A CANDLE OF HOPE
“I cannot explain enough what you have done,” wrote Suleiman from the New Hope Orphanage in Ethiopia. “You protected the candle that is lighting the darkness for the most forgotten of God’s little ones, the orphans and the disabled. We are lighting the candle of hope, and children and adults alike are coming to hear the words of God!”
As QHM Cares—reaching across borders launched, The New Hope Orphanage shared that they were struggling to care for young orphans and disabled children.
Faithful donors like you made it possible to provide immediate nutritional support and health care. You also helped the staff teachers revive and adapt broken down desks to create socially distanced classrooms for kindergarten through 10th-grade students. Students were able to return in September.
Most importantly, you helped them continue Bible studies for the children and people
from the community. In September, ten people were baptized at the New Hope Orphanage and even more are studying for baptism. Praise God!
Their creativity, and your faithful gifts, ensure that the candle that is lighting the darkness will not be snuffed out. “Thank you, again,” exclaimed Suleiman. “ You have taken my heart, the hearts of my family, the hearts of our staff and board, and the hearts of New Hope kids. God is good.”
OUTSIDE THE COMFORT ZONE
Last September, David Wren accepted a call to be the QHM Evangelism Director after spending 32 years in healthcare administration. The seed of his passion for sharing Jesus started on a mission trip. He shares his journey.
You went on a Quiet Hour Mission in 2013 to Cuzco, Peru. It changed your life. How?
Serving as a team member was incredible. I discovered how exhilarating it is to work outside my comfort zone and the importance of flexibility in finding solutions to unexpected challenges. To see people in Peru working hard but content in their simple life was very meaningful. Plus, I came home with lifelong friends who have the same passion for sharing Jesus.
Starting a new job is always exciting. What have you learned so far?
We all live life forward and understand backward. Each experience, good or bad, shapes us. When we look back, it is incredible to see how His purpose for us is revealed. We just have to be patient. My mission to Peru was part of His plan. So is starting this new adventure by joining the QHM team.
You are part of the team that works directly on QHM Cares. What is most exciting about it?
It is exciting to collaborate with the worldwide church and our international partners on grassroots projects to continue sharing Jesus. I am so grateful that people are experiencing His amazing grace safely despite the pandemic. I wish I could share every note of thanks I receive. Your gifts are improving lives, now and for the kingdom.
When this pandemic is over, what do you hope we take away from this experience?
We are seeing that nothing can stop the gospel. God will reveal how we can help Him accomplish His work. This will require unique and creative approaches like QHM Cares—reaching across borders. He is coming soon.

“I am very excited to return to the field,” shares Evangelism Director David Wren, “But until then, we will eagerly wait for that time to come. We are fully prepared with preliminary work completed, and our international partners are eagerly waiting and ready for team members to come work with them!”
