In the first article on this topic, it was mentioned that the first sale of land in Beenleigh was at the old site of the town at what is now known as Eagleby. In this article the second sale at the new site is featured.
The sale occurred on 27th September 1870 and 31 lots were offered for sale ranging from about one acre to just over five acres all at the price of £4.0 per acre.
The map below shows most of the lots and their location. (This map was produced in 1916 and shows the railway line and station, which of course did not open until 1885 with the extension to Southport in 1889.)
Surveyors used a chain of 100 wire rods or links each 7.92 inches (201.168 mm) long. This was known as the surveyor’s chain or Gunter’s chain. A ‘standard’ quarter-acre block is 1 chain wide and 20 chain deep, or 66 feet by 165 feet. Thus, the surveyors could accurately measure the lots, for example Lot 29 is five acres, two roods and 28 perches that at £4.0.0 per acre cost £22.14.0.
City of Logan Mayor Darren Power is urging residents whose homes were affected by flooding earlier this year to register for a new buy-back and funding program.
The Resilient Homes Fund will assist eligible homeowners to repair or retrofit their homes to incorporate flood-resilient design and materials in liveable rooms or areas.
Homes in high-risk areas that aren’t suitable for retrofitting may take part in a buyback scheme. The fund is jointly funded by the Queensland and Australian Governments.
Mayor Power said homeowners who experienced flooding should consider registering their interest.
“Unfortunately, much of South East Queensland was built on a floodplain and some areas of Logan are particularly prone to flooding,” Councillor Power said.
“This initiative is opportunity to fix some of the more high-risk homes and make our city safer for residents in low-lying areas.
“More than $700 million dollars has been set aside but there are many places in Queensland that are eligible so it’s important our flood-impacted residents don’t delay in registering their interest.”
For home buybacks, funding will be provided to Council to purchase the house and land. The land would then be re-zoned into non-liveable uses such as open space and green corridors. For further information visit Resilient Homes Fund.
The fund is administered by the Queensland Government. Logan City Council cannot answer inquiries relating to the program. Nearly 200 homes in the City of Logan were flooded in the February/March rain event. In response, Council launched a flood recovery package that supported impacted residents, small businesses and the environment.

There is one gift – regardless of the occasion – that rarely fails to delight. From birth through to our final moments – flowers have been there. They are a speechless gift that says so much. Flowers let people know they are thought of, loved, appreciated, celebrated, missed, supported. They have a unique ability to provide a moment of happiness in the darkest of times. That is the true power of flowers .
The power of flowers and their ability to contribute to our emotional health and well-being has been well researched and documented. Research shows that the artificial arrangements we scatter lovingly around our living spaces can indeed have a positive impact on not only our home aesthetic, but also our mood. The bright colours, delicate balance of greenery, and everlasting lustre, are key components of the allure of artificial arrangements in the home. Research conducted on the psychological impact of
plants in the home shows the vibrant colours found within plants and floral arrangements can actually reduce stress, promote self-esteem, and inspire creativity.
And look, it would be remiss not to mention the benefits of living greenery that cannot be replicated – such as improving oxygen quality in the air they inhabit. However, as many plant lovers will attest, there are several challenges when it comes to nurturing and raising indoor plant life. Seasonal and chronic allergies prevent many people from being able to display blooms in their home. Some of us are less green-thumbed than others, and nothing kills a good mood like seeing the first hint of a brown, drooping leaf – signalling the worst is yet to come
So, dear reader, whilst there is a place for both living & artificial arrangements inside the home, one way or another, it’s inarguably important to bewitch your indoor spaces with the magic of the outdoors. Here at Beautiful Budget Bouquets that is exactly the passion that drives us to keep designing, creating, and delivering our arrangements to you.
The Beenleigh Bowls Club (BBC) has been a part of the fabric of the community for over 70 years and is more than just a Bowls Club. Club Manager, Simon and his team pride themselves on providing the best possible service to members of their community and giving an experience to remember.
Discover what Club Manager, Simon had to say about this beloved club.
Tell us about yourself.
Hi, my name is Simon. I've been in the industry for about 20 years and nearly 5 years at BBC. I'm a big sports fan and love a hit of golf when I get a chance. However, all of my time away from work is spent with my daughter.
Describe a day in the life as the Beenleigh Bowls Club Manager.
I have an early start. I get to the club ready for a 9 am open, then catch up on some office duties before going out on the floor for lunch service while having a chat with patrons and a quick bite to eat. I finish off my day by completing some office work till it’s time to go home.
Tell us a bit about the history of the club?
The club was founded in 1948, along with were sixty foundation members. It is said that the idea of the club originated one night, as a group of mates having a drink at Jack Toomey’s Bar Beenleigh. Over the past 70 years, there have been several extensions and alterations to the Club House, with the first building being a tem porary old army hut from Camp Cable Military camp.
Who are some of the most memorable members you’ve encountered during your time?
