HOW TO CHOOSE FLOWERS FOR EVERY OCCASION

Picking out the right flowers for different occasions can be challenging. You may wonder, “What kind should I get? What co lour should they be?” Many factors must be con sidered before making your selection. Knowing the symbolism and connotation of flower types and flower colours can help you in choosing just the right arrangement.

Anniversary: Red or pink roses are a mainstay, but also a fail safe; as these colours represent love and passion for one another. It's best to avoid yellow flowers in this scenario, as they represent friendship or in the case of yellow carnations, disappointment.

Birthday: In addition to flowers that signify joy or friend ship, each month has a specific flower. If these are for a friend, rather than a significant other, yellow flowers are great, as these symbolise friendship, optimism and joy. Just avoid giving yellow carnations.

Date:

While it is mostly considered an obsolete gesture to bring flowers on a first date, the idea of giving flowers to someone you’ve gone out with a few times is still a good one. Popular choices include orchids, tulips and dandelions, as they are beautiful but not overwhelming for your date. If possible, it's best if you bring the flowers to your date’s front door, to spare them from having to be carried around during the whole date. Sympathy

Flowers:

Sympathy flowers are typically sent to the home of those grieving. Generally, it’s never too late to send these. Chrysanthemums, lilies, daisies and roses are the most popular. Because it’s a good time to cheer up those who are morning, a bright, colourful arrangement would not be inappropriate. Pink, blue and yellow can invoke feelings of hope and rebirth.

Mother’s Day:

There is no wrong way to go here. Flowers for Mum are always a nice touch on her special day. Some of the more popular flowers include pink carnations which represent love and gratitude, red carnations which signify admiration and ger bera daisies which represent cheerfulness.

Valentine’s Day:

Your flower selection will depend on your rela tionship with the recipient. If the relationship has just begun then try lavender roses which signify enchantment. Whereas if you are happily married but they’re not into roses, then you can’t go wrong with a bouquet of tulips which communi cate love. Avoid yellow roses and carnations for your significant other as they signify friendship and disappointment, respectively.

SNAP FITNESS WINDAROO – FOR THE FEELING!

Something new is coming to Windaroo! nap Fitness is opening an exciting new state of the art gym this April. But what distinguishes them from other gyms and fitness centres in the area besides being the new kid on the block, is that they focus on how exercise makes you feel rather than how it makes you look; because when you feel great the results will follow.

Run by manager Andrew, the new Snap Fitness Gym are on a mission to help people create positive lifestyle habits that make them feel fantastic.

“We're a friendly, encouraging team that's all about 'you can do this,' not 'you have to push harder'” explained Ben from Snap Fitness, “We'll help you start small, support every step and reward you along the way. Whether you've just completed a personal training session inside the gym or a leisurely walk outside, any fitness is valid fitness at Snap Windaroo.”

When are you expected to open? Were there any delays/complications?

At the moment we are pushing to be open by the end of April. We will be doing our best to fast track the open as soon as possible however we are in the hands of others with regards to the reconstruction of the shopping centre. As most people are aware, we were due to open midway through 2021, however, the fire that devastated Windaroo Village stopped those plans.

So, after experiencing a fire, flood and pandemic we think we have seen it all now! Strangely our journey so far kind of speaks to who we are as a business and how we will be reminding our members that a setback is just an opportunity for a comeback. In life, you have to pick yourself back up, dust yourself off and push forward.

Why Windaroo?

My business partner and I looked into a lot of areas around South East Queensland and Windaroo just felt right. I previously lived in Mount Warren Park managing one of the neighbouring Snap Fitness clubs and enjoyed the wider community engagement. It feels like there is a genuine opportunity to provide a world-class health and fitness facility to not only Windaroo but the surrounding suburbs.

After the fire, we saw how the community pulled together and wanted to help those that needed it. The local "Village" connection is what it's all about for us and something we want to stay true to. Oh, and I love golf so Windaroo Lakes being up the road didn't hurt.

