IMPORTANCE OF EARLY CHILDHOOD LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT
Achild’s early years are the foundation for their future development, providing a strong base for lifelong learning and learning abilities, including cognitive and social development. Babies are born ready to learn, with around 90 percent of brain development occurring in the first five years of life.
Vision and hearing pathways develop first, followed by early language skills and higher cognitive functions. A child's vocabulary often quadruples between ages two and four. These connections become more complex over time as children grow, and influence brain devel opment to create positive learning behaviours from an early age.
Research shows that children who participate in quality preschool programs are more likely to arrive at school equipped with social, cognitive, and emotional skills. Higher levels of education al success, employment and social skills have all been linked to moderate levels of participa tion in quality early childhood education. There are a large variety of early learning centres available to Logan parents.
Kaleidoscope Kids Early Learning Centres follows the Early Years Learning Framework to extend and enrich children’s learning from birth to five years and through to school. They combine routine and spontaneous activities to provide a varied and exciting curriculum for children.
While at Springwood Community Kindergarten, it is more focused on play inspires learning. For 45 years, their experienced Early Childhood
teachers have delivered engaging programs that balance play, learning and school readi ness in a supportive environment.
Whereas Amana Family Day Care is an ap proved form of child care that is provided in the Educator's own home. The home-based setting provides a familiar and safe learning environ ment. Family daycare can offer care during standard hours, evenings, before/after school, during school holidays and in some cases overnight and weekends.
But what should parents do if they notice their child is not meeting those important mile stones? Eli’s Place is here to help. Eli's Place works closely with families to provide support, strategies and education to build long term skills and results in the form of Occupational Therapy.
Occupational Therapy enables people to com plete the activities that they find meaningful. For children this might look like playing, sleeping, feeding themselves, learning, regulating them selves and becoming more independent in all activities of daily living.
Occasionally children need a little extra assistance with their work and that is where 10/10 Tutoring services come in. Working with children from kindergarten to Grade 12 and at times on into adulthood to help them develop positive attitudes, skills and strategies required in becoming a lifelong learners for the fast-changing world.

SAFE HAVEN COMMUNITY
HAVEN COMMUNITY
Safe Haven Community and White Lady Funerals are asking locals to accept the challenge and host a World’s Biggest Dinner Party on May 14, 2022, to raise funds and awareness of the work Safe Haven Community does to support women at risk of domestic abuse.
Safe Haven Community Executive Director Jaeneen Cunningham said women were the fastest growing group of homeless people in Australia, and domestic and family violence was the leading cause.
The charity provides early intervention path ways, allowing women and their children to escape abusive relationships before the situation escalates to physical violence.
“Your involvement in the World’s Biggest Dinner Party will help provide crucial
accommodation desperately needed additional support services, that will directly reach over 1000 women a year across Australia,” Ms Cun ningham said.
White Lady Funerals Queensland Regional Manager Tania Dell’Amico encouraged people, businesses and community groups to host their own dinner party event in May to support Safe Haven Community.
Ms Dell’Amico said week in week out her team saw the heartbreaking consequences of the ep idemic of domestic violence, and it had to stop. “As a funeral director I have looked after too many families that have lost loved ones due to domestic and family violence,” Ms Dell’Amico said.
WWW.SAFEHAVENCOMMUNITY.COM.AU | MAY 14TH 2022
“Raising awareness of this contemptible issue is an important priority for us. Our people are on the front line of this issue. Our people don’t want to continue burying the victims of domestic violence.
“The impact of domestic violence affects so many people. I want us to be a part of the change, so we are not called to look after ‘that women’, ‘that family’, ‘those children’. That’s why White Lady Funerals has chosen to spon sor the World’s Biggest Dinner Party.”
Ready to take the challenge?

SAFE HAVEN COMMUNITY
By Jaeneen Cunningham.
Safe Haven Community is a NFP small charity that helps women and chil dren fleeing domestic abuse. We are registered with the ACNC and the ATO, so all donations are tax deductible.
Our service offers temporary accommodation (from kind citizens in the community that donate their spare rooms to us to manage) so women have somewhere to go rather than sleeping in their cars when they flee. We have counselling services to help you with support and just to have someone to talk to. We also accompany women to court when they are usually alone and find just seeing the perpetrator in court intimidates them. So having someone by their side makes a world of difference.
Safe Haven Community targets vulnerable women who are experiencing coercive control (invisible abuse like economic, sexual, verbal, fear and intimidation, gaslighting and threats, just to name a few). It’s the abuse that you can

