ON THE COVER THIS MONTH: Koala Box Project, launching soon!

THE ART OF CREATING! WHY KIDS THRIVE WHEN THEY MAKE ART

Art is naturally linked to creativity, an attribute that is increasingly being touted as one of the most important factors for the success of individuals, organizations, and cultures.

The truth is that art is vital, it has no boundaries. It enables people to play with materials, express their thinking, problem solve and make sense of emotions. For children, art is a way to communicate their ideas. Here are just some of the benefits of art for children.

1. Art promotes creativity. Creativity is the ability to think outside the proverbial box, to string two unrelated ideas together in a new way. Solutions to major problems and breakthroughs of all kinds are linked to creativity.

Research indicates that a child who is exposed to the arts acquires a special ability to think creatively, be original, discover, innovate, and create intellectual property - key attributes for individual success and social prosperity in the twenty-first century.

2. Art builds fine motor skills. Gripping a paintbrush, drawing dots and lines, mixing colours, cutting with scissors, controlling a glue stick or squeezing a glue bottle, kneading and rolling play dough, and tearing paper—all of these tasks require increasing amounts of dexterity and coordination, yet they are so fun and rewarding that children want to do them over and over. As kids engage in art activities over time, their fine motor skills improve.

3. Scribbling is a precursor to writing. Babies and toddlers begin by scribbling randomly, back and forth. But the more they scribble, the more they can control the crayon and its movements across the paper.

As children learn to control their scribbling, they make a wider variety of shapes, eventually making all the shapes necessary to write the letters of the alphabet.

3 TIPS TO START AN ADVENTITIOUS AND SUCCESSFUL 2023 NEW YEAR

Specific, Measurable, Achievable (mindset), Rewardable, and Timed.

ENHANCE YOUR BUSINESS GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT: With good business management tools and skills. Business Plans, Strategies, Financial Management tools, cashflow tools, marketing plans, CRM management, customer journeys, 5’s for operational efficiencies, communication plans, and most of all, reporting. Identify and Create regular development, reporting system, and routines.

The more focused you are, the easier to implement.

You can’t manage what you don’t measure.

I often hear – we have a template. We can do that ourselves. Outside consultants, mentors, and coaches are often seen as an added expense you don’t need. However, they see what you don’t. They not only provide a fresh perspective, expertise you don’t have, relationships and connections you might not know, and an understanding and availability to resources you don’t have. Getting help from someone outside your business makes a big difference to the outcomes and plans, as the saying goes.

room for the answers to your challenges and problems. Take regular time to think and dream, including planned days off, weekends away, and holidays to relax. Your plan should also include exercise plans and reflection time.

Recent research shows that by taking 15 minutes of reflection at the end of the working day, you will start to perform 23% better than those that don’t take the time.

Success in business is 20% strategy and 80% mindset

ENERGISE YOUR OWN SELF-CARE: Selfcare is not selfish! Take time - Understand your emotional intelligence, and make time for your mental health and physical well-being a priority. Healthy body, healthy soul, healthy mind, healthy business. Have a plan for your energy this year.

Plan to have time out for yourself, your staff, and your family. Plan on having less stress and more energy for work. This will create higher productivity and more significant outcomes through innovation and creativity.

When your cup is overflowing with too many things, you have difficulty making decisions, and you can’t take on new ideas or make

We would love to be your success partner for 2023 – start with a conversation or strategy session. And follow up with the use of our Bizmastery Journal tools and planners.

Wishing you a happy and prosperous New Year filled with new adventures, success, and good fortunes.

YARRABILBA

Uncovering the local businesses, history and community that make up Yarrabilba.

Before the arrival of Europeans, the Wangerriburra Clan of the Yugambeh language group occupied this land; with the area still containing many artefacts and evidence of their occupation. The name Yarrabilba comes from the Wangerriburra/ Bundjalung language for place of song. The area contained two bora rings where ceremonies involving singing took place.

Original European settlers who took up land within the boundaries of Yarrabilba include Henry and Isaac Seymore, Thomas Plunkett, William Walsh, George Richardson, Alexander Watt, Daniel Kelso, Samuel Kelso, Andrew Watt and William Steele.

The Beaudesert railway line passing through the area to Canungra operated from 1915 to 1955.

During World War II the military training base Camp Cable was built between Logan Village and Tamborine, and included much of the land now part of Yarrabilba.

Formerly in the Shire of Beaudesert, Yarrabilba became part of Logan City following the local government amalgamations in March 2008.

In 2010, it was announced that Yarrabilba would be the location for a future city which is expected to contain 20,000 dwellings housing up to 50,000 people. Two other new urban centres were to be established at Greater Flagstone also in Logan City and Ecco Ripley in the City of Ipswich.

