return for repeat visits. High-quality ingredients and an experienced kitchen staff are important to serving good food consistently. A good cook understands their guests' needs and works well with the kitchen staff to ensure that guests receive their meal the way they ordered it every time.
One of the key characteristics of a suc cessful restaurant is a positive customer experience. The staff who interact with their guests should be courteous and maintain a positive attitude. Servers should know the menu well, deliver guests’ food and drinks on time, and quickly address any issues that an unsatisfied guest may have. Preferably with that ‘Smile! And if you hav

A good restaurant should have one or more unique features that stand out in a customer’s mind and give it a competitive advantage over others. Unique selling differential, or unique selling proposition.
For example, your restaurant may be the only restaurant in town that makes its ingre dients fresh daily or it may have an amazing

view that none of the competitors have. It might be an affordable restaurant that offers coupons, discounts and kids-eat-free, or it might be a high-end, fine-dining eatery that has a themed night?
The food, decor and staff are just some of the features of a restaurant. Your eatery should be built around something solid. Funny restaurant names, for example, might be cute for the first few months, but often get old after a while. Think about your restaurant description. If you can't describe your restaurant in a sentence, you might not have a strong identity.
Anew, school-based Australian rules outreach program is set to help City of Logan high school students realise their potential on and off the field.
The Logan Lions Youth Academy, developed by Brisbane Lions Football Club and supported by Logan City Council, was launched at Mabel Park State High School in Slacks Creek today. The program will provide tailored AFL skills training for up to 50 students each year, with a strong focus on mental and physical health, nutrition, leadership and wellbeing.
The creation of the academy is part of a long-standing agreement between Logan City Council and Brisbane Lions to support the development of sport in the city.
The club has contributed more than $1 million to City of Logan sporting programs since
the construction of the Lions @ Springwood (Pannikin Street) facility in 2009.
Mayor Darren Power said the new academy was about providing students with opportunities for success not only in sport, but in other areas of life.
“We are delighted to support Brisbane Lions in the rollout of this important program, which will cater to the needs of the whole athlete, not only their sporting abilities,” Cr Power said.
“It is no secret that we have a wealth of sporting talent in the City of Logan and this is yet another pathway for our ambitious young sportspeople to succeed.”
Places in the Logan Lions Youth Academy will initially be available to interested students enrolled at Mabel Park SHS.
In coming years, the program will be extended other City of Logan senior and primary schools, which will also be able to access support for sporting infrastructure and equipment.
The academy’s first class of students will learn first-hand from high-profile Brisbane Lions AFLW player Courtney Hodder, who has recently joined Mabel Park SHS’ student support staff.
Brisbane Lions CEO Greg Swann said the club was thrilled to launch a long-term project that would provide significant opportunities for students in the City of Logan.
“Over the years many talented athletes have come from the Logan region, and we are confident the academy will see that continue,” Mr Swann said.
“One of our AFLW players, Courtney Hodder, is a great example of a young athlete who tried different sports and is now one of the best small forwards in the AFLW competition.
“With access to not only equipment and infrastructure, but our academy coaches and high-performance resources, we hope to see many athletes follow in Courtney’s footsteps.”
City Lifestyle Chair Councillor Laurie Koranski said the academy was another way the City of Logan would build on its reputation for sporting success.
“Council recognises the vital that role sport, and access to sport, plays in the development of healthy and connected communities,” Cr Koranski said.
“We are proud to support initiatives that promote and encourage participation in sport among our youth, who have so many pathways ahead of them.”
Division 3 Councillor Mindy Russell said Mabel Park SHS was an ideal home for the new sporting program.
“Mabel Park is one of the fastest-growing high schools in our city, and its staff and students are already kicking goals in many ways,” Cr Russell said.
“The school is among local leaders in education and student wellbeing with initiatives such as its Health Hub and Certificate III course in drone piloting, STEM, CityStudio and Catapult activities as well as strong achievements on the sporting field in recent years.
“I cannot think of a better fit for this groundbreaking AFL academy.”
Travel can sometimes be stressful for your body, but following these simple tips can actually keep your gut healthy when you’re on the go.
Delhi belly, Peru poos and one we Aussies know all too well, the Bali belly. Let’s be honest, it has happened to the best of us whilst travelling — usually at the worst time possible. As much as we all try to avoid it, it just happens.
While preparing for a trip, the checklist often misses out on optimising gut health and it’s worrying. A healthy gut is a great thing to have on your side, but not only that but the gut is connected to emotional and mental well-being. In other words, gut health can truly have massive influence on many aspects of your travels.
Here are some tips on how to keep your gut healthy while traveling:
Most of us know the importance of staying hydrated, especially if we’re somewhere hot.
Not only does it help with general health, it also helps with gut transit (in other words, it keeps things moving and helps prevent constipation). This can be especially useful if travelling has left you feeling a bit backed-up. If you’re in any doubt about the local tap water, buy bottled (always check the seal) and avoid ice in drinks.
Healthy eating can often go out the window on holiday – but a lack of fibre when we’re travelling can be one of the main culprits of
constipation. Pack your diet with local fruit and veg, nuts, seeds, wholegrains and beans to keep yourself regular.
Long periods of inactivity can make the diges tive system sluggish so if you’re travelling on the plane do the leg exercises or when you’re relaxing by the pool, get up and move around every hour.
How can you even avoid them in the first place? A wise and tried-and-tested approach is avoiding street food. We know it is usually the tastiest, but sometimes it exposes the gut to bacteria that will put you out for the rest of the trip.
When traveling, changes in your normal diet or routine can disrupt the natural balance of good bacteria in your gut. Taking probiotics can make all the difference. Not only can probiotics help your digestion, they can help prevent and stop travelers’ diarrhea and boost your immune system overall.

