An Exhibition Focusing on Experimental works by Young Artists

A Collateral event of Lahore Biennale

02

The exhibition will be on display from 29th January till 5th February, 2020.

CURATOR’S NOTE Space, as one of the momentous elements of art, suggests the distance between two components; it varies from one point to another and creates an illusion for its viewer. Artists in both the past and present have been working around the idea of ‘’Space’’ whether it is in arrangement of artwork itself or the extent to which it is going to be displayed. This single element plays the most vital role in the success of an artwork. The new drift of biennale, triennials, and environmental and public art installations is built on the core idea of understanding space and creating a context around it. Ejaz Art Gallery holds one the finest art display spaces in Lahore, enabling artists to think in wider viewpoints while changing their art practice to be seen in the space within a space. Artists were invited to visit the gallery before hand to understand its architecture and confine their area of interest to expand their art practice within that given space. I would like to quote, the idea of space in a beautifully articulated paragraph by renowned American art curator and critic Robert Storr: “Space is the medium in which ideas are visually phrased. Installation is both, presentation and commentary; documentation and interpretation. Galleries are paragraphs, the walls and formal subdivisions of the floors are sentences, clusters of works are clauses, and individual works, in varying degrees, operate as nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and often as more than one of these functions according to their context.” The exhibition looks forward to explore the pace of each artist’s approach towards phenomenon of Space. Participating artist are thoughtfully selected on the basis of their resolved work language and context. The investigative nature and diversity in their mediums represents the new era of Pakistani Art with a great hope for future. Last but not least I would like to thank Ejaz Art Gallery for providing us with immense support and a great platform for young artist to showcase their artworks.