Who should visit Snap Fitness Windaroo and how do they join?

If you are over 14 years old then Snap Fitness is for you! We offer the most open, inclusive,

empathetic, supportive fitness experience to every member at every level - from absolute beginners to more confident workout regulars. Joining is easy, you can call our phone number, see me at our pop-up stand, join online via our website, or scan the QR code to register your details and we will be in touch with you. There are no messy forms, just fast and efficient digital sign-ups.

Its also the best time to join as our VIP foundation membership sale is on right now and there will never be a cheaper time to join. We have removed the joining fee so once an access card is purchased, you're all set to go!

What services do you offer and what can people look forward to when they engage in your services?

Our gym will be fitted out with state-of-theart Technogym machines who are the official equipment partners of the last 6 Olympic games. Without question the best fitness equipment on the market! In addition, our main gym floor will have coach-led small group training classes like HIIT, Functional, Boxing and stretch/mobility that are included in the membership. All members have 25/7 access to the gym and can gain access to over 230 Snap Fitness clubs around Australia.

Other features like Myzone Heart Rate Monitoring Screens and scheduled 6-8 Week Fitness Challenges and Boot camps throughout the year are added services offered by Snap Fitness Windaroo. Furthermore, we have a designated childing minding room for the little ones filled with lots of goodies to keep them entertained. Creche hours will be based on demand by the members.

Personal Trainers are also available to members for those one and one sessions. If you are a Personal Trainer, we would love to hear from you... the more the merrier!

AFTER FIVE YEARS, ARTS IN THE OLIVES IS BACK!

Considered by many to have been the Scenic Rim’s most popular arts event, BADCAP is proud to announce that, after a break of five years, ARTS IN THE OLIVES is back! It’s still in the Scenic Rim, one of the Lonely Planet’s top destinations in the world, but it’s just changed olives groves which takes it from south of Beaudesert to east of Kalbar.

2008 saw the first Arts in the Olives take place at Worendo Grove in the Lost World. BADCAP (Beaudesert and District Community Arts Project Assn. Inc) had a wild idea to host an International Sculpture Symposium in Beaudesert and extra funds were required. The event was so successful it ended up running for ten years.

As many people have missed Arts in the Olives so much, there has been a lot of pressure to recreate this special arts event and it is with much pleasure that BADCAP, in conjunction with the Olive View Estate, will bring you 2022 Arts in the Olives.

So much will be the same – arts workshops and demonstrations, artisan stalls, a day and night music program, free children’s workshops and Arts in the Olives’ very own art gallery, but some thing new will be the sustainability and lifestyle sessions.

Arts in the Olives is moving from one side of the Scenic Rim to the other. Olive View Estate at Kalgun is the 2022 venue. Olive View Estate is at 58 Kulgun Road, Kulgun which is a few kilometres from Kalbar on the western side of the Scenic Rim and only an hour from Brisbane.

The other major change will see the activities being held over two full days with entertainment being a highlight as the sun sets over the ranges on the Saturday night. The Scenic Rim Regional Council has also chosen Arts in the Olives to be the venue for its second Arts Dinner of the year which will feature inspirational talks by practi

tioners sharing their journeys and explaining how their art connects to community.

Another first for Arts in the Olives is that there will be an option to camp overnight – either BYO tent or rent-a-tent!

The ever-popular Food Trucks featuring international gourmet food, using as much locally-grown produce as possible, will be another reason not to miss this highly anticipated event.

With all the workshops to choose from, it’s guar anteed there is going to be something to appeal to everyone. Participating in a workshop in the mid dle of an olive grove in the Scenic Rim, one of the most picturesque spots in the world, surrounded by other creative people, will again be the year’s highlight for many.