I will always remember my first week at the BBC. I was working the bar at the time. One of our most liked and very regular locals, Terry O'Leary was in for some liquid hospitality. On this partic ular Friday night, I had decided to refuse service to Terry and didn't he carry on about he had never been refused service.
This went on and on for quite a while before he got sick of complaining and walked himself home. No harm was done. The following day, when I saw Terry next, he said to me I was right and thanked me for not serving him again. From that day, if he saw anyone else getting a little worse for wear, he would always bring out the story 'the night I refused him service' and would back me up every time if I had to pull anyone into line.
Are there upcoming events happening at the Beenleigh Bowls Club?
Bowls pennant season is coming up for both men and women soon, so there will be a lot of bowls played here in the coming months.
What’s your go-to recommendation on the menu?
It has to be the classic pub meal. The Chicken Parmigiana with sweet potato chips is great here.
What is your favourite thing about the Beenleigh community?
There is a real sense of community in and around the club, everyone is always so nice and willing to help you with anything.
What's a little-known fact about the Beenleigh Bowls Club?
The land the Bowls club is now on was bought for 100 pounds.
For more information about the club, visit their website https://beenleighbowlsclub.com/ or Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/ beenleighbowlsclub/.

The skies were illuminated last June as communities all over Queensland participated in Multicultural Australia Logan’s Luminous Lantern Parade.
Now in its 15th year, LUMINOUS is one of Queensland’s largest welcome events, captur ing the imagination of Queenslanders with its spectacular use of light to symbolise hope and create welcome for new Queenslanders.
The LUMINOUS Lantern Parade is now an iconic event on the annual Queensland events calendar, held in conjunction with Queensland Day (6 June) to celebrate Queensland’s birth day and our unique culture, heritage, people, places and industries.
The spectacular lantern procession began at Flowstate, South Bank, before winding its way on a short and symbolic walk down the prome nade taking in the sites of the city skyline.
The Parade ended at the South Bank Piazza for a vibrant World music concert, with the lanterns bathed in the luminous light sym bolising welcome and hope for many people from all over the world, especially our newest Queenslanders.
I was lucky enough to be able to take part in the Lantern Parade in South Bank, alongside my mum and sister. We were among the hundreds who braved the cold and lined the streets, in our warmest jackets and winter gear to watch (and cheer) as each nationality paraded past. Each culture was on display, with several adorned in their traditional outfits, while some delighted the crowd with traditional music and dancing. I was amazed at the amount of detail and effort that went into creating the lanterns. Some of my favourite lanterns from the night were the ones shaped like different animals.
This year Multicultural Australia featured LUMI NOUS in neighbourhoods across Brisbane and in Toowoomba and Rockhampton, spreading the message of welcome across Queensland. One of the neighbourhoods that took part was Logan.
On the 11th of June, people came together (despite the cold weather) at the Kingston East Neighbourhood Group at Meakin Park in Slacks Creek to celebrate and welcome Logan’s diverse community.
From 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm, locals were delight ed, amazed and entertained by an ambience of beautiful lanterns, live music, cultural dancing, fun activities and a delicious sausage sizzle.
It was a fantastic night to be involved in and I would love to see it continue well into the future, in all communities across Queensland.
What is your name and position at PCYC Beenleigh?
Hello, my name is Kim Norris and I am the new Gymnastics Coordinator at PCYC Beenleigh. I started working here on the 6th of June 2022.
What is your experience with Gymnastics?
In 2007, I started coaching when my daughter started Gymnastics. I am an advanced qualified gymnastics coach with my intermediate judge's qualification.
I have coached under 5's right through to level 10. This consists of under 5's recreational gymnastics to school-based gymnastics for pre-preps and preps, competitive school gymnastics, development gymnastics and through to competition levels.
I have also had experience in club management and mentoring staff at a successful competitive club. I spent 3 years coordinating and developing an under 5's program and a schoolbased program in a purpose-built gymnastics’ venue for 2 Day Cares. During this time, I also did my certificate 3 in childcare.
This has now led me to the Gymnastics Coordinator's role at PCYC Beenleigh.
What do you enjoy most about teaching kids Gymnastics?
I love seeing all children develop, achieve new skills and goals and grow. Gymnastics teaches so many fundamentals.
What is your favourite class/age group to teach in Gymnastics?
I love teaching all age groups, they are all so different. I love to be part of all the development of different age groups.
What are your plans to bring into the PCYC Beenleigh Gymnastics program? To help share my knowledge and help mentor our up-and-coming beginner coaches. These young beginner coaches have been gymnasts
with PCYC Beenleigh for many years and now have decided they also want to be a part of the development of the children.
I want to help grow the club; have more classes and time slots to offer to the community as I know it can be sometimes difficult for parents to get their children to after-school activities, as they may be working or other activities. Having more time slots available will help working and busy parents.
