o you want to feel happy & energized from the moment you wake up till you fall asleep each night?

Sounds a bit fanciful right, like trying to find that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!

I smile as I write this as I once tried chasing a rainbow through the back streets of Springwood that seemed to land right where I was headed only to be a mirage; but I did end up in ‘Light Street’ which seemed like a fitting synchronicity at that time, and I have dreamt

of standing right underneath a rainbow being showered in all its glorious colours with the pot of golden coins right there alongside me. Ok now that was just a side note now let’s get to the heart of this article.

The truth is happiness is an inside job and studies proves that stress lowers the immune system and happiness increases it! So, saying stress less, think positively doesn’t help if you’re feeling stuck in overwhelm and you don’t know how to change it but what I can tell you is this, it is possible and it is our personal responsibility to shift from these lower vibrations into higher vibrational feel-good practices/habits to create our own inner peace and happiness!

I want to share with you some very simple, fun, feel good ideas that I practice & incorporate into my daily schedule to help elevate your life making it lighter, brighter and happier from day 1- guaranteed!

HOW TO RAISE YOUR VIBRATION? Before you reach for your phone in the morning (apart from the alarm) try letting your feet touch the ground, take some deep breaths in & out and notice how you feel in your body, breath into the parts that call for your attention, what is it trying to tell you (this is ‘conscious’ embodiment), greet your partner/pet, have a drink of water, warm drink.. *Your phone will still be

there when you get to it however it’s imperative to give yourself this ‘you/self-reflective time’ before the day begins.

Eat fresh, live & colourful foods. (Think in terms of the colours of the rainbow to get the optimum amount of nutrients, antioxidants to charge-up your immune system).

Get amongst nature whenever possible, walk through the bush, let your bare feet connect mother earth as she can neutralize the ions and magnetic field in and around your body.

(Cleanse and strengthen).

Say no when you mean no (respect your boundaries, you are important).

I hope you can incorporate some of these practices into your daily life because I promise if you do, you will feel and radiate more happiness and discover the positive flow-on effect this has on not only you but all those around you!

STORM SUPPORT FOR THOUSANDS Help hub scaling down as month milestone reached

C

ommunity support operations at the Queensland Government’s Jimboomba Recovery Hub are drawing to a close, as the City of Logan marks one month since the devastating Christmas Day storm.

More than 2900 visits to the hub – at the Jimboomba Library on Honora Street – have been recorded since its opening in late December.

Visitor numbers have continued to drop in recent days as the school year resumed.

Local residents still in need of general advice, assistance with grant applications, or insurance information are encouraged to visit the hub within the next week.

Logan Local Disaster Management Group chair, Mayor Darren Power, said the recovery hub has played a vital role in returning life to normal for impacted residents.

“The hub has provided important face-to-face support for those seeking financial relief, as

well as being a place to access mental health services and insurance claim information,” Cr Power said.

“In times like these, people want a friendly face and an understanding ear, and we’re very thankful for the support provided from various agencies at the hub over the past few weeks.

“Where possible, Council has also provided direct advice or assistance to storm-impacted residents thanks to information gathered by our dedicated door knocking teams.

“Meanwhile, clean-up works are continuing across hundreds of local streets despite some oppressively hot conditions, with Council staff and contractors sweltering in 41-degree heat on Monday.”

Cr Power said Council staff were also monitoring the development of Tropical Cyclone Kirrily in the state’s north.

At this stage, the system is not expected to

adversely impact the City of Logan, or South East Queensland.

“We wish those communities all the very best in the days ahead.”

“It feels like we’ve had a perfect storm of challenges since Christmas Day, but no matter the weather, Council remains focused on supporting our community,” Cr Power said.

Green and hard waste disposal remains free for storm-impacted residents at Council’s waste and recycling facilities at Browns Plains, Logan Village, Greenbank, Beenleigh and Carbrook.

“While we’ve been pleased to see the threat from Tropical Cyclone Kirrily downgraded for our region in recent days, our message to our communities remains the same.

Residents who cannot attend a waste facility should continue to stack un-mulched green waste neatly on the kerb. Waste mulched on private property can be stored and used on that property without risking the spread of fire ants.

“Throughout our summer storm season, it is important to be prepared for wilder weather, power outages or flash flooding.

“Taking some time to consider the food, medications and supplies your family might need can make all the difference, as well as staying up-to-date via Council’s online Disaster Dashboard.