“As scary as it was, it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life to date. Who knew I had this little creative side to me to build a beautiful space that I would come every day and welcome others to enjoy,” explained Cheryle.
Kingscliff is home to a variety of upmarket boutique clothes, surf and sports shops and a great range of cafes and restaurants.
One shop you can miss out on visiting is Meraki Blu Boutique & Homewares. Located in the Peppers Salt Resort & Spa, on Bells Blvd, Meraki Blu opened in August 2019.
“In 2019, we opened our doors. After many years of dreaming about what my boutique would look like, but never really thinking it would come to fruition. I guessed I lacked the confidence to take the next step. Not having been in retail previously, I wasn’t sure where to start,” stated Cheryle, owner of Meraki Blu.
“My background was in finance and for 32 years I had the pleasure of helping people make the most important decisions with their finances – purchasing homes, vehicles and businesses. This gave me one certainty in opening this retail business – I knew I could balance the till every day!”
The name Meraki (pronounced “may-rah-kee”), is a Greek word that is used to describe doing something with soul, creativity or love – when you put “something of yourself” into what you are doing and that is exactly what Cheryle has been doing since opening her store. Jumping in head first, learning all things fashion and retail.
Each item in the store is selected by Cheryle. Alongside her team, Cheryle merchandises the store, carefully hand picking each itemcurating beautiful fashion, accessories and homewares for you to create a life with love, passion and soul.
“I am constantly complimented on how lovely the shop is, what gorgeous homewares and the ladies love the fashion labels we stock. I love offering suggestions on how to achieve a particular look whether it be what you wear or adding that something special to a place in your home,” stated Cheryle.
“I pride myself in the personalised service that you will receive as soon as you walk in our door. We are friendly and enjoy meeting and learning about our customers – let's just say we love a “chat”! We invite you to entice your senses with our gorgeous store and hope you fall in love with it as much as we have.”

If you love traversing the aisles of your local craft store to gather supplies, it may be time to rethink your strategy. While it’s admittedly fun to browse for new materials, it’s not always eco-friendly. Plus, you likely already have the supplies at home — though they might be hiding in your garbage bin.
Toilet paper rolls, empty milk cartons, broken crayons, and even styrofoam can all make for perfect art supplies. You just need to know how to use them.
Repurposing and upcycling these materials will reduce your waste and create something new and usable, which is a win for both you and the planet!
Today, we will be showing you different arts and craft projects (mainly using materials you’ll already find at home) that are great for both children and adults.
Beautiful terrariums
Bottle gets a second life as a museum-worthy terrarium as well as a home for an environmen tal science project. Be sure to add the activated charcoal and moss for plastic bottle terrariums that flourish.
Transform fabric scraps and old t-shirts into a colorful patchwork blanket. This craft is straightforward and perfect for beginners. Plus, it’s super customisable.
Feel free to make your quilt as large or small as you’d like using whatever materials you have lying around. This project saves you from buying more blankets and the environment from needlessly taking on your wasted fabric scraps. Moreover, these quilts make great gifts for family members and friends.
Take your kids on a nature walk to gather inter esting leaves, flowers, berries, etc.
To make the wreath forms, braid together strips of old t-shirts and form into a circle. Then at tach natural items into the crevices and secure with clear fishing line or hot glue. Attach a ribbon at the top to hang your wreath.
Using a tin can and wheat or grass you can create all sorts of funny characters. Have the kids create paper cut outs or use recycled items for the face, fill it with soil, and then sprinkle in some grass seed. It won’t take long for the head to start growing grass hair. You can let the hair grow long or trim it up. I think a Mohawk would be fun, what about you?

Logan Libraries will take another step towards ensuring services remain at the forefront of technology with key library management systems to be upgraded.
A new and improved online catalogue will be available for all library members from Tuesday, November 8.
New, user-friendly features include easier ways to for patrons to borrow digital library items such as eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines straight from the catalogue.
The delivery of personal recommendations based on each member’s reading history will also make it easier for patrons to discover their next great read.
The system will also alert people if they have previously borrowed an item.
City Lifestyle Chair, Councillor Laurie Koranski said the upgrade would deliver a range of benefits to library patrons.
“We have been using our current system and catalogue since 2003 and a lot has changed since then so it is time for us to refresh things,” she said.
“
This will be another step by Logan Libraries towards enabling members to have a ‘library in their pocket’ experience and this is expected to occur by late 2022.”
The new mobile library app will be able to be used on a variety of devices and will allow members to easily access their account details and search the new catalogue.
A changeover period will impact online access to the library catalogue from the close of business on Saturday, October 29 until the morning of Tuesday, November 8.
During the changeover period, patrons will not be able to log into their accounts on the catalogue, renew or place holds on library items.
Patrons can still visit any of the city’s nine library branches during this time to borrow items.
Loan and hold periods will be extended during the changeover period. Deliveries from the Home Library Service will continue for housebound clients.
Cr Koranski said Council thanks the community for its patience as these changes are made and staff learn the new system.
“These changes will help us to deliver a library service which better meets the needs of the community and enhances their reading experience.”
From Tuesday, November 8 patrons can log into their accounts with the same details as now and place holds again on items.
Loans and reservations lists will be visible as will any recommended reading lists previously created.