Among the many workshops are blacksmithing, mask making, limestone sculpture, mosaics, felting, bamboo flute making, weaving, stitching, indigenous art, metalsmithing, eco-dyeing, pottery, jewellery and pizza making. To see the complete list go to www.badcap.org

And to all the mothers, who have been treated to an outing to the Lost World for Mothers’ Day in the past, they will be pleased to hear that Mothers’ Day weekend has been chosen again. The dates to diarise are Saturday 7 May and Sunday 8 May.

Brochures with the full exciting program are now available, and as workshops always fill quickly, it is recommended that everyone books online just as soon as they can. A discounted price for entrance tickets will also be available online with one or two day passes available. (Workshop participants do not pay an entrance fee.)

Brochures are now available at the Libraries, Cultural Centres, coffee shops, Visitor Information Centres or from Kalico Country in Brisbane Street Beaudesert. Details are also available online www.badcap.org

HAS COME TO BEENLEIGH!

Hairdresser, Karl is leading a new hair evolution in Beenleigh, focused on im proving the hair health of Logan locals.

In December, 2021, Karl opened his salon on George St in the heart of Beenleigh; working to provide the best service to locals.

“I want to give my customers confidence by styling their hair”, stated Karl, local hairdresser and owner of Hair by Karl.

As a Korean hairdresser with over 20 years’ experience, Karl specialises in all forms of hair styling, for both men and women. The salon provides a range of services including hair cutting, blow drying, colouring and perming.

Karl takes great care with every one of his customers and understands the differences in

people’s hair, customising his service to ensure they get the best results.

“In particular, I have prepared 2 types of colouring products for Aussie and Asian hair, as Europeans and Asians have completely dif ferent hair pigments”, stated Karl, “But the most important thing is not to perform excessive chemical procedures that increase hair dam age. In principle, chemical procedures should be performed within the range of self-damage care.”

Unlike other hairdressers, Karl wants to emphasize the importance of root volume and direction when styling, which is quite a crucial factor in determining a person's image. That's why he is performing root volume and correc tion perms.

For more information about Hair By Karl and their services, call Karl on 0413 112 930 or visit their Facebook page https://www. facebook.com/hairbykarl.

A new evolution towards improved health for hair

Whether you’re preparing for a special occasion or simply want to treat yourself with at a new, beautiful hairstyle, Karl can help you look and feel your best. We offer a wide range services such as hair cuts for male and females, wave perms, colouring and styling.

Creativity at Bethania

All children are naturally creative and curious, and thrive when given the opportunity to cultivate their creativity. Here at Bethania Lutheran School, we nurture curiosity from the moment they walk through our doors until the day they graduate, providing them with the tools they need to wonder, question and design creative ideas.

Learning Culture

Bethania Lutheran School is proud to have a solid, inclusive learning culture, where every child’s uniqueness is appreciated.

Student engagement is a major focus, with our teachers designing learning experiences to get our students excited, motivated and thinking creatively, capturing their interest as they meaningfully explore real world problems.

We have high standards for our students to achieve their personal best and to challenge

themselves to grow and progress both academically and emotionally.

BLS are developing self directed, creative thinkers, problem solvers and independent learners, encouraging our students to take risks in a safe environment.

‘An essential aspect of creativity is not being afraid to fail,’ Dr Edwikn Land.

Learning Spaces

The culture of a Learning Space, also has it’s hand in creating creative students, in creating the long-term memories for our students.

Agile and outdoor Learning Spaces allow for flexibility in the classroom layout to suit students preferred learning style. Students develop an awareness of their own learning style and are trusted to make choices about how they learn best.

The learning culture at BLS together with our flexible learning spaces, provide students the opportunity to think deeply, and creatively.

Call for a personalised tour of our state of the art contemporary learning facilities and experience Bethania for yourself.

IMPORTANCE OF EARLY CHILDHOOD LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT

Achild’s early years are the foundation for their future development, providing a strong base for lifelong learning and learning abilities, including cognitive and social development. Babies are born ready to learn, with around 90 percent of brain development occurring in the first five years of life.

