THE JUNIOR LEAGUE COMPETITION.

The matches for the Junior League Cup were playecl off eady this year. For the fu·st time the l~C'otball Association made a real effort to han, the matches so arrangec, that they could all be plllyed during Term. Unfortm1alely, there was never a sufficient number of geom1ds on which to play the tlu·ee or four ljlatchc:i which were fixed for one aftel'· noon. As a result, :the efforts of the Assodatiou were not altogether successful, the matches were seld.om played on the dates originalJy fi~E-rl, while the holidays ac

ASTO~ F.C. v. Q.C.F.C.-Draw, nil-nil. Ina bility of our forwards lO score at close range very marked. Ewing-Chow ,a nd Rohoman threw away easy chances.

Q.C.F.C. v. ARTILLERY S.C.-Draw, nil-nil. Putrid forward play again responsible for result. Robinson's goal-keeping excellent.

Q.C.F.C. v. Y.M.C.A.-Won, 3- nil. BoUers scored the first goal for the School. Rohoman iii. and Donald scored the other two. :Mr. Berry stood down in this match.

Q.C.F.C. v. B.G.F.C.-Defeated. nil--,2. Field very muddy. Robinson s urpassed himself in goal, and was r esponsible for the narrow ma~·gin oy which we were defeate d. [The B.G. eventually headed our section and met in the fina l the V.F.C. to whom they lost. ] Q.C.F.C. v. G.F.C.-Won, 1-nil. Donald scored towards the end of a very poor game. We played without both Mr. Berry and Vyfhuls.

Y.M.C.A. v. Q .C.F.C.-Won, nil-6. Outplayed our opponents who were a poor lot. Score might have been taller h a d the forward-line combined better. Bollers scored two of lhe goals and played a fine game.

Donald a lso scored two and Harewood scored one. The other was scored by the Captain of the other s ide who put the ball Joto his own nets with a shot which no goal-keeper could have saved.

B . G. F. C. v. Q. C.F.C .-Draw, 1-1. The B . G. scored early and h eld t heir lead until late in .the game when a penalty was awarded in our favour. Harewood (i.) was entrusted with th e kick and easily fooled Mittelholzer. The r esu1lt of this match was a great surprise to us .

Robinson and Donald excellent. Hr.rewood (ii.) , Alexander an d Casey were among the team .

G.F.C. v. Q.C.F . C.-Lost, 6-2. Score s.erves as a true indication cf tll P play of our full backs. Casey was not at home on the smooth ground a ncl tackled too half-heartedly. Robinson never to blame, for all the goals sc.ored frbm 'get-aways.' When they had •4 goal; to nil, Lawrence and Donald r educed the lead by two. Dias, however, took advantage of our attacking game and scored two more goals.

The batting of the t eam as a wl1 0Ic showed considerable huproYemen t in spite of the danger· ous pi tch and out-field on which the teHm was accustomed to practise. There were, however, two really l1au faults : a tendency t o go for t11e bowling without worrying to play quietly at first and hopelessly bad running between t he wiclc~ts.

But in· the matter of running between the wickets, all that is necessar y is practice. A system could easily lie arranged in which about tlvo en· t11ree afternoons per week are r!eYotec"!i entirely to this section of the game. T11e practices could be made quito inter esting, ,.and the Cricket Captain should give tltis his serious attention.

The bowling was not as goocl as the batting, but it was steady and was_ never once punished during the season. We were sadly in need of a fa.si bowler , for although W ebber's pace and fli gllt liad improved.

J1i1,; bowlhtg could by no stretch of imagination be callecl fast, and he tired m ther quickly anc"!J after two over s became meclium. Vyfhuis not orJy tired quickly but was erratic.

Donald gave up fast bowling in orrler to e.-:periment. F ernandes w:is only medium and Ying only found. out that he could bowl a medium t o fast ball towarcls the end of the season. Smith was easi· ly the best of the meclium bowlers.