DOG COOL IN SUMMER

T

he summer heat in Australia can often be extreme, so we need to ensure our furry friends are kept cool and comfortable.

Here’s how you can ensure your dog is safe during the warm summer months.

Summer haircut ‍ Ask your vet whether your dog should be having a summer haircut as not all breeds benefit from a trip to the groomer. Some breeds don’t need to be having any haircuts and doing so will disrupt their natural cooling system.

Others will thrive from a trim or a clip, but make sure you seek advice to ensure it’s the right ‘style’ for your dog's coat type.

Water, water and more water One of the easiest ways to ensure that a dog takes in more fluid is to feed it more wet food during summer. Many dog owners feed a combination of wet (or canned food) and dry biscuits throughout the year but in summer, simply increase the wet and reduce the dry food so that they take in the same amount of nutrients but extra water as well.

Know the signs of heatstroke ‍ Heatstroke can be fatal so it’s important to know the signs and call the vet if you think your dog may be suffering from the condition. Some signs may include:

NEW DEPOT ON THE WAY Works start at new Jimboomba depot

C

onstruction has started on the first stage of a new multi-purpose depot at Jimboomba.

The Logan City Council facility will include a workshop, storage shed and a large space for community use.

The six-hectare site, between Abell Rd and the Mt Lindesay Hwy, has long-term potential to support a range of Council operations as further stages are developed.

Mayor Darren Power said the new depot would respond to the needs of the growing southwestern parts of the City of Logan.

“There is no doubt our city’s growth is happening between Jimboomba and Park Ridge, including the surrounding suburbs of Yarrabilba, Flagstone, Logan Reserve and Greenbank,” Councillor Power said.

“It makes sense to provide space for essential Council services where they will be needed to support our community in the future.”

Division 9 Councillor Scott Bannan said he was excited about the site’s potential.

“We’ll start to see savings in both time and money for ratepayers as the depot develops,” Cr Bannan said.

“The community space in the first stage is a win for local organisations who work so hard to make life better in our area.”

The project received $3.5 million in funding from the Queensland Government’s South East Queensland Community Stimulus Program.

State Member for Logan, Linus Power said the community will greatly benefit from this new multi-purpose depot.

“The Logan community is rapidly growing and our government’s investment in this project will ensure we can deliver the jobs and services our community needs,” Mr Power said.

Stage one is due to be completed later this year.

he 2024 Australia Day Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year prove age is no barrier to giving back to your community.

Eighty-three year-old Margaret Harvey and 18-year-old Elahi Elahi were respectively awarded the 2024 Australia Day Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year awards at today’s City of Logan Australia Day celebrations.

Ms Harvey has spent more than 14 years providing support and friendship to residents experiencing homelessness, social isolation and loneliness through the Logan branch of charity organisation Rosies and their ‘Friends on the Street’ program.

Ms Harvey has played a part in several outreach initiatives in Logan, including starting community feeds programs in Logan Central and Beenleigh and setting up an outreach van to provide hot and cold food items, blankets and hygiene packs.

In addition, she also liaises with local businesses for donations of goods, services and funds to support the charity, and trains and rosters more than 60 volunteers.

Mayor Darren Power recognised Ms Harvey’s outstanding contributions at today’s Australia Day celebrations.

“Margaret’s unconditional support and service to those who are experiencing incredibly difficult circumstances makes her a worthy recipient of our 2024 Australia Day Citizen of the Year award,” Cr Power said.

“A longstanding community volunteer, Margaret has given back to countless residents across the city and shaped the Rosies Logan Branch into the community force it is today.

“Margaret and Elahi have shown incredible service and commitment to their community and it is an honour to recognise their outstanding efforts at today’s ceremony.”

A dedicated volunteer since the age of 11, Elahi Elahi was recognised for her extensive volunteer and advocacy work in the community.

The Marsden resident juggled high school and two jobs while volunteering for Hummingbird House, Redkite, and Youth off the Streets.

She was recently appointed as one of four youth leaders to represent Australia internationally at The Y’s Global Youth Advisory Council.

She also represents Woodridge in the Queensland Youth Parliament and serves on the committees of both Youth UN and Make It 16.

The City of Logan’s Australia Day event also welcomed and celebrated around 180 residents who became Australian citizens.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of Australian citizenship ceremonies in Australia.