not evidence. It’s the shame that women feel. If we can help women and children as an early intervention process, there will be less women & children being killed, like Hannah Clarke and her children.
Sadly, offering a service like ours, does costs a lot of money. Although most of us work vol untarily and give more hours in a day towards our cause, we are dedicated to ensuring the vulnerable are supported. We still have to pay operational costs to run the service. As we are not funded by any Government organisations, we need to rely on the kindness of citizens and business to help us raise funds.
Each year we organise fundraising activities and we have had many businesses support us in these efforts. This year we have had high teas and fashion fundraisers. We do like to chose one major event that will bring awareness to our service and raise a substantial amount to increase our capacity.
This year we are organising ‘The Biggest Dinner Party’. There are many people in society that want to help but just don’t know what to do. So, we thought how great would it be to have a dinner party in your own home, invite some friends, everyone can bring a plate and there would be a small cost which would go to Safe Haven Community.
Everyone can be innovative with the concept. You could have beer and pizza to a 3-course dinner party. The choice is yours. We have had some organisations like Rotary who are or ganising a large gathering on a private property, with bands etc. So, it can be whatever you like, just as long as you bring awareness to domes tic abuse and how it can affect anyone and you have fun along the way.
What is really important with this project is ensuring more women and children are saved. They do not become homeless or worse still a
statistic. If we can get others in the community to help spread the word, that is the ultimate goal for us.
We opened this up to the whole of Australia and to friends and family overseas. Domestic abuse has no boundaries, it happens all over the world.
We have been lucky with this project to have White Lady Funerals get behind us and sponsor us. White Lady Funerals is Australia wide and will be supporting us by holding events and advertising the event within the community.
So, we are asking the community to support Safe Haven Community by registering to hold a dinner party and raise some much needed funds. To have fun while bringing awareness to the community about our service to help the vul nerable. To be educated about coercive control and to feel great that you have done something great to save someone’s life.
Register yourself or a team and please spread the word to your family, friends and work colleagues to join in. https://www. safehavencommunity.com.au/worlds-biggest-dinner-party

CELEBRATING LOGAN’S PETS!
Pets come in all different shapes and sizes; from dogs and cats to birds, fish and reptiles. There is a pet out there for everyone! With National Pets Day on the 11th of April, we come together to celebrate our pets. Although if you are a pet owner, you know there’s not a day that goes by that you don’t celebrate your animal companion!
On National Pets Day, it’s an opportunity to lavish their pets with the adoration and care they deserve (well, more than on any other day). Taking them out for a walk or a drive, buying their favourite treats, or getting them a new toy to play with from local pet stores like Comfy Critters in Loganlea or Little Wardy’s Pet and Aquarium in Slack Creek, are just some of the ways that pets are spoiled just a little extra on this day.
Treat your pet to an experience. You can’t go past Pooch Avenue in Slacks Creek, Queensland’s first luxury, 5-star Dog Grooming Salon, Day Spa, Day Care and Boutique or Puppercuts, a professional dog grooming salon
in Shailer Park. If doing it yourself is more your style, get all your grooming supplies from DGS Imports.
Are you looking for some time away? Brooke’s Inspired Pet Services has got you covered for everything from Pet Sitting, Mobile Grooming, Pet Photography and much more! If you are a bird owner, Brisbane Bird Minding in Rochedale South is the place to go. Catering for short- and long-term stays, personalised care and attention in a home away from home environment.
Are you looking for an exciting place where your family pet can interact and socialise in a safe and stimulating environment? Then Canine Cubby - Activity Centre for Dogs in Loganholme is perfect! They also offer Aquatic Rehabilitation Therapy, which is great for dogs recovering from several injuries, degenerative conditions and those who are overweight.
Ensure your pet is living its best life at the Daisy Hill Veterinary Clinic. A local family-owned and operated vet that has been in the area for over 30 years.
But the day is not all about them, why not gift yourself an everlasting memento of your beloved pet with an original hand-painted watercolour pet portrait or gift from Lucy & Coco Pet Portraits & Gifts.
So the question remains, how will you celebrate your pet this National Pets Day?

