Open Day - 150 years of Fernberg The gates of Fernberg - the historic Estate, home to Queensland Governors since 1910 and this year 150 years old - will open to the public on 6 June 2015 for a commemorative Open Day. The original part of Fernberg - which means ‘distant mountain’ in German - was constructed in 1865 by German-born merchant and later Queensland politician Johann Heussler. Since then, Fernberg has undergone a number of significant renovations. The iconic front facade and tower were installed by then-owner John Stevenson in the 1880s.