Vision and hearing pathways develop first, followed by early language skills and higher cognitive functions. A child's vocabulary often quadruples between ages two and four. These connections become more complex over time as children grow, and influence brain devel opment to create positive learning behaviours from an early age.

Research shows that children who participate in quality preschool programs are more likely to arrive at school equipped with social, cognitive, and emotional skills. Higher levels of education al success, employment and social skills have all been linked to moderate levels of participa tion in quality early childhood education. There are a large variety of early learning centres available to Logan parents.

Kaleidoscope Kids Early Learning Centres follows the Early Years Learning Framework to extend and enrich children’s learning from birth to five years and through to school. They combine routine and spontaneous activities to provide a varied and exciting curriculum for children.

While at Springwood Community Kindergarten, it is more focused on play inspires learning. For 45 years, their experienced Early Childhood

teachers have delivered engaging programs that balance play, learning and school readi ness in a supportive environment.

Whereas Amana Family Day Care is an ap proved form of child care that is provided in the Educator's own home. The home-based setting provides a familiar and safe learning environ ment. Family daycare can offer care during standard hours, evenings, before/after school, during school holidays and in some cases overnight and weekends.

But what should parents do if they notice their child is not meeting those important mile stones? Eli’s Place is here to help. Eli's Place works closely with families to provide support, strategies and education to build long term skills and results in the form of Occupational Therapy.

Occupational Therapy enables people to com plete the activities that they find meaningful. For children this might look like playing, sleeping, feeding themselves, learning, regulating them selves and becoming more independent in all activities of daily living.

Occasionally children need a little extra assistance with their work and that is where 10/10 Tutoring services come in. Working with children from kindergarten to Grade 12 and at times on into adulthood to help them develop positive attitudes, skills and strategies required in becoming a lifelong learners for the fast-changing world.

CELEBRATING LOGAN’S PETS!

Pets come in all different shapes and sizes; from dogs and cats to birds, fish and reptiles. There is a pet out there for everyone! With National Pets Day on the 11th of April, we come together to celebrate our pets. Although if you are a pet owner, you know there’s not a day that goes by that you don’t celebrate your animal companion!

On National Pets Day, it’s an opportunity to lavish their pets with the adoration and care they deserve (well, more than on any other day). Taking them out for a walk or a drive, buying their favourite treats, or getting them a new toy to play with from local pet stores like Comfy Critters in Loganlea or Little Wardy’s Pet and Aquarium in Slack Creek, are just some of the ways that pets are spoiled just a little extra on this day.

Treat your pet to an experience. You can’t go past Pooch Avenue in Slacks Creek, Queensland’s first luxury, 5-star Dog Grooming Salon, Day Spa, Day Care and Boutique or Puppercuts, a professional dog grooming salon

in Shailer Park. If doing it yourself is more your style, get all your grooming supplies from DGS Imports.

Are you looking for some time away? Brooke’s Inspired Pet Services has got you covered for everything from Pet Sitting, Mobile Grooming, Pet Photography and much more! If you are a bird owner, Brisbane Bird Minding in Rochedale South is the place to go. Catering for short- and long-term stays, personalised care and attention in a home away from home environment.

Are you looking for an exciting place where your family pet can interact and socialise in a safe and stimulating environment? Then Canine Cubby - Activity Centre for Dogs in Loganholme is perfect! They also offer Aquatic Rehabilitation Therapy, which is great for dogs recovering from several injuries, degenerative conditions and those who are overweight.

Ensure your pet is living its best life at the Daisy Hill Veterinary Clinic. A local family-owned and operated vet that has been in the area for over 30 years.

But the day is not all about them, why not gift yourself an everlasting memento of your beloved pet with an original hand-painted watercolour pet portrait or gift from Lucy & Coco Pet Portraits & Gifts.

So the question remains, how will you celebrate your pet this National Pets Day?