TAKE CHARGE AND BECOME A PURPOSEFUL COACHING LEADER
Iget asked, “how do I learn to be a better leader,” or we have some misunderstanding and disappointment in staff performance.
So much has been happening to ourselves and our teams this year. It is all putting a lot of pressure on people, not just what is happening at work or home but also amazing how many are looking at the world’s unrest. We need to be part of a positive culture to keep productivity (for ourselves and our teams). Something that makes us feel connected, more valued again, a need to feel your commitment and to grow and be part of something future-focused.
So what are some tips on Leadership and resolving employment relationships? Firstly remember:
“Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself; When you become a leader, success is all about growing others” Jack Welch.
My tips are:
• To KNOW YOURSELF, understanding your EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE - your emotional awareness of what makes you tick and how you interact with others. How can you inspire others? Know the strengths and weaknesses of yourself and your team.
• Develop a very clear VISION and SET CLEAR GOALS to stay focused. Know your strategies and live your strategies. You are the role model for everyone’s FUTURE FOCUS.
• Have BUSINESS VALUES (5-6 not too many) that guide everyone in performing and treating
their fellow team members and customers.
• Create great COMMUNICATION AND ENERGY. DON’T leave people out of the loop, give, and receive feedback- communication has to be two ways, but it starts with you. Listen, Listen, Listen and spend time with all your people.
• Create a CONVERSATION AND COACHING CULTURE (asking questions). Do this in both formal and informal ways by creating those learning opportunities, both big and small, for continuous development and encouragement.
• Create TRUST – be approachable, honest, and committed. Don’t blame - encourage learning. Trust your team to have a go but support them when they fall and make mistakes.
All these tips apply whether you are a solo entrepreneur or a team.
Lastly, create a SUPPORTIVE TEAM around you – internally and externally - Mentors, Coaches, HR organisations. Know when to ask for help; the buck will always stop with you, but we can help too.

AFTER FIVE YEARS, ARTS IN THE OLIVES IS
BACK!
Considered by many to have been the Scenic Rim’s most popular arts event, BADCAP is proud to announce that, after a break of five years, ARTS IN THE OLIVES is back! It’s still in the Scenic Rim, one of the Lonely Planet’s top destinations in the world, but it’s just changed olives groves which takes it from south of Beaudesert to east of Kalbar.
2008 saw the first Arts in the Olives take place at Worendo Grove in the Lost World. BADCAP (Beaudesert and District Community Arts Project Assn. Inc) had a wild idea to host an International Sculpture Symposium in Beaudesert and extra funds were required. The event was so successful it ended up running for ten years.
As many people have missed Arts in the Olives so much, there has been a lot of pressure to recreate this special arts event and it is with much pleasure that BADCAP, in conjunction with the Olive View Estate, will bring you 2022 Arts in the Olives.
So much will be the same – arts workshops and demonstrations, artisan stalls, a day and night music program, free children’s workshops and Arts in the Olives’ very own art gallery, but some thing new will be the sustainability and lifestyle sessions.
Arts in the Olives is moving from one side of the Scenic Rim to the other. Olive View Estate at Kalgun is the 2022 venue. Olive View Estate is at 58 Kulgun Road, Kulgun which is a few kilometres from Kalbar on the western side of the Scenic Rim and only an hour from Brisbane.
The other major change will see the activities being held over two full days with entertainment being a highlight as the sun sets over the ranges on the Saturday night. The Scenic Rim Regional Council has also chosen Arts in the Olives to be the venue for its second Arts Dinner of the year which will feature inspirational talks by practi
tioners sharing their journeys and explaining how their art connects to community.
Another first for Arts in the Olives is that there will be an option to camp overnight – either BYO tent or rent-a-tent!
The ever-popular Food Trucks featuring international gourmet food, using as much locally-grown produce as possible, will be another reason not to miss this highly anticipated event.
With all the workshops to choose from, it’s guar anteed there is going to be something to appeal to everyone. Participating in a workshop in the mid dle of an olive grove in the Scenic Rim, one of the most picturesque spots in the world, surrounded by other creative people, will again be the year’s highlight for many.
Among the many workshops are blacksmithing, mask making, limestone sculpture, mosaics, felting, bamboo flute making, weaving, stitching, indigenous art, metalsmithing, eco-dyeing, pottery, jewellery and pizza making. To see the complete list go to www.badcap.org
And to all the mothers, who have been treated to an outing to the Lost World for Mothers’ Day in the past, they will be pleased to hear that Mothers’ Day weekend has been chosen again. The dates to diarise are Saturday 7 May and Sunday 8 May.
Brochures with the full exciting program are now available, and as workshops always fill quickly, it is recommended that everyone books online just as soon as they can. A discounted price for entrance tickets will also be available online with one or two day passes available. (Workshop participants do not pay an entrance fee.)
Brochures are now available at the Libraries, Cultural Centres, coffee shops, Visitor Information Centres or from Kalico Country in Brisbane Street Beaudesert. Details are also available online www.badcap.org