I want to help coaches and children understand why they do what they do and love what they do. I want the children to look forward to coming to gymnastics and tell all their friends about what they are learning and how much fun gymnastics is.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
If your child loves to jump, run, cartwheel, and do handstands, bring them along for a free trial. We can teach them how to do this in a controlled, safe environment.
Also, if your child is lacking confidence in the playground or needing some help with coordination, we will help them. Our caring coaches will nurture and help the children grow.

CAMP LIKE A PRO
Written by Matt Ayris, 4WD lover & Camping EnthusiastCamping in Queensland has always been quite a popular hobby for many generations, varying from beaches around Queensland’s picturesque coastlines to the rocky mountains of the scenic rim and many more.
One of the wonderful things about camping is that it is so accessible to everyone. If you’re a keen first-timer there are a few things that you will need to get started.
Accommodation:
Starting of course with accommodation. The classic camper will always go for a tent; however, many contemporary varieties are stemming from the classic, which opens the camping experience up to many more people. Such as a camper trailer, caravan or for the real “upper class”, ‘glamping’.
Destination:
Your chosen destination will rely heavily on your form of ‘accommodation’. For example, if you have a tent your options for a site are far LESS limited. However, you must still keep in mind the toileting situation (when you gotta go, you gotta go, so it’s important to have a public or portable toilet in the vicinity).
If you are taking a camper trailer (provided you have an adequate vehicle to tow the trailer) you must try to find places that have easily accessible sites to enter with the extra towing weight. Caravans, on the other hand, are far
MORE limited due to their size and weight which can make it harder to access some sites. In addition, many camping areas (national parks/4x4 parks/camping grounds) may not allow such vehicles.
Overall, when finalising your site selection, finding an open, flat area will be the best for your experience.
Sleeping:
Everyone loves their sleep. There is nothing worse than an uncomfortable mattress to reside on at the end of the day. The weather and seasons will impact your experience, so a comfortable and warm bed will be crucial.
Some general bedding options are blow-up mattresses, stretchers and self-inflating roll-out mats. Good brands include Wanderer, Kings and Dune.
Many people just use bedding off of their beds at home with additional blankets if required.
Food:
At the end of the day, food is a critical part of any trip. Some places may offer public kitchen spaces while others may not. If this is the case, then there are a few essentials that are typically used. These include eskies or car fridges to keep meat and other perishables cold, as well as barbecues or portable gas burners.
These examples are a good start if you are just a beginner or if you’re sleeping in tents and don’t have a camper trailer or caravan.
Caravans offer different ranges of items such as bigger fridges and ovens.
When deciding what food to bring, canned food is a simple but handy option; not only does it have a longer shelf life it also is much easier to store.
Reusable plastic plates and old cutlery from home are the best things to bring for eating and cooking. This goes for cooking utensils also.
Being comfortable on your trip is critical, especially after a long day of exploring. That is where a comfortable chair is vital. My preference for the chair is the ‘Wanderer moon chair’, which you can buy from BCF. Some good brand of chairs includes Wanderer, Oz trail and Kings.
Fold-out tables are also a highly recommended item which can also be bought from places like BCF, Anaconda and Bunnings. Some good brands of tables include Wanderer, Oz trail and Kings.
Places:
Some camping locations are dependent on the seasons but are still fun either way. Here are a few great locations to visit even in the winter months:
Scenic Rim
Lake Wivenhoe
Camp Undulla
Farm stays such as Lake Haigslea farm
So this winter, why not go out, brave the cold and explore some of the amazing scenery that we right here in our back yard.

A favourite with the locals, George’s Grill Seafood & Burgers is popular for its range of top-quality seafood, varied cooking techniques and original recipes. Its menu features traditional and specialty items including Grilled Baby Octopus and Moreton Bay Bugs, and the famous gourmet burgers. The fish here is beautifully battered, crumbed or grilled and is melt-in-your-mouth delicious. A must try visit!
Whether you like sweet and soft or crunchy and succulent, Little Red Dumpling serves some of the best and most authentic dumplings in Logan. Prepared daily, their dumplings are made from fresh local ingredients and served with a delicious secret sauce. Why not expand your repertoire and try some of their ‘Not Dumplings’ dishes. Stand-outs include fried chicken baos and the wonton in red chilli sauce. They are open 7 days from 11am-9pm.
The recent severe weather and floods across Southeast Queensland partic ularly in Logan have impacted many communities and sporting clubs that were inundated with floodwater.
No one knows this better than Beenleigh Multisports Association which was inundated with water, causing the fields, facilities and the lower level of the clubhouse to be submerged in water.
Now several months later after the water had receded and an extensive clean-up was done, the club is now slowly started getting back to normal.
With their fields looking better than ever, it's time to dust your boots off and get back out into the community. Show your support and be a part of a fun and inclusive social sport! With the help of the community, we can get sporting clubs like the Beenleigh Multisports Association back on their feet and operate at 100%!
Why not take part in the new season of Touch football and TRL (Touch Rugby League). There are individual, small groups and team options available for both males and females.