In 2011, development began for the new urban precinct. Lend-Lease was granted approval for the development of the first 93.2-hectare (230acre) stage of the project.

On 28 November 2014, a portion of Yarrabilba was excised to create a new locality, Kairabah.

In 2017, St Clare's Catholic Primary School opened, shortly followed by Yarrabilba State School which opened on 1 January 2018. Yarrabilba State Secondary College opened on 1 January 2020 and in 2021 San Damiano College opened, initially offering Year 7 schooling.

Today, Yarrabilba is a tight-knit, active community with a broad range of goods, services and local businesses and is home to 10,455 people (according to the 2021 Estimated Resident Population). On the following page is a selection of iconic local businesses that make up the Yarrabilba community.

JIMBOOMBA

Uncovering the local businesses, history and community that make up Jimboomba

Situated perfectly between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, Jimboomba has become a popular location for working families to raise their families; with a developing business hub, welcoming community atmosphere and natural environments.

However, Jimboomba has come a long way since it was established in 1845. In the days of the large grazing leases, Jimboomba was known as Gimboomba. Gimboomba is a Gugingin word (from the Indigenous people of the area, Yugambeh country) meaning ‘place of loud thunder and little rain’.

The land in the region was taken up by Thomas Dowse in 1845. In 1848, it was transferred to Sydney publican, Robert Rowlands. In 1851,

it was transferred to Andrew Inglis Henderson and operated as a sheep run and later for cattle grazing. Jimboomba House was built around 1851 for the Henderson family. It served as a stagecoach depot on the Casino mail route.

The first hotel in Jimboomba, the Norfolk Hotel, was established by Alex and Agnes Jennings in 1880. Steven Tudman took over the hotel in 1882 when Jennings moved to the Waterford Arms Hotel.

In May 1885, Henry Markwell applied for a licence for a hotel in Jimboomba and built a new house for the purpose. However, in June 1885, Samuel Manning took over Tudman's hotel and renamed it the Traveller's Rest. Markwell withdrew his application. Manning

maintained the licence in 1886, then moved to the Railway Hotel in 1888. All this activity in Jimboomba may have been related to the pegging out of the railway survey.

In 1885, the Beaudesert Railway was being pegged out and the siting of the line through Jimboomba ensured the prosperity of the area. The Jimboomba station became a place for timber getters to load timber. A sawmill had been established nearby in 1883, by C Smales.

In May 1890, the Jimboomba provisional school was established in a hall owned by the Presbyterian Church. Patrick Culligan from North Maclean was the first teacher. A local named Alex Harrison was appointed as a teacher in 1892. In 1900, a new school building was constructed.

The area continued to slowly grow. In 1953, a community hall was built and the first significant shopping centre was built in 1984. Hills International College began construction in 1991, on the former property of Andrew Inglis Henderson. Emmaus College opened in 2002.

Today, Jimboomba is a tight-knit local community with a thriving business hub and is home to 13,201 people (according to the 2016 census). Here is a selection of some of the iconic local businesses that make up the Jimboomba community.

W E E K E ND G Noosa etaways

One of the most popular beachside destinations in Australia, Noosa, on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast has everything you could want from a holiday. Lakes, stunning beaches, national parks and a hinterland, markets, day spas, golf courses, excellent food and lots of activities. Whether you want action or relaxation, Noosa has it all.

From zooming down the river to meandering through the markets, there’s always something to do in this seaside town.

While many people associate Noosa with the sand and sea, the seaside resort town is surrounded by lush greenery and bushland. The Noosa Hinterland is perfect for nature lovers and has some excellent walks to enjoy, even for the least green among us.

Why not check out the Botanic Gardens? Just a short drive from Cooroy on the shores of Lake Macdonald. There are more than eight hectares of native and international plant species to discover and there’s an abundance of wildlife that call the gardens home. There’s also a lily pond, picnic areas and playgrounds for the kids.

For those looking for exceptional walks around Noosa, look no further than the Great Noosa Trail. Explore the eight connected trails that pass through the national park and parklands through the Hinterland. There are short hourlong strolls through to a few hours’ trails.

Along the trails, there are fantastic lookouts to admire the scenery as you go, including a spectacular view of the mountains.

Speaking of spectacular views, head to the top of Mt Tinbeerwah. You can drive almost to the top so don’t worry about exhausting your legs too much and the walk itself is only about 300m long. The viewing platform at the top provides 360-degree views from the north of the Sunshine Coast. For the stargazers, head up around midnight. The mountain is out of range of the suburban lights so the starry sky shines bright as can be.
